We LOVE Time Team, esp. the original decades -- wish it could have gone on forever as it was, but I'm glad that it's still with us, despite the loss of very much loved archaeologists -- so happy to get to see Helen Geake and Stewart Ainsworth, John Gater, Carenza Lewis and Matt, and other veterans of the first wonderful T T series. I am also happy to see new, updated technology, which surely must make life easier for all! Everyone worked very hard on that series. I hope they're pleased to know that they've been watched, and greatly enjoyed, by people around the world, Bravo to you all!
I found Time Team a few years ago on UA-cam. I watched all of the episodes, yes, all 20 seasons of them. Then the new Time Team came out and I'm so glad to see as many of the originals back together again.
Loving the new episodes! Big thank you to the Patreon members! I'm a disabled veteran pensioner, and sadly I cannot afford to donate - but wanted to shout out a big THANKS to all involved, as through your support I am able to enjoy these episodes also.
This one moved me at the end. I'm not from the UK and I came to these through UA-cam but I have fallen in love with the whole team. This show really has been one of the best "reality" programs ever, imo. The reason is that, from what I can see, the whole team makes a genuine effort to show the real process. The thought, study, expertise and care that archaeologists practice in their daily jobs. It's kind of moving when I think about it. An honest picture of the lives of the peoples who lived there starts to emerge by the end. The whole team should take great pride in making exciting and genuinely educational content.
I have always loved how this show gave us real people doing their jobs. Various experts coming together with a common goal and any "drama" was usually by way of nature, context of the finds and professional discourse and the occasional struggle to reach consensus. American television could not handle this format...
I feel that Mick is always with them in spirit ...how proud he would have been to see off his mockers ...and have the proof of his work bearing fruit over 30 years later...yes he is always missed😁⚒
We still have the original episodes airing in Canada, Thankful the new ones are on youtube. It's well done, I like it, but It's kind of oddly like Time Team on valium without Tony and Phil taking the piss out of each other constantly. lol. EDIT: I finally was able to watch it all the way through. It's different, but really good. Great to see so much of Helen, she's so wonderful!
That doll of Mick is a nice touch to remind us of the one who started it all... I've watched all 20 years of the original and I love that they've brought it back!... Cheers to all from Saratoga Springs NY!
How wonderful to have a new episode. I have rewatched the old series over and over. I am in America and first found Time Team during the first Covid isolation. I miss the old team but appreciate the new team and they are growing in adding some of the camerodity of the old team which made it so loved. GO TIME TEAM! Well done. Nice to see that a previous excavation has new discoveries.❤❤❤
My story and opinions about the show are identical to yours. I wonder how many thousands of us in the States, let alone in the world at large, first discovered this treasure during lockdown and became fans for life.
Really enjoyed this. One of the pleasures is seeing the young archaeologists from the original series who are now the seasoned pros with decades of experience to draw on as they interpret new finds. The camaraderie of the original TT was always a draw and this has that same feeling.
This has to be THE BESTTime Team episodes of the renewed Time Team series. All the members of this new Time Team are incredibly gifted. Happy I’m a Patriot member!
Timeteam the greatest archaeological programs on any platform, thank you so much for getting me through tough times, and helping me to continue to love history.
I think this is one of my favorite episodes, which is saying a lot. Well done to all and especially to Tom, the metal detectorist who helped bring this very special woman, and site, to us. Thank you one and all of the exploratory pit volunteers and washers and, and, and! Cheers from Minnesota
emotional triubte at the end expresses well that all these efforts are humane, are aimed at better appreciation of humans who lived before us, and we honor them by learning more about them.
We're so lucky to get more Time Teams, and even longer episodes! It's nice to see Helen all excited about Anglo Saxon bling. Looking forward to seeing what you guys dig up next!
I was ready to cringe a little at the thought of the song - how wrong I was, the hair on the back of my arms stood up. Lovely to think of her buried surrounded by foxgloves and other flowers, and that she might have been a healer. What a cracking dig.
I saw some people were concerned about Paul Blinkhorn's health in the chat during this video's premiere. Well, Paul was on twitter a couple of hours before the premiere was posted on youtube, so I gather he is well!
Oh my god - so good to see Paul again!!! Please bring him back always. - So cool to focus on a previous find by Helen for a modern episode. Great subject matter. It's too bad Time Team doesn't have the money to bring in top-fill that would give a buffer depth of soil to protect the rest of the area for future plowing. Certainly there are plenty of other areas in Britain with loads of good topsoil that could be brought over. it would broth preserve for future digs, and probably give the farmer better yields.
In regards to the difficulty of relocating the original excavation - I did archaeology in central California for almost 20 years, and it was our standard practice to put in some readily identifiable and relocatable “artifacts” before re-filling the excavation, for example, an aluminum soft-drink can at each corner of a unit. This would make it easier to determine later where our units had been, if we dug at the site later, and alert future archaeologists to the fact that this area had been previously disturbed.
I worked as a student on a dig in England in 2002 and they put cans in as well. Both the head guys were trained in America, so maybe they brought this practice with them. Could be that the global industry standard changed over time as well.
@@Wanda-v4b They also made the howling error of not taking the original GPS reading (GPS!) seriously. Even if a GPS reading has error bars on it, the recorded coordinates were at the centra of that uncertainty distribution so the best place to start! But the mistake was serendipitous; if they had concentrated on Our Lady's grave they wouldn't have found anything as interesting as the other trenches revealed.
A large enameled street sign also works well - but why was such an important site NOT protected by English Heritage? It is generally draconian (and also elitist).
How nice a new time team.I've been a fan since the beginning.I've seen all the episodes I think 10 times. And how nice it is that old members are participating again. When I'm sick at home I soon watch an episode of time team
It was very nice of someone to make Mick. He memory is still wi us! Thank you for revisiting this site to explore it again and learn more about the history of this time.
Helen is an absolute legend ❤ I miss Tony though; new guy is very nice but can’t touch him…also miss Mick, Phil & ‘Corinna in GeoPhys’ - landscape of my childhood xxx
Yep. New guy sounds like he's reading off a script. Tony always sounded like I would if I were suddenly discovering long-buried archaeology. Bring Tony back! PS. Y'can't have Tony without Phil Harding. ;)
Virtually all of Continental Europe is equally rich - I'm an expat American historian of Decorative Arts with 50 years of experience, & own a 17th century farm in rural France. Important antiques, antiquities & archaeology are quite literally everywhere. Very sadly, sites of national or international importance go unprotected, usually due to corruption.
i just ran across this today and what a wonderful treat to see familiar faces as well as new ones! I had been watching some of the old programs that I never missed and saw this one-Excellent job and looking forward to seeing more and love the enthusiasm among the team! Keep up the great work!
Completely love being able to see so many of the Time Team alum!! I do very much like the new crew - but every time one of the 'old timers' come on - I yell "YES!!" Particularly love that Paul Blinkhorn is here - always liked him and am just so grateful to be following him on social media. Also - Jacqui - Naomi - Stewart - John - Matt - Carenza - Sam - and of course HELEN!!! Life is good.
This is the first time I see anybody mentioning him. I'm sure he's over the moon reading your comment. Finally he got the recognition he always deserved but could not have.
Was a little unsure at the start of this episode with the new style and faces but the history and intrigue that makes time team special is still there and is great to see some of the original cast as well ,awesome dig as always
Wow, love the high-tech ways they view finds. They can have a detailed group review of the finds without having to touch them, just the initial scan/pics of the find. Cool!
The Time Team historians are overwhelmingly responsible for my career in history and heritage - it's so meaningful to see such beautiful new histories being elucidated with new technology. To absent friends - Mick and Victor in particular 🍻
12:06 - XRF analysis is one of the most under-used tools available - it analyzes elements to less than .5 percent accuracy, & works on glass, stone, ceramics, metals, painted surfaces, textiles, etc. UK assay offices are NOT expensive - prior to the suicidal stupidity of "Brexit", I went to Sheffield with as many as 10 copper alloy antiques per year. US institutions charge insane sums - $250 or more per test. The French Ministry of Culture refuses to underwrite the cost of even ONE hand-held unit for major museums.
The jewellery of ancient times absolutely fascinates me (as a young goldsmith and designer). I just finished an intricate 9ct gold bangle that took about 4 days to make. I adapted the design specifically to avoid soldering wherever possible as even with precision blowtorches and gold and solder alloys that are precisely made up and relatively predictable in their behavior, I still prefer to avoid creating multiple solder joints (everyone has something in the trade that gives them more trouble than anything else and soldering is one of mine). How a craftsman could create something so precise and so delicate with such limited resources makes an already exquisite piece of jewelry absolutely awe inspiring
Absolute magic. Watching ancient communities brought back to life, piece by piece, with time to reflect on their meaning, by these talented people never ceases to utterly absorbing. Proud to be a contributor!
If there is anyone here interested in Anglo Saxon Britain who has not seen Michael Wood's "In Search of the Dark Ages" series then I strongly advise you to seek it out (a few copies here on YT I believe). If you need persuading, then none other than Paul Blinkhorn (TT's original "pot-monkey", in this episode) cited that Michael Wood series as the thing that inspired him to become an archaeologist. Paul also worked with Wood on later (excellent) programmes. I would also unhesitatingly nominate Wood's "In Search of the Trojan War" as the greatest archaeology-inspired TV investigation ever - happy to see some alternatives suggested!
Watched original TT from the start after High School 15 and now 52 ...what a team and always fascinated...sincere thanks to those gone and missed and those who hold the baton now....love the Mick doll....his spirit I bet is on every dig.... Gday Matt....you were ALWAYS such a good sport for the 'trials' u were put through over the years.....even as a roman slave u still could smile lol....great to see you still diggin'
I love how they have a plushie of prof Mick Aston and they even feature it here in this video/episode!! This episode made me very emotional because I have been watching their episodes since I discover Time Team here in UA-cam and watching the other OG staffs that are still in Time Team and now they aged makes me happy. I love you Time Team! May your program soar high and last forever. Thank you so much for all the insights that I have learned in each of your episodes. I miss the banter of Tony and Phil.

Just found this channel and I’m over the moon!! I used to love the old series and I can’t wait to watch all the new episodes and some of the old ones too. It’s good to see some of the original team members here too, especially Helen.
I have been a long time fan. I have enjoyed any research into Anglo -Saxon history. Dr. Helen Geeke will always be my favorite historian and expert on that subject. She is still very beautiful.
great to see TT back again. incredibly informative and a big thank you to the team. There isn't enough archaeology out there and we savour every moment....
I can only agree with most comments here. Your series has always been enormously interesting and all of the members of the team with all their character features makes it a great team indeed (at least from afare): funny, caring and of course serious, especially in the older episodes which I mainly know. I would immediately start scraping layer upon layer of soil away with you in dry or muddy pits. Yes, even in the rain. :-) Thanks for your work! PS: regarding new technologies: the animated digital terrain model in the end was quite nice to see (says a landscape planner)
With the holidays fast upon us I took a moment remembering of Christmas past. The importance of family and friends, and how time team has brought us together. A time when families would place a Victorian tree as the centrepiece in the middle of the room, carefully decorating it with small bags containing everything from popcorn balls to chocolates and candy fruits, etc. On Christmas Eve, we would gather with family and friends, and during the festivities, you would wear a blindfold, circle the tree, and pick your treats. Along with some gag gifts, nothing too bad, but someone always got a bag of coal-a couple of BBQ briquettes wrapped up. Which usually means you had to do the dishes afterwards. These are fun times filled with laughter as a way of bringing people together before the celebrations of Christmas. Have a wonderful Merry Christmas and Happy New year everyone.
As time and funds allow, going back to revisit some older TT digs like this with the newer technology and information available is great! Plus please have Sam on every Anglo Saxon dig! His song reminded me of when I had to memorize and perform the first 14 lines of Chaucer's Canterbury Tales in front of my 10th grade english class in 1983. HAH!

The original Time Team was AWESOME! I'm glad to see it going in one form or another.
What is Phil up to these days? Is he fully retired from digging?
Loving the new episodes!
Big thank you to the Patreon members! I'm a disabled veteran pensioner, and sadly I cannot afford to donate - but wanted to shout out a big THANKS to all involved, as through your support I am able to enjoy these episodes also.
Matt was always such a good sport in the old series. Nice to see him come into his own as a grown up archaeologist!
And Tony .
I remember when he had to portray a Roman soldier or a laybrother for a day. That was really interesting.
This one moved me at the end. I'm not from the UK and I came to these through UA-cam but I have fallen in love with the whole team. I have to say that the plushie in the excavator moved me the most. But other then that I am fully of OP's opinion!
It’s always so good to see Paul Blinkhorn! What a great guy and what a pro!
He has a twitter/X page I'm subbed to.
Love Helen Geake. What a dedicated archaeologist!
Helen is great I’m so glad she stuck around to reboot time team, btw fantastic username GNU Terry… (and cause it’s Time team GNU Mick Aston)
Geake by name, Geek by nature (In a good way)
I love her too 😊
😢😢@@debyaka1:21:32
Her surname suits her.
Anyone noticed the little toy version of Mick shown in the tent the afternoon of the second day? ❤
Made me a bit teary eyed. He’d have been tickled by this dig, too.
Yes, my husband and I both said “awww” at the same time. RIP Mick.
Made me tear up a bit!
I feel that Mick is always with them in spirit ...how proud he would have been to see off his mockers ...and have the proof of his work bearing fruit over 30 years later...yes he is always missed😁⚒
I let out an audible 'Awww!' when I saw it.
Stuart has an amazing capacity to look at large areas, read the landscape and make sense of it. I’m sure he has an in-built Sat Nav. Incredible
Always love seeing Paul and his amazing pottery expertise!
Getting to know the new team. Glad so many of the old team are still here, but especially missing Mick and Phil.
Is ...Phil still with us?
@vermontvermont9292 Yes, but is not digging as far as I've seen. He is professor-ing :)
I miss Tony
Appreciate the return of the music too!
@@vermontvermont9292Phil still pops up on digging for Britain every now and then

My opinion is the opposite. I loved the old crew, especially Tony, but this one just isn't watchable, especially the host.
I love watching Helen. She has such a passion for her work.
Ahhh, lovely Helen Geake! She never seems to age!
As lovely now as she was when the series started!
I was just thinking the very same thing.
Really enjoyed this. One of the pleasures is seeing the young archaeologists from the original series who are now the seasoned pros with decades of experience to draw on as they interpret new finds. The camaraderie of the original TT was always a draw and this has that same feeling.
Love this show as always. Watched so much of these episodes, I now find the answer to most of life's problems is to "put in a trench across it". ;)

Certainly there are plenty of other areas in Britain with loads of good topsoil that could be brought over. it would broth preserve for future digs, and probably give the farmer better yields.
Good idea but who's going to pay for it, don't think it would be easy to do. Doable but not cheap, then you'd have to figure who's going to pay
Two thumbs up! Love the extended format. Great to have Carenza back.
Good to see some of the old time team now grown into there skills, Stewart is always a great asset.

Wonderful finding. I would like to watch your channel more often
It’s great to see Dr Newton back in the Time Team adventure!
As always, another episode that leaves me smiling. Paul and Stewart’s perspectives are fascinating. And Sam’s music - I’m waiting for CD Sam!
42:44 - the loop may not be an addition, but contemporary with the "coin" - the vertical ribbing on the loop is an ancient motif.
Thank you all so very much ❤and especially thank the little girl who sang so sweetly 🙏what a blessing.
Thank you!
Watching from Calgary, Canada

I so loved this one. So many finds!
Superb! Thank you all so much for bringing Time Team back and making such amazing programmes that bring our history to life
As time and funds allow, going back to revisit some older TT digs like this with the newer technology and information available is great! Plus please have Sam on every Anglo Saxon dig! His song reminded me of when I had to memorize and perform the first 14 lines of Chaucer's Canterbury Tales in front of my 10th grade english class in 1983. HAH!
congrats on 200k subs guys beautiful finds ✌the little Mick Aston plushy is adorable! You MUST start selling these to the fans of the show in droves ❤
