The Porsche production operation sets the highest quality benchmarks: in this year's 'Initial Quality Study' run by US market research institute J.D. Power, the Porsche 911 is rated highest among all nameplates in the overall study and takes top position in its segment for the fifth time in succession. The company's main production plant in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen also comes first in the factory rankings in the Europe/Africa region. In its segment, the newest member of the model range, the Porsche Macan, also takes top spot. The survey was completed by over 80.000 private individuals, and included 245 models from 33 manufacturers.
With its top place once again, the iconic 911 sports car takes first spot for the fifth time in a row in the 'Midsize Premium Sporty Car' segment. The US customers have thus been attesting since 2012 that this classic vehicle from Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen provides the highest quality. In addition, the Porsche 911 is the model with the least number of complaints of all vehicles taking part in the study. The Macan came top in the 'Compact Premium SUV' segment, thus repeating its success of last year, when it took part for the first time.
Based on the results of their study, the US market researchers also produced an assessment of the production sites. In the factory evaluation for Europe/Africa, the main Porsche plant in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen, where as well as the 911 the Boxster and Cayman models are also produced, was ranked in first place.

In the 'Initial Quality Study' J.D. Power annually surveys new car customers 90 days after their vehicle has been supplied. In this year's 30th running of the study US new car drivers were surveyed between February and May 2016 on 233 criteria from a range of different categories. Properties and features that the owners are asked about include 'Driving experience' and 'Engine and transmission'.

Hey, that was just the Greatest !! So different from when I was there in 1985 . There some robots, doing spot welding, etc . Engines were a lot less complex, still hand made . Body panel pressing, was much the but on a smaller scale , but very “ clunk bang” atmosphere. The Porsche’s look so Beautiful! I am glad that I have one : My one ? Oh it’s a 1969 911E ( light with red interior) RHD , which I have owned 37 years. I love it and drive it as much as possible !!!! Thanks, Stay Safe ! Cheers

With the exception of the Turbo,GT2 and GT3’s there seem to be lots of Carrera 2’s, 4’s and Boxsters advertised with engine rebuilds which appear to suffer to catastrophic engine failures. One of my friends had a Boxster S and the engine blew up - he now drives a brand new Mercedes. Another friend of mine has a Carrera 4 997 - his needs a new engine. Mechanics say after the 993 models the Porsche build quality was drastically reduced. I used to have two 993’s but would not consider buying another until their reputation for build quality has regained a good reputation.

@@jspin1103 I was told from a good source that after the end of the 993 Model that Porsche made cost cutting exercise and one of the things they did was make the engine block walls thinner in the Boxster, Carrera 2 & 4. As a result the engines suffered from bore scoring and as a result of the piston chambers becoming oval shaped when hot and as a result the engines required rebuilding. The other common fault was the notorious IMB bearing on the same cars.
The Turbo, GT2 abs GT3 did NOT suffer these problems as they were fitted with a completely different Mezger engine name after the legendary Hans Mezger with engines derived from the billet proof Le Mans GT1.
It depends on your budget but one of the best value for money cars, that are incredibly well engineered and handle well is the 996 Turbo. There is a very good book that sells on eBay for £80 - £200. Ultimate buyers guide Porsche 911 Carrera turbo and GT (996).

@@jspin1103 the 993 models were very well engineered the 996 997 c2 c4 and Boxsters had these issues. The Turbos GT2 and GT3 did not have these problems
