Tati said earlier this year that there would not be a new album this year, then she finds her muse. And what a muse.
This is a whole new level of Jinjer! I'm seeing them in October, and can't wait.

Cleopatra, Joan of Arc, Marie Curie and Frida Kohl (painter) some say the painter might be a combination of Frida and Georgia O'Keefe

Visually it looks much more like Georgia O’Keefe, but we all know how much Tatiana loves Frida so could be a combo for sure 😊

I had a long back and forth with three mates about the representation of the painter. I was advocating for Frida, and they sided with it being Georgia. Fans of Jinjer know Tati loves Frida (even has a tattoo of her), but they made two glaring points that support it being Georgia.
      1) Tatiana posted a still of her as the painter on her Instagram that posed the question, "Who is this?" Kind of takes away the knee jerk response of it being Frida and consider other painters that Tati has said she admires, Georgia being one.
      2) Simply search engine images of Georgia O'Keefe and one of the first you will see is of her in the vest and nearly identical hairstyle to what Tatiana has in the video. Frida's style tended toward brighter and flashier.
While Frida was about a decade younger than Georgia, they were contemporaries and even shared correspondence appreciating each other's work. I initially thought Frida fit the narrative of the song better, but Georgia does even more than I had considered as well.

@@spiknaaj The tattoo on Tatiana's left arm is more of an Amy Winehouse tattoo than one of Frida Kahlo. The tattoo is a recreation of a painting by Carolina Gallo which depicts Amy Winehouse dressed as Frida Kahlo with a few Frida characteristics added, such as a unibrow. To me, especially from a distance, it simply looks like an Amy Winehouse tattoo.

@@steveherman6909 I will mention again that Tatiana's tattoo is much more of Amy Winehouse, not Frida Kahlo. Until Tatiana says specifically who the painter is that she is portraying, we may never know for sure. I have also seen the picture of Georgia O'Keeffe (the correct spelling), and it is very, very similar to how Tatiana is dressed in the video. The style is Mexican but also Western US, which makes sense because Georgia O'Keeffe spent the majority of her life in Santa Fe, New Mexico (she spent most of the 1910s in the Texas Panhandle where I live). Although Frida did publicly wear very colorful clothing in public, I doubt that is what she wore while working. Since she is from Mexico, Frida could have also worn a simple shirt and vest while painting. That all being said, Tatiana's look in the video matches the public image of Georgia O'Keeffe much more than Frida Kahlo, whether intentionally or not.

2:00 - Neither one or the other, the Pisces video "blew up" in 2017/2018. 🙂
4:59 - I've watched all the reactions to this song up until now and so far no one has noticed/mentioned Roman's Radiohead 'Creep'-style entrance into this part.
6:30 - Yes! Progressive to serve the purpose of the songs and not as a display of the musician's egos. That's Jinjer.

While I agree that "Pisces" got Jinjer some traction in the European Metal community in the time frame you stated, I believe the reference was more regarding the UA-cam reactions. Some latched on pre pandemic, but the explosion occurred mid 2020-early 2021. Their invitation to Wacken 2019 does prove that notice was taken, but not solely due to the video. They were playing shows and touring while still a five piece, and before Vlad had come onboard.
Jinjer is so genre fluid because of their unique sound. Their own brand of Prog isn't flashy in the sense that they "feature" one over the other- all four get carried along equally. Credit also to the producers and engineers for taking the compositions and giving each of them a pocket to sit in and allow the nuances to stand out. Main credit of course going to Eugene, Roman, Vlad and Tatiana as the amalgamation of talent comes through brilliantly live as well.

@@steveherman6909 - You don't need to "lecture" me on Jinjer, I've been following them since 2016 and I know all about their history. 😉
But let's talk about YT reactions, then: in 2017 there were more than 20 and the "word" started spreading. These early reactions led to more than 60 in 2018 and by then the video had already over 1M views. The reactions' boom in 2019 (over 100) was pretty much all due to the traction they got in 2018, so I can say for sure that they blew up on YT before they played at Ressurection Fest or even at Wacken.

@@module79l28 Peace, my friend. I apologize about my post coming across as a lecture, and your statistical info certainly backs up your original statement. I was only trying to rationalize the comment made in the reaction, perhaps more to myself in hindsight.
You obviously know, so this is for the benefit of others who may read this, the "Pisces" video was meant to introduce Vlad as their new drummer, and as module points out, the video was popular prior to their appearances at both festivals mentioned and videos are available if you want to see them perform live. Some great stuff.
@module- Also hoping you considered the second part of my original reply in support of what you said. When scrolling through a comment section, the ones with replies do tend to stand out. I like seeing folks post about the band as a whole, so it should have considered that you're a true fan of Jinjer, and not just one who focuses solely on Tatiana. Glad to meet you, sorry again about getting you riled up, and happy to be put straight regarding the timeline. Looking forward to perhaps more new tracks soon.

Eugene, Roman and Vlad have a great feel for Tatiana's poetry, composing excellent soundtracks for whichever vocal style she applies to individual sections of a track. In some interviews though, it could very well be the other way around. Tati has said she will go to the studio very late in the game and the instrumentation is already (or very nearly) done, and it's up to her to apply her lyrics to the foundation. "Someone's Daughter" is hopefully the first single off of a new full album from them. Their trademark Jinjer sound is instantly recognizable by folks who've already been exposed to their songs.

I ran across Jinjer almost 8 years ago when I saw the Pisces video, so a little bit longer than 1-2 years ago. Back in 2016 is when they really started to gain international attention. (edit: Check out their live in Melbourne concert from 2020. It was their last show before lockdowns hit the world.)

Just got to your Djent style part, although they do sprinkle a bit in earlier in the track, it is very evident following Tatiana's harsh entrance. Of course, they make it "Jinjer Djent" with that signature dissonance that carries us to the next section.

If the painter indeed is Georgia O'Keeffe, it suggests that these are all women who dealt with issues directly related to their work. Georgia O'Keeffe had macular degeneration and caused a great controversy later in life after developing a relationship with a much younger man who was teaching her how to sculpt pottery, transferring her art from something that can only normally be done with visual reference whereas sculpting pottery involves feel more than vision.

    • @neilpatrickhairless

It's really a song about women being grossly underestimated and grossly underappreciated historically by society at large and only posthumously being recognized for the positive things that they do

    • @neilpatrickhairless

I should note that Tatiana herself is a somewhat unwillingly iconic artist herself. She doesn't really care about money or fame or celebrity in her actual personal life and sees her role in the band as being a necessary job and not really an easy job at that - she often feels misunderstood and is self conscious about her lyrics and image that are presented to all of us and this is her way of expressing that feeling of being looked up to as an iconic, influential artist yet JUST being someone's daughter in real life. It's actually a really sad song in the proper context

Georgia O'Keeffe also caught flack for having an unspecified relationship with a much younger man who taught her how to sculpt pottery after she went blind from macular degeneration

Was wondering if you’ve heard King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, out of Australia? If your preference is metal, check out Dragon. That entire album is top tier.
