Put Melanie in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame posthumously! It's an unbelievable shame that she wasn't inducted in her lifetime. Such a generational icon. RIP beautiful soul! Cheers\=/\=/
For all who never connected with Melanie or her music it will be difficult to understand the significance of her passing, we continue to loose the good one, while the alternative survive sadly this weakens our values, experience, and expectations, she was and is one of the special people who frequent our planet and surrounds bestowing quality, understanding, and exceptance, thank you MELANIE FOR THE GOOD TIMES ❤
I'll never forget that afternoon, I was listening to dj bill Compton as he said "this singer is very popular in Europe but not very popular here at home but take a listen , I think you'll like her " in a few days she had become one of my favorites and still is . I wish like everything I could have met her in person . I did meet her daughter
I loved Melanie. Part of me dies with her. Goodbye, Melanie. I thought it was so cool when you replied to one of my comments on UA-cam. I'm really going to miss you, but thank you so much for your beautiful music. Farewell, beautiful person. You were so full of love.
Melanie is the artist that I enjoy the most for many years. I always discover something new in her music, never boring. Her beauty is stunning, I love her so much. Her music gives me peace of mind like when I listen to Bach for example. There are not many examples in music where an artist impresses so much with just the guitar and the voice as Melanie is. Not only the music is at a high level, but also the lyrics that can move you. Thank you Melanie for bringing so much joy into my life.
There was a metal worker in town who made beautiful bells out of large discarded metal. He died recently and someone he knew asked me how I was doing. And thinking of this great song just said "I'm still Ringing the Living Bell"!! Thank you dear Melanie.,
Gosh i heard this song yesterday for the first time and it's like an earworm in my head I've played it over and over Such a sweet and clear voice I'm so impressed
+Bradley Preuss commented on the original upload: "I appreciate what you do. You may not remember, but I saw you perform at a Border's bookstore the day after my father passed away in July 1999. I went back to my parent's house after he passed and sat at the kitchen table vegging out while reading the newspaper. I came across a small advertisement that you were performing the next evening only an hour away. I got there over an hour early, reveled in your performance and then waited over an hour afterwards to get your signature on the album he played for me when I was a child. I practiced in my head what I was going to say to you but it came out as a blubbering mess, yet somehow you managed to understand me, as you signed my copy of Candles in the Rain "In Remembrance of Arthur." The album is now hanging on my wall in the entranceway of my house, for all to see. There may not be Jesus, Buddha, Yahweh, or any number of conventional dieties out there, but seeing you perform made me believe there's something out there. Thanks."
Love the live version of this song a bit more than the studio version. Hearing you sing this live in concert was something I'll never forget. The way you ended the song and blared out the final Ring the Living Bell gave us all goosebumps it would reverb throughout the auditorium. Love you Melanie, but I think you know that by now. : )
Just beautiful. I've always loved this song since i first heard it back in 1981. I have to admit that watching this made me feel very emotional. Thanks for your great music. Stay well.

Ya know, when I was a young boy I loved Melanie's songs. I am 60 years old now, and I love them even more. Re-discovering her greatness is a beautiful thing. I hope the younger generations get to appreciate her works, also. They are as relevant today as ever.
Played the 45 of this over 200 times in the first month. Must have played this song over 1000 times since. Some people around me must have tired from hearing it. Can't figure out why.
Ms. Safka, I absolutely love this song, and got to this song by way of Brand New Key. This song absolutely encouraged me to write again, play music again and this is a song I'd love to give a passionate cover for. Thank you for putting this song out into the world. 🙌🏿

This was the very first song from Melanie I heard over the radio at 7:20 pm while I was doing math homework at 7th grade. For a month, every night after 7:20 pm, I listened to her until suddenly the station switched. Thank you Melanie. You were a part of a wonderful and special year of my life! Rest In Peace? No! Sing! Loudly! Where you're at! Soon I'll be there! Love you, girl! James
Melanie is not only a tremendously gifted performer, she is a Guiding Spirit for many of the Boomer Generation who wrestled with issues of Authority, Compromise, and true Sharing. She remains a positive example/role model for us. We are truly Blessed that she is with us, as we navigate our fragile lifetime.
I had no idea she passed my heart cries. She was my Faucet her picture was everywhere. Her music a dedication to what we should be Bitter Bad helped me through dark days her voice of a angel I'll always listen to her
This is the very best live version of Ring the Living Bell ever recorded aside from Live at Carnegie Hall which was Melanie's best live recording. Peter brilliantly spliced versions of Ring the Living Bell from both nights performances making the Carnegie Hall recording exceptional and outstanding. Peter is the Angel watching over Melanie and Beau. Peter was and will always be Melanie's biggest and greatest fan driving Melanie to supreme excellence on every level. Missing you Peter.
So funny I was just considering to rent a cottage for a 15 day-fast, asked the universe for a sign, then I bumped into this, LOL. My record was a 10 days fast, I had the urge to eat the table corner and the bed linen in the end, it was not fun at all.... :-P

I had just ended 23 days of fasting at a health farm (under the guidance of health guru Dr Bernard Jensen) on nothing but water for three weeks and had to be persuaded to start eating again. I thought I was seeing God... "No Melanie, you are dying, you need to eat" was his response, so I did... Does this help explain my references to eating and drinking? I had experienced both a physical and spiritual purification and wanted to share this with the world~ ring the bell, shine the light, express the conviction, the intuition, that there's more to life than just the material, and that giving and caring for our fellow human beings is the key to meaning. Kindness, above all kindness. Thank you for asking! Love, Melanie

Melanie sang a song down from heaven ..not sure we heard it.
The ultimate hippie chick
Wrong. She was not a hippie, in her own words an "oddball ".
That was great.
Been celebrating 'way too long
An' I've been drinkin', I'm ashamed to tell
Still feel thirsty
God I want to drink the water from the well
Still feel thirsty
God I want to drink and ring the living bell
Ring the bell, ah
Ring the living bell
Still feel thirsty
God, I want to give and ring the living bell
I'm not a magic lady
But I want to sing to help the light
Descend on the earth today
Because it's gonna get dark tonight
Sing the light, ah
Sing the living light
Still feel weak, but God,
I want to give and shine the living light
Still feel weak, but God,
I want to give and shine the living light
Been walking down the street all night
An' I been feeling kinda cold
Still feel naked
God I want to be warm before I get old and I'm cold
Ah, an' I'm feeling cold
Still feel hungry
God I want to give and ring the living bell
Still feel hungry
God I want to live and ring the living bell
Been celebrating 'way too long 'n' I have eaten much too well
Still feel hungry
God I want to give and ring the living bell
Ring the bell, ah
Ring the living bell
Still feel hungry
God I want to give and ring the living bell
Still feel hungry
God I want to give and ring the living bell
Still feel hungry
God I want to give and ring the living bell
Ring the living bell
Ring the living bell, ring the living bell
Shine the living light
Ring the living bell
Ring the living bell
Shine the living light
Shine the living light
Ring the living bell
Ring the living bell
The lyrics show a pain that I can appreciate.

Most people would have took offence at that anorexia remark justified to as well, shows what a wonderful attitude you must have
