      I'm 50, and I don't relate. You all just came up differently, but I feel what Questlove is speaking about. It's difficult to explain all of it in the comment section. But I live by the code like Quest, but I nor he wrote that code. That code made us who we are today and is a part of our DNA.

    getting old sucks in a lot of ways, things become boring and then there’s your health and politics and kids and jobs and bills. I miss being young when things were fresh and i wasn’t in pain all the time. Old man yelling at clouds I know. The Beastie Boys were so dope and we’re always one of my favorites in the 80’s and 90’s. We’d drive around town cranking that shit we thought we were real cool lol.

    this is just a clip. He does go on to admit that there's a downside to being this way in that you miss out on actual good music or art or the experience of new good music. you're cutting yourself off from that but he's ok with that.

    As a fellow 58 year-old who has fewer responsibilities than both Adam Horowitz and Quest I still get very excited by Music because I am regularly exposed to new music as I regularly go to local gigs still. My response to Questlove about that highly enthusiastic and passionate response to music is not as often because we have an intimate relationship with Music of more decades under our belt than younger generations. There is also the "before the Internet" decades we had as children to young Adults and the chosen music-related subcultures we were part of. It must be acknowledged that "before the Internet" knowledge of the breadth of music was most available to those who spent time and income buying records, attending gigs and concerts, sharing our vinyl, cassettes and cds with friends and myself DJing in Secondary School and all of my University years. All of that time spent means that I can hear a band either that we grew up listening to or were the bands that came up as we did. I have spent three decades here in Belfast encouraging Musicians and DJ's to practice until you can no longer hear your predecessors, unless you want to be a COVER band as there is a local Venue that books those bands.
    I am so ecstatic at the positive aspects of the availability of music online, yet I have lived the downside of that being the "sound of (insert city or community) happens less because there is very little vacuum in an online world and online generations raised with the Internet.
    Thanks for the Music Gentlemen x!

    Timing is what was so important about hip hop in the 80's and 90's. The music was still new and people were innovating constantly. Think of the style of mostly funk-based party rap to Kool Moe Dee to the Beastie Boys to Biggie to Pac to Eminem to Kendrick. What had been done at the time BB came out was so narrow that people were open to experimentation and doing different things. Now there is a formula, follow that and you'll make money but the variety of styles and the admiration of them all is so distilled now simply cause there is not as much to experiment with anymore.

    Nah. I respect the question, but Questlove, Adrock is not of this planet.😂 seriously, I love the dude. He was a rock star back then and now an icon. Once, he was touring with Madonna and headlining Lollapalooza. He can't relate because he was doing the thing and making the magic; it was just life and something he and his boys did for fun. But for us, it was what made life worth living.

      @sjs1555 He is an actor. A phony. The original wanna-be. Nothing ghetto, or real hip hop about him. He's the Chet Hanks of the 80s and 90s.

    • @sjs1555
      @sjs1555 22 години тому

      @@Michael-l9d3o Obviously, you know nothing about the Beastie Boys. The Beastie Boys never claimed to be ghetto, you f-ing dolt. They were 3 Jews from New York who made catchy rap songs. Everyone knew that. They wrote all their songs. They performed all their songs. How is that acting? How is that phony? By your twisted logic, I guess David Lee Roth was a phony rock star because his parents had a lot of money. WTF is wrong with you?

    Now that I’m 50, I love some new music but not all. I’m really, really picky now. I did have a great Brat summer but then I had to go back and listen to Big Audio Dynamite a bunch.

    It just takes more work finding music that surprises…but it’s out there. I’m 59 and I’m still finding music I obsess over; but to be fair, it’s not as visceral and all-consuming as it used to be. I’ve been listening to a lot of The Peacers and Salad Boys last few weeks. But, man, the shit that’s popular is really, really bad. I don’t get the appeal of Taylor Swift, Post Malone, Rihanna, Chappel Roan. That stuff is too soft (for my taste); not enough balls. Not enough surprises. Like Ad Rock says, I’ve heard that stuff 1,000 times.
