Production methods a world away from the Zuffenhausen plant I visited as a UK Porsche dealer technician in 1981, (although the original building is still there). With far, far lower production numbers in those days, and much less complex vehicles, all engines built at the plant were run-up on a dyno before installation, and when the cars were assembled, all 911's, Turbo's and 928's were road tested around the streets of Stuttgart before sign off. Truly hand built, over-engineered vehicles, which is surely why many of those that have been cared for are still around.

It is just the size of a warehouse. Of course they operate different factories, but all 911s ever build where build in their old main factory. Seriously tiny, when compared to behemoths, like the main VW factory at wolfsburg, for example.
In 1978, I picked up the 928 in Zuffenhausen with my father after his previous 911. With a factory tour. I was given four halves of jam and cocoa at the reception in the morning - while I watched LeMans....I was nine years old, I'm not making this up. After that was the tour of the factory, where the 911s were still running in parallel. I was incredibly impressed. However, what is shown in this video is as technologically distant from my memories from 1978 as my golf game is from Mickelson's. Unbelievable.
I have been to the Ford Explorer plant here in Chicago- where more than half of the workers were on their cell phones while assembling the automobiles…..ahhh unions

I've owned 2, 997.2 and 991.2 and getting a third because of stuff like this. Just watch this whole thing with a vodka rox. They're affordable especially if you're single! Ps.. It took me 3 vodrox start to finish... Sipped for 42 min.
Most of this is 10 years old. At the beginning there's some 992 production. But most of the video is 991.1 and 981, which started production around 2011 and ended around 2015/16.

It would be annoying to work there if you knew that you could never afford one! However, it's in my nature to do the very best at whatever I do. I would always put the piece onto the car as if I was building my very own. This is the Brand that I would pick...regardless of what else I could afford.
The video is 10 years old. The model shown is the 997 and the gold metalic was a special edition for the 2014 Olympics. All versions of the current model 992.2 are sold out, one can curretly not order a new Porsche 911, the orderbooks are closed. A successor to the 992.2 has not yet been determined and therefore cannot yet be ordered.

Great video but I think it would be even better if subtitles were added to each section of the production, explaining that part of the process, to give more information to those watching what is being done and what this or that is for. There are several moments when the viewer has no idea what is happening in those images.
Ya know, I'd buy one, in a second. I seen 'em up close and they are the Rolls Royce of sports cars(sorry Corvette!). And seeing this build vid confirms it. I don't like that Porsche has sealed the engine compartment on the newer year models though. We poor autophiles like to look at our engines.

Nothing is actually produced in this factory, the parts are only assembled. It would be interesting to see how many suppliers are involved.

I just bought a 1989 944 Turbo :) Old school. Still in 2023, the engineering and handling of this car is amazing.
