?! In the Book, Paul is described as Slim. He's Supposed to be small. Chris Pratt, a big guy, once wisely stated in an interview that in real life, it is rarely the big guy in real martial arts tournaments who actually win. The winners are usually the wiry, quick, agile guys on the smaller side. And Timothee' & Zendaya are brilliant, award-winning actors who are Perfect for these roles. They are more than just "popular." & much time has elapsed in the film. We can tell by Jessica's pregnancy advancement and by the fact that Paul's own eyes have turned blue that several months have gone by.
Jessica's pregnancy was not even showing at the end of the first DUNE installment from Denis and Jessica herself tells Paul back then that she had barely just found out she is pregnant- meaning she is probably just a couple of weeks along in her pregnancy. It was brilliant time-jump writing to show Jessica's huge pregnant belly and to focus on Paul's Blue, Blue eyes when he looks through binoculars - to establish that several months have gone by.
Paul's & Chani's relationship is built relatively slowly and is believable. My husband and I were impressed with both actors brilliantly encapsulating their shy, awkward, warm budding realization of their feelings for one another. When Paul chooses his Fremen name and Everyone there gets up to hug him, Chani is almost reluctant to because her feelings for him are coming to the fore. When they hug, their near embarrassment over their budding feelings and the warmth that they engender is palpable and real. Zendaya, particularly, is amazing here.
Later, when Chani is showing Paul how to sand walk, they literally beautifully dance in sync with one another. It is a practical exercise that is somehow all the more romantic for its crucial aspect. Later still, when Chani is showing Paul how a wind machine works, his admiration and affection show in the gentle expression on his face as he gazes at her instead of focusing on how the equipment functions. Chani, finally realizing that, smiles and gently tells Paul, "Don't look at me like that." He smiles wanly in return.
Much later still, while they sit on a dune and watch the gorgeous desert panorama in front of them, and after they converse about features of each others' home world, their kiss seems organic and inevitable.
And much, much, much later still, when they lovingly whisper in the dark their devotion to each other after having just been in the throes of passion, that is believable, too.
And later, when Chani tenderly comforts Paul after one of his nightmares, we learn that those have even become rarer since they have gotten close and have expressed their love for one another.
Again, My husband and I felt the warmth emanating from the screen when these two great actors, good friends who care for each other in real life, brought the heat as these characters. When Paul tells Chani that he will, "Love you as long as I breathe," he means it and we believe it. And the books bear that out. Their love story lasts for more than 5000 years!

I was with you until your point on Timothée. I'm so not a Timothée Chalamet Fan, before dune I only watched call me by your name, but I strongly disagree with your point. I think his 'Juvenile', 'youthful' almost a little precious or a little weak (That doesn't make him feminine) is absolutely perfect for this role, for the contrast, his strong will and mind and desire that go through without having to rely on muscles or a deep voice, to not be a stereotypical 'man' and have people bending to their knees and still listening to his every words. It's like in the final scene, you don't believe he can make it and fight, but he does, because for exactly that reason, you don't see him coming, you don't except him to win, to kill, and he does because you don't focus on his incredible mental strenght that do more than muscle even in a 1vs1 combat, if the other use only his body. And his acting was absolutely insane. There is a lot of part, where there is no talking, and his capability of deliver emotions were so good. I think the cast was perfect for the vision of the director.

I agree with you on the relationship with Chani though, I also think it's normal for Paul to be in love because he saw her in his dreams for so long, but it does feel a little rush when they kiss, but I think since so many things happen in the movie, so much plot and events to go through, there is some time skipping, probably days weeks maybe months of them together that we only see glimpse of. And I think there is a little miss here on their romance.

All these points are about the character Paul not the actor Timothee. My point was I believe it wasn’t the best casting. Paul brought the people to their knees Paul won in 1v1 combat. Timothees job as is to portray Paul to the best of his ability. I think he did that but for me I think that there’s better actors for this role of Paul that would be more believable and/or a better fit for the role. Also I never used the word “feminine” I said “non masculine “which what I meant by that was, it wasn’t enough masculine. In this movie Paul becomes an absolute beast of a character where I wouldn’t describe timothee as a beast or a strong leader. I just don’t think he portrayed Paul’s arc that well in this movie. The “youthful, juvenile, and or a little weak” worked for the first movie but not for this one because this is a different movie with a bigger character arc.

@@thewarofthemoviesThe two movies are literally from ONE book. There is not a lot of "time" between the two movies timeline wise. Paul Atreides is literally described in the book as: "having a small build, with black hair, "an oval face", "long lashes", "thin nose", and a strong bone structure." Your take on the casting is a little off, especially about Timothee.

@@yew2oob954 I love movies not books. Im a dummy I don’t read lol. My perspective comes from my love from movies, and the arc of Paul’s character in part 2 is very drastic and the character decays into being hungry for power and is out for revenge. I would’ve love to see someone with stronger features. Also small build doesn’t mean non muscular. If Timothee added some that would be preferable from my perspective. To me it just doesn’t fit and throws me off. But that’s small compared to my want for him to be more aggressive, intense, and assertive/stern. A better casting/performance would’ve made the movie that much better.

@@thewarofthemovies You are missing the fact that Dune 2 takes place IMMEDIATELY after Dune 1...so there is no time for the character to get muscular by the second movie. He's not a mutant superhero...he can't be like "Atreides Angry" and turn into the Hulk.

sorry but nothing comes close to the cult of the Matrix... seems like we're LIVING THROUGH both sagas, but the internet revolutionized the world (not to mention UA-cam)...

The matrix is iconic but the way this movie is put together is nearly perfect
