The best thing about this video is that offscreen, Vinnk's wife or child got to throw something at him for the effect Sean was going for. What a wonderful gag.
I've been using one of those Wii U stands in my bathroom for phones and (with a little padding) my iPad for so long, I'd completely forgotten what it was originally for. I'd kind of half-remembered it as being for the 3DS, but now I'm remembering the Kid Icarus stand is totally different. Actually... the Kid Icarus stand is pretty similar to this, just without the bottom plate!
Regarding the DK console ports, there was a DK Original Edition NES game released for the Wii Virtual Console in Europe, and as a Club Nintendo member exclusive for the 3DS Virtual Console. It basically just adds back in the cement factory level from the original arcade game, which was absent from the '83 port. And in case you're wondering, the game rom's been extracted and uploaded, but I found that when I play it on real hardware, the cement pies in the second level would flicker if there were too many of them on-screen.
Awesome find! This is why we like putting stuff like this out there, because there’s always someone who knows where the gaps are. That’s so cool to know! Thank you.
Ooh, I have this stand! It's handy for holding my iPhone too - which doesn't even have a kickstand! They probably expect you to use your hands or something, ridiculous. Wonderful video, this format is always Famicom Dojo at its finest. :D
Also: my first thought for a good game for this is Pinball Arcade, it has a vertical mode which basically fills the whole screen with the pinball table :)
Great Video as always. My Highlight is when Vink gets hit 😂😉 The Hori stand is great. Bought it back in the day when the Switch was released. Take it with me on every vacation ❤️
We’re glad we picked the right brand, then! There were other options, which we thought maybe we would compare and contrast, but HORI seemed like a very safe bet.
We do have a video video where we repaired the Switch Lite, but it’s a live stream, and we haven’t edited it down into a more digestible format yet: ua-cam.com/users/livepW4S3pPvO7o
First nice review about the stand but... Actually been looking for a TOP 10, 25 or 50 top best Arcade Archives to buy on the Switch. Just notice these games about a week or so (Well I had Metal Slug in my wishlist for a long time but didn't notice there were part of a big arcade collection ported to the Switch) and apparently are supose to be like the Arcades, I started playing in the N64 era, so sure I am wondering if Arcades Archives are faithful to the original games. For now I got a few in my wishlist - Mostly Nintendo and SNK, Pac-Man and with a very few Nancom & Konami Games I knew thanks to Smash Bros. and well some I knew, heard or played back in the day.
Just these three have shown to be extremely faithful - so much so that running them requires putting in “coins” (mapped to a button on the switch) just to get them to work! Reviewing all of the many games on Arcade Archives would sure be a challenge, and 50 of them at full retail would be… extremely pricey. Probably less money than one might have spent in arcades back in the day, but still! That reviewer should be handsomely compensated, either way!
@@FamicomDojo I see, I knew it would be kinda hard since I would expect someone play the original Arcade games as well at some point in their life. Even playing mostly of the games reviewing a handful of the Arcade Archives would be very costly. I get now why finding a more general or complete review is so hard since it would be even harder for someone to make.
Thinking about this more, I’m realizing that this has more to do with these games predating your experience, and so it’s almost more fair to say you’re looking to see which of these old arcade games are even worth playing (let alone buying) as opposed to how good the ports are. So at that point it comes down to taste. Even for this video, the three games I decided to demonstrate were due to popularity and personal preference. Donkey Kong was of particular note because it includes a level I didn’t even realize was commonly excluded from console ports. Pac-man I didn’t even realize was originally displayed in a vertical orientation, meaning all console ports have either reprogrammed the mazes accordingly, or found something to fill the space on the sides. (I also didn’t have much to say on it, clearly.) Punch-Out!! is probably the most interesting to me, and immediately stuck out as benefitting from vertical orientations because I remembered seeing the cabinet in arcades as a kid, so there’s a lot of nostalgia there. I also loved the NES versions, and it’s interesting to me that they’re just SO different from each other as games - to the point that Super Punch-Out!! is more arcade-faithful. All that highlights the problem: which games to play or even recommend? Would I play any of these for hours on end? Probably not. And the available Arcade Archives games span such a length of time that there are VERY different games represented. If it were me, I’d make a video about the ones that have very little console port representation, and/or are so different that they’re novel. But, most importantly to me, they have to be worth playing on their own. For my money, the only one out of all of these I’ve mentioned so far is Punch-Out!! By a KO. 😂
It depends on the game, and whether the developers worked it in! There are dozens of these games now. I’m not sure if the feature is listed on the Nintendo website or not.
I have the Hori stand too. I never use it. It's not very good. A much better stand is a Biogenik Travel Stand. Its made of metal and can adjust to any angle you want. I use it with my Switch, Vita, 3DS, even phone. Heck you can use it to hold up even a GameGear. When not in use, it folds flat. I didn't pay any more than $10 for it. Highly recommend you get one for as long as GameStop still exists. Edit: One of the key advantages of the Biogenik Travel Stand is that you can route the power cable through a hole in the back of the stand under it, which allows a more neat set up.

That "vinnk getting hit with the joycon replacement kit in Japan" bit was pretty great. 10 stars!
A wonderful addition he thought of after seeing the first draft!
I give the fans what they want.

Great to see a new video

Oh. I've seen one of those. I wish I had something like that for not only my Switch, but phone in Landscape Mode.
Same! And you’d be able to charge it or plug in headphones easily if it’s an iPhone to boot.

I’m gonna get one of these for the Cave shooter ports I’ve been buying.
DO IT…!
short and sweet
Hey, good feedback is good feedback.
I found my switch flip stand thing after being lost for 2 years.
Well, we’re very happy we could be a source of motivation!
Looks like a good design even if it is just a hunk of plastic
No complaints so far!
I tweaked about wanting to repair that switch controller... Vinnk won't do it

Got my Mario Version of this stand. I also use it for my phone sometimes ^^
I shouldn’t be surprised they made a Mario version! 😂
Do all the Arcade Archive games have the ability to change to a vertical orientation?
I want to get Galaga if so!

Seems like that’s worth checking out! The HORI brand loyalty was perhaps too strong…
Flip grips are a lot better
Hmm, maybe. Can I charge the Switch at the same time?
@@FamicomDojo don't think so but you can play comfortably in bed
I had this stand for awhile and in time the part that the switch sits on will start falling off and never hold the weight of the switch
Ohhhh, that’s a bummer! So far so good for us, but we’ve one used it a few times so far.
