    "you are probably one of my competitors so please forget everything you just learnt" that's the most sincere phrase I've heard this month. Honestly I have to thank you for your info and your courage to actually take your time and create content that helps-like you said- your competitors. Not everyone helps others knowing that it'll probably make them more bad than good

    The EMD GP40 is a four-axle diesel-electric locomotive that was produced by General Motors Electro-Motive Division (EMD) in the United States and Canada from 1965-1971. It was one of the most successful models of the EMD GP series, with over 1,200 units sold to various railroads around the world.
    The Canadian National Railway (CN) was one of the largest customers of the EMD GP40, with a total of 117 units ordered between 1965 and 1975. These locomotives were used primarily in freight service, hauling everything from grain to coal to automobiles across Canada and the United States.
    The CN GP40s were equipped with EMD's 16-567D3A engine, which produced 3,000 horsepower and allowed the locomotives to reach a top speed of 65 miles per hour. They also featured dynamic brakes, which allowed the locomotives to slow down without relying on their air brakes.
    In the 1990s, as the CN began to modernize its locomotive fleet, many of the GP40s were sold to short-line and regional railroads. However, some are still in service today, either as part of CN's vintage locomotive program or with other owners.

    Question: if I wanted to only do vtubing not via streaming, but only via youtube videos, would I still need a strong graphics card right from the beginning? Or could I do some preliminary videos to test the waters with a Thinkpad? (of course taking upon myself the increased amount of time needed to render the videos etc)

    • @TheInstinctWithinV2
      @TheInstinctWithinV2 8 місяців тому +1

      The graphics card is mainly for ensuring that the model animations run well. You wouldn't want to have your model struggling at 5 FPS while you're just on your internet browser of choice or something. You're going to need decent ram, and CPU as well if you're planning on playing games at the same time. Just for fun videos, it shouldn't be too bad. Test it and upgrade if need be.

    • @retomeili6690
      @retomeili6690 8 місяців тому

      @@TheInstinctWithinV2 Thanks! I started looking for more decent hardware after trying out metahuman on my thinkpad - it works, but it's rather chunky. With a bit of patience I figured I'll get a decent setup for $500 - and if things don't progress as I'm hoping, I can probably sell the gear without too much loss later.

    • @markillus
      @markillus  7 місяців тому

      Yeah they bring up a good point with multitasking while vtubing, it's essentially like running a game, so if you wanted to also play games or watch videos at the same time it can get hardware intensive. If you were recording just a sit down video like some of the ones I have done then it might not be as bad but you'd be limited. And selling the gear if things don't pan out is always a good plan, I actually have the same thing written out from when I started

  • @mellowmartin4334
    @mellowmartin4334 6 місяців тому

    Do you use any editing software? I know OBS does not do editing (or so I have been told), so I am wondering what editing software I can use. I have Filmora, but it blinks when going from one clip to another. I also know that some vtubers use full body models. Let's say you made a full body model, would you still be able to make this video using only the upper half of your model?

    • @markillus
      @markillus  5 місяців тому +1

      I use premiere pro and use it for editing all of my videos, including this one. For your second question, I use a full body model, and you can scale how much of the model shows in vtube studio or choose to scale and adjust while editing, although this can result in a lower resolution image since you're scaling the video instead

    And if u make yt videos / shorts first before u start streaming, what editing app is good and easy? Im a capcut user on my phone (just for little edits) but i saw a lot of edit apps for laptop / pc and they look so complicated 😭

    • @markillus
      @markillus  10 місяців тому +3

      a 13 would work yeah, and for editing, I use premiere pro and there's some good channels out there for editing and showing how to get the basics down as well as speeding up workflow, I recommend Finzar and Sam Woodhall. Capcut can still work for now if you're planning on only doing YT Shorts or TikTok to start out but eventually you'll have to work your way to the more standard softwares

    I've been wanting to get into vtubing because I feel rather self conscious about myself, but do have a rather unique personality. (Not my words btw) I'm also a bit older compared to the vast majority of creators, which is a thing that worries me a bit as you tend to attract a younger audience which can become problematic in todays internet landscape. Money is also a big problem a I'm poor as sh*t. When I think about how and what I want to do, I become hopeful and feel like I can make it. And then I watch a video about becoming a VTuber and my hopes get destroyed. It's a digotomy I need to live with... Or just get of the internet, which is another digotomy when you think about it.

    • @markillus

      I think you'd be surprised by the ages of some vtubers. I'm in my early 20s myself but many of the vtubers that I know of are late 20s, 30s, and I've even met some in their 40s. My audience is around my age, mostly between 18-30. As a creator, my goal is to bring value to my audience, which comes from either trying to entertain them or make them laugh, or providing helpful information- however either of these things can be done at any age, for any age group. Vtubing can be expensive, it can get really expensive really fast. My first model though only cost me 50 bucks, and that was because I paid extra for the photoshop files. There's many free methods out there, and I'm willing to make a video about them at some point, but in the meantime I would suggest trying to find a way around the cost for now and trying things out

    tempting.
    very very tempting.
    very very very very tempting.
    but is it tempting enough to start?
    I could try to fiddle a model together myself. Could be fun. Probably. Maybe.
    At least I already would have a plan what to be.
    But creating content, in general... unsure.
    I am not interesting enough. no doubt about that.

    I have a question about vtubers..
    Does it matter how old they must be?
    Im kinda considering to try this route for fun. I have a design i already have for an avatar (which is based on my vrchat avatar) and an idea for simple content. I wont know if it will get me anywhere but its been itching my brain a bit..
    However I dont think i ever seen a vtuber... WHO IS 30+ LOL...
    Like...i know there are a bunch of 30+ content makers but most of them are video gamers and such. I know this may sound like a dumb question so I apologize..
    Another question I have is the avatar. I so want to use this avatar for vtubing but sadly the original maker of the avatar no longer makes commisions. I have someone thats currently remodeling just for vrchat purposes but since the design didn't stray away from its old model appearance would that mean im breaching a sort of copy right restriction? The avatar at gumroad when i purchased it didnt say anything about copyright law yet its a public avatar in vrchat nonetheless. Would it be better to really deviate the avatar model to avoid this issue (im sort of leaning toward making it look a bit different to avoid any drama)?

    • @markillus
      @markillus  4 місяці тому +1

      i know many that are 30+ and one of my favorites is in her mid 40s, for the second question... it can get a bit weird with this depending on the creator but if it's possible to send them a dm and ask if it would be okay that would be what I would do, otherwise making substantial differences should be fine I would think

    • @snacktimescookies6914
      @snacktimescookies6914 4 місяці тому

      @markillus
      Ah that makes sense to just dm and see their response xmx.
      Thank you kindly.
      I also sub and like! I'm not much of a competitor but it's something I have been thinking lots about!
      I'm also kinda scared because recently I did see a video about CY's reaction with their agency with other vtubers who are forced to "graduate"
      Which I guess that means to quit.
      Is it better to be a free lancer or are their better agencies out there?

    • @markillus
      @markillus  4 місяці тому

      I personally don't like corporations being in creator spaces since it makes it very difficult for indies, they can be a great way to have a guaranteed career in this space for a little while but they're very difficult to get into for most people. You're also somewhat restricted in the things you can say and the content that you can make. Being independent isn't bad but it is difficult, realistically it just puts you on the same path as any other content creator, meaning you'll have to get into making videos and tiktoks as well as streaming and manage it all on your own until you make enough to hire outside help. It's very time consuming at the start but once you have a groove it gets easier

      Yes! So I have a couple videos which explain up to this point really, "Why I Turned Black" is a good starting point and then my recent "Hi, I'm Markillus" gives a slight bit more insight as to why I started in the first place. But yes I am black, the old model was a premade model I found online on a shop, and while I had the rights and permission to change the skin color to it I didn't have the knowledge at the time. And the current model is modeled to be closer to what I want to look like for my content
