Chanel Bag Restoration | Dyeing from Beige to Black

We're often asked by our clients whether we can restore or redye Chanel handbags. In this video we show the process we use for restoring Chanel bags using a black leather dye.
Most of the the bags we see are dyed or heavily coated with spray gun finishes, which gives an unnatural look to the leather. The process we use for redyeing leather bags is to hand apply the dye to get an even finish. It takes longer than spray dyeing but provides the best result.
The first step was removing the Chanel strap and staining the leather to black. The stain is a base coat on which the leather can be redyed / refinished. The dye was then hand applied to all areas of the bag to get a natural finish to the leather. The gold Chanel heat stamp on the inside of the flap was also retained.

It looks so much better! Black Chanel classic flaps usually have a burgundy interior (so you can see your stuff) but I don’t think the client knew that.

Yeah that's true - if I saw this and didn't know it was restored, I'd think it was a fake. Other than that, it's a decent job. I wonder why the gold finishings weren't covered to protect them from paint?

Just wondering can you do 18k gold plated for the silver hardware of a Chanel bag? It is hard to buy a classic Chanel bag in gold, so I am thinking to buy a silver one but get the hardware plated in gold .
I have a Michael Kors quilted leather that I’ve been trying to restore and the leather is worn and a bit rough in spots like the bag you are working on. I used dye on it already as you did to start but I don’t know what the second pigment coat is you used to smooth out the worn rough bits. Can you please tell me what the product is called?
Did you apply anything after you finished dyeing so the dye wouldn’t rub off on her clothes? If not, she is going to have a lot of rub off. Also, why didn’t you use a saddle stitch on the handles? Would have been stronger.
You did a great job, but first you should do a preparation to make sure that the color you apply will absurb directly to the leather, then apply some finisher.

This seems a bit misleading since the leather preparing and the end coat process are missing. You must have gone around the logo with a fine brush later which is also glossed over. Anyone using this as a tutorial will end up with a giant mess. Quite irresponsible.
Hi Arumina, thanks for the comment. This video isn't a tutorial for how to dye a Chanel bag. We just thought it would be nice to show a few clips of the process.

Pretreat a leather handbag before dying it you would use a light coat of olive oil

Go to the professionals
You need to first take previous layers iff and start dying it afterwards. After thr first layer you remove excess dye that leather didn't soak in, and let it dry, and after start applying second layer.... These are basics

Poor chanel bag.. stained into black oblivion. Open the bag, watch the abyss from there and start to wonder, where is the burgundy lining?
Nice work but too much talking. Keep it simple and put the Focus on the Bag
