Hope you got A: your strength for all that clipping B: two new tables for playing the campaign game C: 100 hours of playing time to get a result I look forward to the full 35 part playthrough series 😉
Having played the game a few times, with a truly excellent germany player the game can be over in just a handful of hours, if the Germans manage to steal Liege from some unfortunate allied positioning
It’s a good game. Very heavy on historical detail, but that comes at a price. There’s a lot to absorb. Follow the advice in the rulebook, play the endgame scenarios first. Get familiar with the mechanics and then delve into opening turns where the unit specific, hex specific, time specific and weather specific rules may not be quite so overwhelming. I’d put it on the 9/10 complexity level when playing the opening turns. Once you get past that the learning curve flattens out considerably. Not for novice gamers.
It's an investment in time, space and money. I played the campaign game once (solo), 1-2 turns at 2-3 hours per evening, sometimes(much) longer depending on the action that turn. Combat, movement and C & C are all good for me and I would recommend it if you're looking for a huge and deep war game. But I would also ask in advance if you don't mind losing yourself in the historic detail that makes all three books so thick and that can be a distraction to the (war) game that you're trying to play. Having a sports game on tv in the background is also a great distraction ;)
Looks outstanding. But i do not have the table space either. Got 4 x 6 ft table in my bedroom which I could add another 2'x4'. barely. thats is it. Until the kids all move the hell out. Great video as always.👍👍👍👍👍
Like to get in with this game, but I have my vacation in July and then their's Christmas. Time for crumpets and a cup of tea while I settle down to a game of checkers...
You're lucky when I'm a third of the way through something that size rule folder I've forgotten what I've already read. I just love getting older...not
I see you also received 2 of the same colored dice. The rules reference rolling 2 different dice and often mention red and white. Not a huge deal since who doesn't have a bucket of dice, but still...
I don't see how it's possible to review and evaluate a game of this size for any sense of historical accuracy and outcome. Are we supposed to believe this campaign game has been playtested through and through 50 times (at least) to see if game outcomes are in scope? Even investigating whether or not this game has been properly vetted would be exhausting! Good unboxing in that I can at least see what I'll never buy. But you are right, there are some players digging into this as evidenced by commentary on BGG. okay, but there is too much fun to be had with other games of what are of sufficient breadth and easier to get into. According to some comments on BGG setup time for the CG can be 8-12 hours or more. Some wise guy on BGG commented that setup is 2 seconds on VASSAL -- well that's great -- why didn't they just release this as a VASSAL game and be done with it then? lol anyway thanks for the effort, good video.
Vassal is the ONLY way that I can fathom that this was play tested. But as you say, the fuill campaign, to completeion, how many times? Maybe there's some network of dedicated monster-game play testers that have been playing this for 20 years+ that I'm not privy to XD
@@ThePlayersAid From reading comments for Mark Simonitch's games on Consimworld, I think the vast majority of his playtesting (maybe all) is with Vassal as well. Makes sense as they can playtest many games at one time with everyone's different schedules and quickly get component changes to their playtesters.
I was never going to buy this game, until CSI did a half off sale for this and I got it for $59. Too cheap to resist. I just hope there are some smaller scenarios in here as I have no room for 5 map sheets.

Now THAT'S a war game...a great big in-your-face monster war game! 😲 "You want the TRUTH!? You can't HANDLE the truth!!" 🤯
This looks more like a life style than a game. No thanks. I'll wait for the movie.
That'd be a cool movie! 😎👍
@@robertmoffitt1336 At least it would be better than that cinematic hoot that was released in the '60s. (Unless Michael Bay is hired to direct).

Nice vid. The game is based on the "Bitter Woods" system which is only a two map game.
Who has the brain and time for these artifacts? When i get to the end of one of these rulebooks i ve already forgotten the beginning....

Ah, but when we were young and full of vim and vigor...*sigh*...
Thanks! Tempted by this one . . .
I'd love to see you guys unbox A World at War and Battle for Normandy. :D
Just half an hour of me sighing and counting play aids, maps, and counter sheets.
@@ThePlayersAid I would totally watch that! LOL! Or should I unbox my copy and film it? :D
@@johnsy4306 Yes, film it and make a parody!
@@ThePlayersAid Hmm....

I think you're saying this is not an introductory game.
Hey by the time you’ve learnt it we might be safe to go to conventions to actually play it ;)
You'll have gone a full cycle into the next great pandemic, however.
The scale is not near!y as daunting as the rule book.
