    Great before and after. And a real good alternative to replacing the dash. With the airbag I wouldn't even attempt to recover one of those dashes. You avoided that issue by saving the original leather over the airbag.
    We will be seeing more and more of this type issues as long as the auto makers continue to use leather on dashes. We have worked on Jeep, Jaguar, Porsche, Ferrari and Mercedes leather dashes. And some just can't be "fixed" but I have learned when to just say NO!
    I haven't seen duct tape used as a seat repair underpatch before but nothing really surprises me anymore. I've seen "repairs" where someone put duct tape over a tear and then dyed it to match the seat , "there I fixed it"!
    Thanks as always for sharing , I know it takes time to make these videos. I hope everyone appreciates your efforts.

      Probably something no one would touch if it was not for the fact that a couple simple repairs could save the face of the dash. So our basic skills make the impossible possible. Thanks Joe.

    ❤ definitely incredible craftsmanship..the issue all us wk2 jeep grand cherokee owners are dealing with is that the material lifts from the dash after replacing. Obviously the original dashboards have shit adhesive...but wouldn't a shrink proof synthetic that is less susceptible to shrinking a better idea? let me know!

    My dashboard on my 2013 60th Anniversary is doing the same thing. It’s not as bad. Is there anyway to avoid this or to stop it from getting worse??

      Leather is a bad choice for dashes. Every manufacturer knows this very well. The next opportunity will be to show replacing leather with vinyl.

    I was hoping to find a way to repair the leather without removing the windshield but i guess not. I may just cut the leather out and install a dash cover

    Great job! How would you keep this from happening to your leather dash?

      Keeping it out of the sun is the only way. A better design, if you wanted leather, would be an easily removable dash shelf. It could be recovered every couple of years. IMO.

    Wow. What a nice job. You turned chicken poop into chicken salad! I have a question...have you done any panel replacements with your sailrite machine? I really want to get one for console skins and door panels, and maybethe occasional panel replacement. Would you recommend the sailrite or something bigger? Thanks for your generously sharing your wisdom. I learn with every video

      I like the Sailrite for center console covers and seat panel replacement. For the occasional use it's fine. It's portable so it stows out of the way when not in use which is important in my limited space and I have also taken it to the jobsite. There are UA-cam reviews in recent years which are all quite favorable too.

    Great job but 1 thing , would not use superglue on leather , it wil get the leather hard and it will break .

    • @a.r.t.srealrepairsforrealc8247
      @a.r.t.srealrepairsforrealc8247  2 роки тому +1

      Often this is very true. Here the leather is already hard and glued down to the plastic and I am using a flexible gel as well. Like you have said, it's good to be discreet in the application of superglues on leather. One of the main criteria is to generally not use any of the thin varieties because they wick up into the leather fibers in too large an area. Thanks for pointing this out.

      @@a.r.t.srealrepairsforrealc8247 So what kind of glue should I use to glue down the leather? Chemoprene? @35:24

    I told my wife I would try to get her leather dash fixed. No one would touch it. Can you help?

    • @a.r.t.srealrepairsforrealc8247
      @a.r.t.srealrepairsforrealc8247  Рік тому +1

      The Texas heat will wreak havoc on any leather dash covering. It's a very bad idea from the manufacturer. I am not sure if I'd want to try it on my car. That's why no one wants to to do it and be responsible for it. One alternative is to remove the leather entirely and clean up the existing plastic dash. Leather looks nice but the dash piece piece should be made easily removable and recoverable so you could do it every year if needed. IMO.
