    I am being proactive just by studying this theme. Be proactive is still new for me, I am not so proactive, but I am studying and putting in practice every time I see a chance. My mind changed completely since I decided to change my approach at work. Now I see more opportunities in everything, is awesome.

      +Gabriella Souza do Couto it is great to hear that your life has improved with this concept. I also practice proactive habits and my days are very productive. Have you read the book "7 habits of highly effective people" by Stephen R Covey? One of the books chapters is all about being proactive.

    I needed this video on such a rainy day. I’ve felt like crud all day, especially when I’m a self destructive critic. I’m far more reactive than proactive. All I’ll leave is that unless I don’t enjoy sticking with the reactive traits and negativities that associate with that, the time to change is now!

    Thanks for this video. How I wish I had seen it four years ago and realised just how reactive I was. I was looking to buy my first home and went to view a dream property. For weeks afterwards, I looked at the pictures on the internet, but didn't arrange another viewing or contact the agent to make an offer or make any progress with a mortgage application. I spent time wondering how much I should offer and imagined myself living in the house, but for some reason, made no effort to pursue it. I guess I was stupidly waiting to see what would happen. Goodness knows what I was expecting, but looking back over my life, that's how I seem to have been for as long as I can remember. Watching the video was the kick up the backside that I really needed. If the house had still been on the market when I watched this then I would have contacted the estate agent to make an offer straight away!
    I'm now homeless and still looking to buy somewhere. I was surprised at the time I became homeless, but if I had a proactive attitude, I would have realised that there was a strong possibility that I would be in the position I am in and would have made more effort with the 'dream' home (or any other property that I had the chance to buy. I'm ashamed of myself when I think about some of the excuses I made not to pursue those either). I remember my colleagues asking if I was going to try to buy it and I would respond by saying 'I don't know, I'm still thinking about it'. However, I continued to 'see what each day would bring' without making any long-term plans. I can relate to the sentence in this video that says 'the problem with reactive people is that they show up to life unprepared and deal with things as they come'.
    Since the covid pandemic, there aren't many homes to choose from and the ones that are available are so expensive. I'm going to end up spending more than I would have done on the 'dream' home, but the one that I buy will be nowhere near as nice, which is really upsetting.
    Having watched this video, I've realised how I've spent my life just 'waiting' for whatever would happen next. I've been in the same job in my company for 14 years (I have applied for promotion a couple of times, but have been turned down, probably because of my 'reactive' attitude'). The difference in the current values of the 'dream' home and the house I'm buying is about 5 times the average salary (I earn the average salary), so my reactive mindset has been very expensive financially and will affect me for the rest of my life.
    I hope my story will help someone else who has a reactive mindset to realise the consequences of it.

    I’ve struggled with the long term goal setting of a proactive person. Keeping myself motivated to write down what I should be doing on a daily basis, it feels like I keep doing things later and later. Makes me feel absolutely miserable if I get a job because it pays enough to keep me afloat for the next few months.

    I enjoyed this and shared these ideas w/ my students :-) Thx for making it! Only thing I would like to point out is that even tho the video has dark and lighted skinned people... when referring to 'not wanting to become a slave'... the drawing shows a dark skinned person in chains...then then very next point was of a strong muscular white man who was empowered... a representation of someone enslaved can be shown in a different way but still get the point across.. ie.. just showing chains? w/out pointing out skin color. All my students are of color & I"m trying to get them to be proactive and not focus on social/historical stigma to pull them down & let them know that you do hold the power.... Anyway.. since you obviously understand the difference between offering helpful/constructive info vs. negativecriticism... I figured I can point this out and you would understand. :-) Greatly appreciate how you tease out the ideas... very helpful Keep up the great work! Have a super day!

    My superiors at work always describe me as proactive. And as i watch this video, i guess i really am. But let me tell you there are cons on being proactive, personally it affects me mentally. Im too afraid to fail, which is inevitable, i feel so guilty when i lose a little time, i get easily depressed when things do not work the way they should be and blames myself whether i didnt prepared well enough. However one thing that i learned all through this shit is that, giving your 100% is always better than being perfect.

    Good video but one thing I'd like to note is Proactive and Reactive people gets affected by their environment. Thats why so many great people succeed only when they left those environment because its a trap! Escaping your current surroundings doesn't give you success by any means but it has a great effect on your life.

    just a heads up, I am using voice text and it likes to get drunk on me LOL so I am sorry for the typos. Anyway, I love this video. Around the 4 minute mark it talks about choosing whether to be proactive or not by working out or relaxing. In my opinion both can be considered proactive depending on the situation. For me, if I work out after a long day when I am already physically and mentally exhausted sometimes working out will help the other times relaxing and getting my rest is the best choice. For example I could push myself to workout even though I am exhausted but I am not going to get the best work out if I feel weak and tired. Of course anything helps, butt sometimes it's better to know when your body is telling you it needs rest versus pushing it. I look at how it will affect me the next day. For one, if I exercise late at night it will make me wired even though I am tired. That's when I can decide whether I am being proactive by exercising or by resting so that I can get a good night's sleep for the next day. Depending on the day, taking action or not taking action can be proactive. My problem is listening to what my body is telling me as well as my mind. It's great to be proactive in the common meaning but at the same time being too proactive can cause physical and mental burnout. My husband is always on the go and I admire him for that but sometimes it annoys me that he doesn't know when to stop because then he gets exhausted from his obsession with go go go. And guess who has to deal with a grumpy husband from being exhausted? Me! lol People need to learn not to feel guilty by taking care of one of the most important things which is rest and self-care. Both the body and mind need rest. In the United States many people have what they call hurry sickness. They always feel pressured to stay busy which can momentarily create good results but if you don't know when to hit pause all that hard work you did will go to waste because you will suffer from burnout. We've all been there but the worst feeling is getting to that point where you lose your desire to continue and it turns into days and weeks because you decided to dive in Too Deep. I know I am getting technical and kind of getting away from the main idea of this video but something in me had to share this. Life is about balance and sometimes it is okay to put the near future on hold momentarily (as in tomorrow) get your rest now, take it easy and then continue. even if that means kicking back and watching cat videos on UA-cam. you have to fit in some leisure time even if it involves doing stupid stuff. take care of the little kid inside of you. If you burn yourself out there is no point because there is a risk of losing all that you had worked for. The times when you wake up one day and whatever you were working on doesn't sound good anymore. It's like driving somewhere a few hours away being focused on getting there and not considering that you need to stop and get gas. If you don't get gas, your car will run out of gas. Then there is a whole new problem to deal with.
    I love the whole concept of this video but at the same time there needs to be balance. if you are going to pull an all-nighter to study you may risk sleeping through your alarm or being so drowsy during your exam that you don't do as well. I think that's where it's important to analyze your goals ahead of time and planning how to make things happen and adding a little more time to give yourself some wiggle room. Things come up. Whenever I write my to do list for the day, something that will take me an hour, I will add on an extra 15 minutes for all the times I have to stop and do something for my five year old. that's why so many of us write our to-do lists and then feel guilty because we didn't create a list with deadlines in a realistic way. I will write my to-do list for the day to get XYZ done not considering the fact that realistically this list would take a few days instead of just one day. I've learned that getting too technical with my to-do lists is creating The Perfect Storm with overwhelm. When I write a list, I go by the KISS acronym, which means "keep it simple, stupid!" 😂 I will write down three things, complete them and then I can go back and fine-tune things. For example I can write "clean the kitchen, do all the laundry and vacuum the whole downstairs on my to do list." I will clean the kitchen and realize the hours have passed because I was focusing on every nook and cranny. I used to do that to myself but now when I clean the kitchen, I do a quick tidying up and move on to the next thing. I need to go for progress and not perfection. at the end of the day things look better as a whole and then I can go back and do all the nook and cranny stuff. so if someone were to stop by oh, my house would look tidy instead of me feeling embarrassed that everything is so cluttered but my kitchen is spotless and clean enough to eat off the floor, lol. that was me just vomiting my thoughts and forgive me for all the typos as I am using voice text.
    Be realistic, take care of your rest and create some wiggle room. focus on the most important things from a bird's-eye view. it's about progress and not perfection. So yes getting stuff done is considered being proactive, but also scheduling some time for rest and even time to kick back and watch junk TV. have your own happy hour and do whatever you want without feeling guilty. but if you let days and hours pass staying busy with things that won't things that won't help you achieve your main goal, that's where you have to re-evaluate. Forgive yourself, ask yourself what you learned about yourself, and evaluate the areas that will pull you away for longer than you anticipate. One of my biggest culprits is taking a break and checking Facebook. I look up and so much time has passed and I had nothing to show for it because I got stuck in the Facebook black hole. Be mindful about your body, your mind, and timing.

      This is a longest comment that I have ever received. Thank you for your time :) Well. Of course there can be some relax time during your day and in fact it should be there. I have relaxing time blocks throughout my daily structure as well, but if I feel great I will do some work. I can't wait when I will have finished my Time management app so I can share it with everybody :)
      Take care and all the best. ;)

      Eileen Fuentes, wow this is one long comment. Probably the longest I have read as a first comment. 😄
      You’re totally right though. I guess a mix is good, but at same time being a bit more proactive than reactive. And keeping it all in balance with how our body and mind responds.

    I'm a proactive person who is married to a reactive person. This explains why we have so many arguments. I'm always trying to plan ahead and he wants to "talk about it tomorrow". I like to research and he feels like he learned about it a long time ago and doesn't need to revisit or gain new insight into anything. Its frustrating. Can reactive people change their way for the better?

    • @ProductivityGuy-
      @ProductivityGuy-  4 роки тому

      Of course reactive person can change and become more proactive, but the thing is that person needs to be willing to do that.
      If you try to directly change another person then it's not likely to work. it might even make it worse.
      Instead of trying to change other person I think it's important to work on yourself so that you can stay strong and focussed on things that you want to achieve.

    From life circumstances... now that i left my parents house i try to deal with it and it feels sooooo much to deal with.. years of neglaction.
    What can i do to be more proactive about it?

    Great video. So from what I've gathered you can be both however you should strive by using this tips to be proactive. You can be reactive different ways at different times however even if your a proactive person... Correct? The all or nothing approach and title sort of threw me off but great video.

    Thank you. Will you please do a video on how to stop revealing your private thoughts and secrets to people you have just met? I am struggling with this for many years. Help!

    • @lindseyr82
      @lindseyr82 4 роки тому

      Hey Becky! I used to do this, so I'm hoping this helps. I would reveal my insecurities right off the bat because of my fears of that person judging me when I wasn't there (or later finding out). It was a defense mechanism for me. How I curtail this is through mediation to instill confidence in myself and letting go of my past. I started out with guided meditation on yt (search S.O.A.R meditation to help label your thoughts and release emotions/thought that do not serve you). Meditation allows me to reach an even baseline when I have so much going on with work, parenting/etc. I practice it daily. Love to you💜❤️
