I think they're more talking about how it's more of a warehouse than the "mansion" it looks like outside. Generally the appeal to living in a converted warehouse is price and flexibility. This has few if any external windows unlike virtually all warehouses. Nobody who likes the outside would care for the interior and nobody wanting warehouse wants it to look like a normal mansion unless it's a CIA or Blackwater black site. 🤷♂️

As far as zoning is concerned it is a house with an exemption from having public utilities so it is a house powered by generators. I do not think most zoning covers the interior of the home beyond safety unless they have standard of living laws if that state. Code may require a toilet in the home but not a kitchen, if you want the interior of your home to look like an office or bunker that is ok. By the house appearing as a home from the outside I am sure that fell within zoning rules for a house. One can most certainly operate a business from a home as well. Im sure this saved the owner on taxes and property cost over a commercial property and the house meets outward appearances which is all that effects the property values around it.

The only thing I can think to do is use it as like a "business from home" kinda deal but you wanna keep your home and business spaces separate. Or just running a small business. That's the most interesting home I've ever seen. There's no gas line to hook up a stove, but they probably could put in a refrigerator, microwave and maybe a cook top stove that can be plugged up. And perhaps even an air fryer oven. But, these appliances would be useful if they were staying overnight.😂
