Unbound is a multimedia and book project by acclaimed photojournalist Jo-Anne McArthur (We Animals, The Ghosts in Our Machine) and Dr. Keri Cronin (Department of Visual Arts, Brock University). Their goal is to recognize and celebrate women at the forefront of animal advocacy, in both a contemporary and historical context. The project will evolve over a few years, as they meet, photograph and interview inspiring, hard-working women around the globe. They invite you to join them on their journey as they get to know these incredible women and hear about their challenges, the dangers they’ve faced, their triumphs, their sacrifices, their joys.

@French blue8 Definitely, I'm minimizing the harm I cause so taking animals out of that equation is a moral baseline, once you do some good I believe you go past that which the vegan promoters and activists do. My only form of activism is arguing with strangers online every once in a while... the end result is that person becoming a hypocrite or like a psychopath. I'm looking to do some charity work next, need to get shots if you want to work around animals.
We are dependent on the Earth, not the other way around. In our arrogance, we have flagrantly overlooked this. The essential teaching of Veganism is that life is precious it is a philosophy of the utmost reverence for life.

You will need grains antibiotics and whole lot of water and energy to keep those animals alive. You will be contributing to the destruction of what is left of our PLANET. Animal sanctuaries are nothing glorified zoos.

When people perceive their lives as being at one with nature and the planet, their views of society, nationality and race will naturally be transformed. As long as the window of the human heart remains battened closed, no great future lies in store for humanity. People have to throw open the window of the heart. When they do so, there will be no more hindrance to peace.

I pray you are correct that if people knew about the terror and torture of factory farming they couldn’t eat animals. That’s why I became a vegan 30 years ago. But I find most people actively avoid knowing to prevent them any inconvenience

I really, really want to have chickens. But not just any chickens, chickens that got rescued from the egg industry.
I'm still looking forward to that, but my parents don’t want that and we also have no space for them. So when I move out, I will for sure find a place where I can have my own chickens. I don’t even need their eggs, of course not, I just want that they will have a happy life, because they have been in hell...

How can more people start doing this?
Outdoor free-range farms are sadly becoming a thing of the past. Most pigs are in factory farms now and never even know what it's like to be outdoors. That's the reason why when driving across state or country, you may still commonly see cows in fields, but you rarely see any pigs in any fields or anywhere, and never see chickens in any fields or anywhere (chickens have usually always been indoors in coups though). When never seeing pigs or chickens when driving through the countryside, or driving anywhere for that matter, it becomes easy to believe that there are hardly any around anywhere. But, there are in fact many millions of pigs and chickens in just about each state in the U.S. You just can't see them because they are all indoors away from the public eye
It's such a shame that Susie is no longer with Farm Sanctuary.

These animals are so lucky, they are so blessed. I don't think that every meat eater is a cold heartless jerkass (even though some of those types sometimes come on here saying things to stir vegans up), some meat eaters just don't think about what's happening to so many poor animals, they just buy meat from the store or eat some for dinner and think "mmm..this looks good", but that's as far as their minds think on the matter at the time. They're not at the time stopping to think about what's happening to the animals that became that meat. If many of these people took a visit to a sanctuary and saw a happy lamb walking up to them b-a-a-a-a-ing and letting them scratch behind their ears, or saw a friendly pig walking up to them grunting and laying in front of them for a belly scratch, many of them would feel compassion for them. They wouldn't all be like those totally uncaring trolls that come on here hating on the compassionate souls. Some would be unfortunately, but many wouldn't.

It is true that having depression makes a person self absorbed at least in my experience. Animals are know to be theraputic and they have been for this woman. We all want to be loved but sometimes find an other to love helps too be they animals or people.

What happens to the animals when they have passed away from old age? Are the buried or is their body taken to a slaughterhouse after they have taken their last breath ?
They're buried on the farm. They're never slaughtered.
