I found my solution here last year as sim racing wear is rare here in Brazil and karting gear destroys your wallet - Alpinestars motocross gloves and Puma BMW shoes, which were surprisingly cheap, equivalent to 25 and 15 Euros, respectively (yeah, the shoes were cheaper). I used it all the time but laziness made me choose to go only with sport socks, so I use the shoes mostly for karting.
The idea was always to go for cheaper solutions as the PC upgrade and the wheel stand were priorities at the time, and it worked really well for me.

The best thing about wearing gloves and racing shoes for sim racing in Brazil is that during the summer, after an hour you lost about half your weight in sweat, just like the real drivers! Can't beat that immersion

Brasileiros brasileirando. Nunca pensei em tênis pra Sim Racing. Mas essa dos Water Shoes meus pais usam constantemente em viagens. Nunca quis um porque achava ridículo, mas agora... Vou considerar. Já usava luvas por causa do suor.

Hospital socks are great too if you don't want a shoe but your socks are slipping. They have little rubber pads under your foot that grip the pedals very nicely

I'm really glad you made this video. I have always struggled to use the pedals with shoes on, so I always do it with just socks. However, I do find that over prolonged play I start to get painful parts of the bottom of my feet, especially when using the brake pedal.

For shoes, skateboarding shoes work wonders as well.. because they are made with the same purpose - feel the surface (skateboard). Only thing they are missing is the rounded heel part.

Short answer No you don't need gloves. But they are a great way keep a comfortable grip for long sessions and to prolong the look and feel of the handgrips and button faces from wear and tear. Some might think it's silly, But I think it shows we care for our equipment that we have invested so much time and money into.

Also I can recommend climbing gloves. That rough double layer Wildleather gives perfect grip on Alcantara and lasts like forever because .. it is made for climbing. The upper side is thin and breathable. Mine even have a kind of sweatband part on the thumb and there are versions with cutout fingertips, too. You can find proper ones as cheap as 12-15 Euros.

This is a really useful video. I had already discovered the mechanics gloves for my T-300 Alcantara wheel, but I am glad to hear that someone at your level uses them too. In fact I just bought a new pair at my local auto parts place, for $8 Cdn (maybe 6 euros) so I can change them from time to time. The water shoes are a great idea that I would not have thought of. They are readily available in the summertime here in Canada, often at discount stores for very low prices (under $10 Cdn). Thanks for these great tips, and I am now a new subscriber!

I really like people who use their imagination to use items for other purposes than planned.
For gloves, I use fingerless weightlifting gloves, because I need to manipulate the touch screen on my Ipad to trigger some control buttons with Simdashboard, Simhub and Matric

    Awesome video!
I bought a set of water shoes for some beach trips a couple of years ago because I absolutely HAAAATE getting my feet cut up badly by random beach detritis and sea shells that may be out there. They were amazing for that. Unfortunately the ones that I have have a very aggressive, blocky, textured sole on them that makes them terrible for sim racing, and the 2 weeks I used them at the beach absolutely ruined them (they were very, very cheap) anyway. So this makes me feel awesome about buying another pair this year.
I like applying this same logic to the mechanix gloves... not racing sim specific, so absolutely a reasonable use of money! Thanks for the video!

Since i upgraded to a stronger wheel (TS-PC) and i like to run the strongest FFB settings, driving without gloves is not possible for longer races. I get blisters very fast on my hands. Also the grip is better and it feels nice. Also bought Sparco racing shoes but i struggle a bit, feels like im not that sensitive as with socks. Bought rubber covers for my loadcell pedals, so they are not too cold and i still have a nice grip with socks.

From the MX/BMX/DH world are what some call 'race day'. These are full finger gloves but with single ply palms and fingers. Often the hide is also thinner. These two combine for a better 'feel' of the bar and levers for that little bit extra on race day but are not as durable.
What I use is the Troy Lee Desgins Air glove. Often it's easy to find past seasons product on sale.

The first time i tried my wheel, I was surprised by how much my hands were sweating, and getting slippy. So i'm using gloves obviously for grip, but also for preserving the wheel as much as I can. Still driving with socks though, and i might need to wear shoes cause when you miss the pedal and it rips your foot, it can hurt.

I wouldn't really recommend any shoes for logitech pedals as they're very soft on their own, maybe except for the brake pedal, but that's weird logitech's idea. As RC said in the vid, shoes are more of a thing for the higher end pedals, as they're sturdier and with loadcells you can make it require a lot of force to press.
It's about comfort after all, so if your feet don't hurt, there's no point.
