havent read Being Mortal, but I loved reading Checklist Manifesto by Atul Gawande, MD I liked Gifted Hand by Ben Carson, MD too! There's also this book "How to become a straight A student" by Cal Newport. It's more inclined to college life, but it helped me change my study techniques in med school. Great video! :)
I have been enjoying your videos. You have truly inspired me to pursue a career in medicine. I am a highschooler preparing for a neuroscience competition named Brain Bee. The questions from the competition are derived from lengthy neuroscience textbooks. Can you please explain some effecient but effective study strategies I can implement when studying from these textbooks. Thank You!
Hey Ronit! I’m honored that you have found me and my videos inspiring! And that competition sounds amazing! It can be challenging (at least for me) to use textbooks to study from, but I would try to focus on chapter summaries/key points if the book provides those, so you don’t get bogged down with minutia. If the books don’t have those, you can skim the chapters, and write out topics that you want to follow up on that we’re a bit confusing when you first skimmed them. And then search those topics on UA-cam. I feel like for me it’s more effective to watch a video explanation on things than to try and read it. I hope this helps and good luck!!
