Lye reacts with oil until all lye is gone and if there is extra oil in the soap, it is call superfat % which means you have soap and extra moisturizing oil in the finished product.

I swear you're the only one who makes these soaping videos that everyone can understand! even newbies! you rock it!!! I've seen this shampoo video 2 years ago with no soaping experience. then 2 more times till today and I feel proud now that I know what you're talking about. 80% of my knowledge comes from you. thank you sooo much! (also,is it possible to help us to figure out this percentage thing with a video?)

I put my shampoo bar into one of those seethrough nylon gift baggies and just rubb it agains my wet hair and hang the baggie on the shower holder, where its not sprayed by the shower head and can dry. I hove no waste at all like rhat and my small bars last 3+ month.

This is just what I needed to understand the difference between shampoo bars and soap bars. Same process different ingredients.

This depends on how much soap you are making. Then you use a calculator to determine your measurements. There are 23 class sessions/videos before this one (this is week 24). All the classes are super cool, I've really enjoyed them! The thing is, this video assumes you've already been making soap. Otherwise, it doesn't give/show you enough information. But the classes move quick! You get to start making soap right away. Plus, you don't have to wait a week between classes/videos anymore!

My best advice is to install a water softener in your shower or you could also try to experiment with the strength of your vinegar rinse. Yes, 3% sf is all I used.

It is just the nettle leaves you are after. Put on gloves, bring scissors + a sack, cut off the leaves, dry them in the sun {when your rain stops} then grind them. I use an old electric coffee grinder :)

I made these in a round mould so the shampoo bar
would fit into a small tin, and when travelling they are great, not messy and very light in your luggage.

I've watched quite a few of your videos, and I think you're great! I love the academic way you approach the subject. You're very easy to understand, and you go into details that a lot of soaping videos ignore but which I think are important. This video in particular is great! Keep'em coming!

Great video! Thanks for sharing your soaping knowledge. You said something about not needing the wine rinse if your soap pH is right. How do you adjust the pH of bar soap? Several weeks ago I started pH testing my soaps and was surprised to find them all testing in the pH10 range. Much higher then I desired so I started doing research. I was testing with the Macherey-Bagel plastic test strips. I saw someone on YT testing with paper strips so I ordered some. The same soaps that tested at pH 10

Wow! This is a super duper lesson I can't believe its Wee 24 already Where did the time go? My hair is very thick, coarse, kinky - not curly, not straight I find adding oil or egg yolks directly to my hair makes it feel like an oiled down boat rope Ask me about the time I saturated my hair with a jar of mayonaise (I was just a pup) It took many washes with Palmolive dish soap to get it out. hahaha. Defeated the whole purpose in the end. But your shampoo bar recipe looks like a real winner

Hi, I'm a french soapmaker and I love your videos. However I was quite astonished by one of your assertion and precisely when you said that" beer unless it is unfermented, overtime strip hair follicules and dry out hair". I thought that beer, because of the brewers' yeast that it contains wads excellent for the hair. Brewers yeast is rich in biotin, niacin and trace element which are all good for the hair. So I don't understand. Could you explain me. Thanks. Séverine

you don't need to dilute a bar, Just lather in your hands and use that to wash your hair. If you need more lather in hands again and use in hair. Shampoo bars are great. I make them and don't even need a condtioner, but that is my recipe. Hers looks wonderful!

Thank you for your response! I finally got around to making your shampoo today and so I watched the video again and got some more questions. You give the percentages but not the actual weight of the oils and so it is difficult to determine if 1 egg yolk is enough for 16 oz of oils or more. Also, you didn't give the amount of rice milk. Can you clarify that please? Thank you very much!

By putting in additives {such as citric acid} to lower the acidity or ph level will cease the soap from saponifying correctly. Please see my lemon soap experiment video. I have heard others adding Borax to lower the ph. But I have not tried it as I do not think my hair would respond well to Borax soap :) hth

And that's for realz....we didn't lose any, but three neighbors did. :-( Always sad to see the mature trees down. Oh a happier note, I'm here and adding a shampoo bar to my "gotta try this" list. Use one of the soap calculators on the net. There are quite a few and they are free to use. SoapCalc is a popular one. Soap calculators allow you to input your recipe in either percentages or in actual weights. It will show the qualities you can expect from a particular recipe, as well as calculate the necessary lye and water required.
