I saw The Roots live some time in the 90's in some funky little club in Atlanta. I had a few beers and puffed a few blunts and was ready to take a nap. Then, Brother Question hit that first downbeat on his drum kit and zapped me back to life. It was like voodoo or something. I had no control over my body. Despite being very tired his drumming infused me with a burst of energy that carried through out the entire hour and a half long performance. I could not not stop moving and dancing. And for the entire show, Questolove had his head tilted to the sky, with that huge afro pick in his hair, drumming away. Like he was communing with the gods of drumming. It was surreal. There must have been some primordial rhythmic connection going on. I've never felt anything like it before or since.
7:24 "Celebrity is when your lifestyle sorta supersedes what your talent is" One of the best American quotes of all time. I wish this shit was plastered on Billboards all across Holywood. Fantastic.
I remember a while back, my dad took me to go see The Roots in Orlando at the HoB. It confused me because he wasn't really into hiphop from what I knew(I was 14 or 15 at the time) he likes Metallica, Iron Maiden etc. but Im glad he took me, It put into perspective "real recognize real" for me. Great music is great music & if youre a fan of great music, genres start to blend & become less important than people make them out to be. plus I met Quest at a record store before the show which was dope
I have to be honest, ?uestlove is probably the coolest man on Earth. The Roots are one of the most consistent and groundbreaking acts in hip-hop and it's refreshing to know one of the masterminds behind them is actually so human, yet godlike at the same time.
Artist that haven't heard of the guy are definitely spooked, but if your a artist you do research and I'm sure after some of his interviewee's watch his work afterward, they probably can understand he is one of those real legit 'nerds" who naturally have awkward social skills because learning is the number one goal, and i think most artist can find respect for that in the end, because that takes real courage, and courage is what got big name people where they are.
I think once he started actually giving the vinyls away he got much props too. Specially in these later videos, dude is giving away gold in this digital day and age. I was fortunate enough to know a older DJ who is a collector and artist himself and showed me the glory of vinyl, Machine Gun Kelly didn't even know what to play his records on. Nardwuar is doing a good job of passing down some core elements of hip hop despite his awkwardness. You have to respect that
sometimes personalities clash, his personality is why you watch all these. Regardless if he makes things awkward, the tension makes for an entertaining video which makes for more views which give him more popularity and legend amongst the artists. Surely, rappers talk to other rappers about these interviews and as he starts to interview the younger generation of rappers you can tell his personality has truly turned him into a legend now.
Bowzer from Sha-Na-Na!!! LoL! thats my sh!t for real!!! i still have a copy of a Sha Na Na marathon that my grandma recorded back in the day. It was like a doo wop version of SNL. funny sketches, music bits, etc. its really cool to hear ?uestLove to mention that... Much Respect to the Legendary Roots Crew!!!
I love him and I love Radiohead :D Questlove (or is it ?estlove) gives the best interviews, most people when they're interviewed bore me to death but he never does.

I've never heard Quest DJ, but I'd love to. Damn near anyone that's a historian the way he is is usually dope as fuck on the turntables. Even if the mixes are a bit off the music selection is typically on point and second to none. I got to make it a point to catch him.
Haha, your'e missing the whole "Nardwuar-stick", he got popular because of his personality .. Nearly every artist enjoy being interviewed by Nard, the most of the artists express' during the interview that it's the best they have ever done ..
Nardwuar vs Questlove are the best and most detailed learning experiences out of all his interviews
I can say I've learned a bunch during all of Questlove's streams during the last few days. He's a good teacher, on par with KRS.
Rainer-Wilfried Kasuppke Absolutely
DMC is close second.
@@simlevesque Aw, he can be on the same spot, I didn't mean to rank any of these guys.
two historians
Questloves in the house
Questlove, you’re not in the house.
@@leerose8628 you're no where
Yep
Quest love I'm your father
Daniel Jones is in the house

Your comment is older than timestamps
Now you don’t need to be talented to become a celebrity.

Nard blew Questlove mind. Top 10 reaction for sure.

Hearing that Questlove was once on a treadmill is the most astounding part of this interview.
I just spit milkshake all over the windshield. Lmao.
What a nice, humble guy. This is a great interview! Two music nerds going at it!
Artist that haven't heard of the guy are definitely spooked, but if your a artist you do research and I'm sure after some of his interviewee's watch his work afterward, they probably can understand he is one of those real legit 'nerds" who naturally have awkward social skills because learning is the number one goal, and i think most artist can find respect for that in the end, because that takes real courage, and courage is what got big name people where they are.

i wish i had that awesome collage of great rap albums in the back

Nardwar never disappoints
lmao! i'm pretty sure that's why the interview is in 4 parts. it's like, putting two music nerds in the same room and watching them go. i love it.
I love that The Roots and Radiohead love each other x x x
Your a good sport Quest.
He's a really smart dude. And a music fan first. Awesome interview

A network like fuse needs to give nardwuar his own series where he interviews people.

Lookin like Marvin
hahah idk if you've actually seen No Direction Home but if you have, you know what bob thinks about journalists.
nardwuar is crazy but damn does he pull info out of musicians
Wait, is this WHOLE interview with just Quest? He's the leader, but he isn't THE Roots
what were the black eyed peas called?

I think some of them just don't like the fact that he's acting or playing a role when they might actually be trying to do something real and honest.
So Jimmy F... Iz on some OTHER SHIT...GOT CHA ALLLLLLLLLLLL

Haha, your'e missing the whole "Nardwuar-stick", he got popular because of his personality .. Nearly every artist enjoy being interviewed by Nard, the most of the artists express' during the interview that it's the best they have ever done ..

@Gregory5741 listen to their album illadelph half life aint a thing soft about that album, also Black Thought is one of the illest M.C.s ever
What does Questlove mean when he's talking about stickers making you gangster?
Maybe referring to the parental advisory stickers.
@ajcarralejo Church! Quest knows his stuff and so does Nard.
could you even name another Hip-Hop interviewer?
quest seems alot more black when standing next to nardwuar
@Peepininmywindow ?uesto is awesome at DJing. He has such an wide range of taste in music.
