This is clearly not the portrait of the bishop Maurice de Sully. It seems to be the portrait of Mac Mahon (1808-1893), Marechal of France and french President.
It does, for some weird reason, appear on Google Image search results for Maurice de Sully… That's what you get when one can't distinguish between mediaeval priestly attire and modern military uniforms. 🤦♂
Born in the Chateau de Sully.
um, not "a symbol of Gothic architecture", it is Gothic architecture. it's a symbol of the heart of Paris. but I appreciate the updates.
Wrong at 2:04: Saint Etienne du Mont church [picture] was built around 1494 on top of Montagne Sainte Genevieve in the Latin Quarter, and is still standing today near by the Pantheon. It has never been a cathedral; it shelters the remains of Genevieve, patron saint of Paris. On the other hand, the 4th Saint Etienne cathedral on Ile de la Cite (Lutetia) was standing where is the large plaza in front of today cathedral Notre Dame.
Wonderful video. Blessings to all who have worked to restore this world treasure and for all the prayers and resources from around the planet. May Notre Dame continue for many centuries ahead as a loving symbol to the Creative
principle of the Universe...God
I remember part of the cathedral exterior still covered with soot and the other half either all cleaned off showing the original yellowish sandstone color or jets on scaffolds spraying water on her in 1969. Before that, the whole building looked like it was built of grey and charcoal-colored stone, since home, business, office and school in the city had been heated for years by coal.
I hope they put in s sprinkler system to protect that wood roof and structure. A fire alarm is just not enough! The cleaning process has made the church look better than it has in hundreds of years!
You have so many wrong facts.
To the honor of our Mother Mary and for the Glory of God.
I have been supporting the restoration for all this time and can't wait to see Notre-Dame again. I pray that I will be able to travel to Paris in 2025 so I may witness this extraordinary resurrection.
The most important point to notre is, a night fire watchman is a lot cheaper than rebuilding the whole thing.
or installing a sprinkler system
Except that roof wasn't usually subject to sources of ignition… It just burned down because of some accident during renovation works, and it wasn't exactly at night, but probably during work hours still. There were people around, and they had to evacuate.
@@Mainyehc How many instances of 'ignition' do you need to burn down a building? Only one, right? We install sprinklers systems and fire stairs for that one instance only. It's this mindset of precaution that saves us from a lot of harm. This also applies to structures built before that awareness arrived but here and there, it has not sunken in yet, apparently.
This is absolutely not the portrait of the 12th century parisian bishop Maurice de Sully ! By the way, do we have a portrait of him ?
You can see his image in a form of a statue here on the French wiki page fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maurice_de_Sully#/media/Fichier:Maurice_de_Sully.jpg
Until the 14th century, there were no realistic portraits of anyone in France. The art of portraiture did not exist then, and we have to wait for the portrait of John II to see for the first time a public figure faithfully represented. Therefore, there is no realistic portrait of Maurice de Sully anywhere.

Too much misinformation!
Thanks for your Video. Your image representing Maurice de Sully is most probably wrong as Wikipedia induced you into it. (they represented a noble person of the IXXth century while Maurice de Sully was a Bishop born in 1105 and died in 1196 and very little (or none) portraits exist .
"Absolutely wrong", not "probably". It's 19th century President Mac Mahon.
This is crap! Your images don't match the text.
I know, and his title is a clickbait,
Stupid youtube clickbaiters.
"Do not recommend" button come in handy.
Yeah, and it's quite ridiculous how the narrator keeps talking about the history of Notre Dame, then says, "but now let's get to the restoration"... only to once again resume talking about distant centuries of history.

Anyone know which church the Archbishop of Paris has used as his pro-cathedral whilst Notre Dame has been out of use?
I absolutely despise videos narratec by stupid bots!!
Replacing traditional features like confessional boxes, altars and classical sculpture with modern art, lighting, and sound effects? What? This is a cathedral, right? So why not install soulless ugly modern art so devoid of inspiration and beauty, a sound system yeah!, we don't want the place to be quiet with subdued light because that might encourage visitors ... to ... pray ... or go to confession! And why not install vending machines or hire the church out as a dance hall as they did with Canterbury Cathedral! These are all wonderful improvements! I feel sick.
Actually it can no longer be called a Cathedral since they've desecrated it and removed all the Holy Consecrated items!!! No intelligence used in planning!!! 😢
I was a bit shocked by that too- those are historical elements. The French do amazing sound and light shows, but keep it on the exterior, please.
Your video is an awesome gift. Thank you! ❤️
Glad it was helpful!
Les tours 2000. À New York, la cathédrale c’est les mêmes.
Computer generated audio lessens the credibility of your channel and this video.
Ok, what’s the date it will open?
Apparently December 8 2024
@@MATIOSAR45 No one should care!! Stay far away as evil now lives there!!
Please don't turn Notre Dame into another Disney event !
Did they install a sprinkler system?
Yes. They got ideas from the rebuilding of Nantes Cathédrale, that an arsonist set on fire a few years before ND
Good Question 😅
Quebec ( Canada) wants to rebuild the 1976 Olympic Stadium roof, which they estimate will cost more than the $700 million, to rebuild the Notre Dame Cathedral's roof....lol
I’d love to know what percentage of the repair was fielded by Americans.
Of course! A reprentative from the US who wants to be sure that American contributions are recognized. Even the $$ become highly important; to make sure that if the US was a large contributor the whole world must know about it. And you wonder why so many people are leaving the US for other countries where MONEY IS NOT GOD!
@@suefrench8721 get over it Karen. The point is, Parisian’s treat Americans with a bit of disdain. And before I hear about your diatribe, I’ve been to Europe dozens of times and I am writing this response from Catania. Who is the “representative” you reference? How much did you donate? And honey, money does make the world go around. Baby, hopes and dreams aren’t fixing the church. Got it baby doll.
This must be totally or partially AI generated , with lots of questionable or wrong "facts". Then the voice-over with an American accent pronounces the name as if it is that university in Indiana, and not the famous Parisian Cathedral. But suddenly at 8:16 the correct Notre DAHM cathedral is used correctly instead of Dame, the university in Indiana. Why? AI I'm betting or incompetence.

I am REALLY tired of the current fashion of leaving an image on screen for no more than 3 seconds! What is the point? That you are afraid that the viewer will realize how shallow and repetitious your video really is? If anyone has been following this restoration over the years they will find your video tells us very little!

When watching a video, you should at least be a critical thinker, what you are watching and does it really reflect as the title says.

My appreciation is offered to President Macron, to countless generous donors, to the multi national legion of engineers, architects, and to the skilled craftspeople who are working so hard to restore this world class iconic place of worship back to its former greatness.
Stop with the AI voiceovers. Pony up a little cash for a real narrator
Good history, decent building updates. The robo voice narration and incorrectly pronounced names were a bit like fingernails on a chalkboard.
Famous by the novel of Victor Hugo. Not really interested in the Church itself! Always crowded though. Paris has other places worth visiting. 🤨🤔
This a cathedral, not a football team... it's pronounced Nayt-tre Dam not Note-er Day-m

C’est pas fou, pas de salle dessus, ça barder, on fait sauter le Pentagone
In a time when people are living on the streets across the world, hungrily looking for food, this represents the ultimate selfishness of those who spent millions rebuilding an edifice to symbolize the strength of the Catholic church.
Remember those parts of the Bible that speak against the worship of idols? Those idols representing the saints and Mary? This was not God's plan. This new edifice represents POWER, CONTROL, and the worst of it is, by building it, the Church has made it clear that this rebuilding was more important than the welfare of human beings around the world. FOR SHAME!
It'pronounced /not-re dam/, not
/noat-re dame/. Next time you make a video, get the pronunciation checked. It's just lazy and ignorant.
It’s pronounced “No-tre-dam”. Not “Notter Dame”. Terrible narrator!
Just click bait ..rubbish
wonder how much sexual innuendo was subliminally added to the cathedral during the restoration process?
The IMPOSSIBLE dream. Praise be to God and the Blessed Virgin Mary. Amen.
