I have bought several B stocks and demo models. I have no issues with that. I have also bought new guitars that had more visible defects than the B stocks!
I feel this way about Demo as well. I grabbed my first Gibson from SW as a demo. There was a little pickguard wear, but hats off to whoever cleaned it up. I couldn't find any issues in the finish.
I have purchased 2 different LTD guitars listed as B stock and neither of them had any defects. I couldn't find anything that would make them be set as B stock by ESP. Just goes to show you the quality control and expectations by ESP for their products.
I have an ESP Edwards (Japan exclusive) bass. Way better than Performer and Professional II from Fender.
Epiphones that are marked "USED" are factory 3rds. That means structural damage beyond "finish flaws".
My local Mom n Pop guitar shop sells Fender B-stock guitars and basses . I found misplaced bridges that caused the e-strings to be almost off the edge of the fretboard . Buyer beware with Fender B-stock . Some of them have serious issues .
I have had to return only one guitar out of 13, many of mine are "blemished" but like Phil said I could never find an issue. The guitar I returned was mislabeled "blemished" when it was a "scratch & dent" with a huge gouge out of the bottom front edge, was so ugly it had to go back.
Just bought a B stock squier offset telecaster for cheap. I had been eyeing it up, but it was chipped and guitar center originally only took 50 bucks off. Months go by and eventually they lowered it to half price. It sounds great
I have bought plenty of B-stocks and literally most of them are brand new, maybe one or two had a tiny teeny scratch. The best value I got was last year a Taylor 414ce limited edition for $1885 from Musician's Friend, it only had one scratch on the back of the guitar but otherwise it was brand new... it even had the brand new smell. Mind you, the listing on MF had two stock pics so I took a gamble ordering it and it paid off, however since it is a reputable company I wasn't worry if the guitar was trash I would have returned it. I have not seen that price or even close used to this date for the same guitar.
In '77, I bought a '67 ES-335 stamped as a 2nd. I'm not sure why as it was a victim of the '70s natural craze and the previous owner sanded off the sunburst finish and brushed (yes brushed) a clear finish on it. There's a weird gash in the lower horn that looks like some sort of saw attacked it. It's served me well ever since I bought it.
As for return policies, I bought a MIM Strat in '95 from a small, local shop, as I didn't want to deal with GC. Days later, I discovered the Fender Tex-Mex line. I tried to return the guitar, but the dealer didn't want to accept a return and offered to take it back as a trade-in for a Tex-Mex, but gave me a low-ball offer.
I ended up selling the guitar at a loss to a friend and bought a Tex-Mex from GC. Had I bought from GC in the first place, I could have done a return and purchase with little trouble. I've been buying from GC ever since and buy very little from Mom and Pops...
i have a b stock from sweetwater, i defy anybody to find why they marked it Bstock. the blem is so minor its virtually invisible. it is what it is.
I have owned a few no issues. Its usually a little cloudy cloudy spot
I have a Guild dreadnaught acoustic cutaway with a hidden piezo, plug also hidden in the lower strap button. It was stamped “USED” in the back of the headstock by the factory in the same way Gibson stamps their serial numbers deep groved. It’s my number one acoustic, flawless and solid woods on everything. It’s amazing. Got it for about $540 and it plays and sounds better than thousand dollar acoustics.
I bought an Alvarez acoustic off of offer up, and removed the plastic pick holder magazine off the back of the headstock and saw that it has the USED stamped into the back of the headstock. I had to google what it meant to find out it was a blem guitar, but I can’t find the blem.
Always glad to hear an honest retailer’s opinion over those who suffer from impulsive buying habits. 😎🎸
I bought from his store and Phil and his wife were great at selling you the right products and nothing you didn't need.

I recently bought a b-stock Sterling by MM St. Vincent Goldie. The only thing that was wrong with it, was that the previous recipient removed all the tone plastic. I’ll take that 10% discount. 😂
I've just bought 2 'returned' bass guitars - Asian artist brand knockoff's of Fender Precision and Jazz. Supposedly scratches and fret buzz but I can't find any - seller have a full return policy 'for any reason' and I suspect 'buyers remorse' rather than any real problems. So you can do really well from these instruments (less than $400 including shipping for BOTH!!). But I really do like the old style friendly local store for the advice/service and will always buy from them for preference. However they are getting fewer and fewer thanks to the big chains and online shopping.

I've bought blemished hardware from Hipshot and the cosmetic damage is so marginal no one will really notice, and I got nice upgrades for a reasonable price
I don’t consider dents or scratches to be an issue. So if it saves me money, I count that as a win
My first PRS was a damaged in shipping SECU24. Took a hit in the headstock and as a result I purchased it for 150+ off. Looks amazing and plays great and has resulted in my buying several more PRS guitars .
Pretty sure my Core 24 I just got was a B stock. Idk if PRS even does that , but there are multiple sanding flaws, and even one of the jack plate screws is in at an odd angle.
It is a 2017, I purcha sed used, got it for a good price, and it plays great and sounds great. Happy for the cost, but certianly not up to even SE cosmetic standards.
I got a blemished Epiphone Sheraton Pro from Sweetwater about 5 years ago. Most players wouldn’t spot the blemish. It’s on the headstock. Doesn’t affect the playability at all. Truly cosmetic, and I got it for a great price.
I bought a B stock epiphone Les paul on Muscians Friend years ago and the only flaw it had was the B stock stamp on the back of the headstock. I slapped some Seymour Duncans in it and it has been my favorite guitar ever since.
Got a nice deal on a Sterling Cutlass BStock from Sweetwater. There was thw smallest flaw in the paint near the output jack under the clearcoat. No marking on the guitar saying it was sold as b stock.
Or like GC, they literally throw them away, manager’s discretion. there they just don’t want to be taxed on excess inventory, it’s easier just to toss for them, absurd
Thanks this is great. You talking about b stock guitars that dont have to be a b stock just a opportunity for a dealer to cut the prices more than they are allowed by the manufacturer. Thats good for us consumer but more worried about the other way around. Dont know for you in the us but in Europe seen many guitars listed as b stock and in the description the talk about the flaws but they never show pictures of the flaws or the serial number of the b stock guitar. If i then want another not b stock guitar exactly the same how can i be sure they dont sell the b stock to me when i dont have the b stock serial number to check that i dont reseave that. Mostly this is about minor flaws i recon. But i dont want to buy full priced guitar and then not receive that but the b stock much cheaper. Why dont retailer show the serial number of any b stock guitars? Is this legal?
Why didn’t you mention anything about factory refurbished guitars from MIRC? the ones with the “USED” stamp in headstock & brown sticker over the original factory serial. Those are by far the most common guitars you see on the used market being sold as “B Stock” & are a little different story than any of the B-stock, 2nds or Demo guitars you were talking about.
I got a pro ii strat hss in sienna sunburst that's beautiful..a small dent on the neck and one at the back of the bridge that You can't really see.$150 off.this was before the kung flu price increases.
I have two what would be considered B stock. Got them from online stores and neither one had anything that I could find. None. I got a $2500 acoustic for $1800 that is beautiful and a $3500 335 for $2100 that is flawless. Don’t be afraid if the store allows free returns if you aren’t satisfied. I could sell these today and no one could find the flaw.
I was thinking of dealing with a company that does this from Tennessee. I bailed on the idea because of the market is so inundated with overpriced used guitars or just folks that can post to FB, and/or Reverb that can sit there for years.
It's hard to find great deals.

@@LegsON Could it be that the market is pretty saturated? People have already bought a lot of stuff during the pandemic, up until early 2022, and then even more inflation struck, so people are holding on to their cash?
@@nedim_guitar 100% people are holding cash. I'm just saying that it's a buyer's market now, not the seller's.

I have a couple of "Demo's" with blemishes that are un-noticable.
I bought a B Stock Harley Benton Bass around 8 years ago . One of the tuners was really stiff , but still works and actually eased off with some oil and use .
So, pretty much every Gibson Les Paul is 'B' stock?
B-stocks are probably the guitars and basses Fender send to my country. All of them are horrible with tool markings everywhere, shitty nut work, defective paint, and everything.
Switch to drums.
All 70s Gibson's are bee stock that was their worst decade
I am SURE you know the answer to this question: why, why, why do guitar mfgs stuff needless electronics in all their perfectly good acoustics? To a point where you can't get a standard model,,,,,,,a Seagull Maritime comes to mind. Or the GS mini,,,,and MANY Taylor models,,, or the Epiphone Hummingbird. Frustrating. I don't get it.
My favorite guitar is a B stock mim tele. It's because of the little ding by the input jack but it even has a little flame in the neck.
