- Ghost performing Ritual live from the Haze Over North America tour at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles, CA on April 15, 2013. This was shot with a Sony Cyber-shot HX9V. Yes, that was the backing track for Year Zero that got mistakenly cued at the beginning of the song.

The main riff of Ritual is so fucking awesome! The lead guitar just rips at the ending, chops from HELL !!
I asked the band if they wanted me to not upload this one, but they told me to go ahead and do it despite the fuck ups.
The thing I love most about this band is how selfless of a front man papa is. Most frontmen basically make the show revolve around them, and while papa is obviously the figure of the band he constantly highlight the others, like pointing toward them during their solos and getting the crowd to applaud louder for them from 5:46 onwards. Class act.

I think the visuals add to it a lot. Perhaps a DVD, rather than a live album? But with a huge budget so they can have some crazy stage props

That right there is proof that Papa is one of the funniest guys in the metal world.
There are very few modern dark metal bands that I care for. Ghost picks up where the great riffs of the 80's metal bands left off - big riffs, hooky turn arounds, and vocals with clarity and harmony. Although I'm not a fan of backing tracks in live performance, Ghost uses them tastefully. They're a well balanced and very musical band with charisma. I was born in the 60's and like all kinds of music. I've played in several bands that never amounted to much so I know it's not easy to stand out from the crowd while keeping a band together. Can't wait to see Ghost in October.

I like the fact that Papa tries to kind of imitate the Pope in the ways that he greets people and carries himself on stage. Imo, the music is "soft" because it is like holy music, except, obviously to Satan. I just like the ways they imitate the Pope and the way they are on stage just, you know, shows they know what feel they're going for.
I listen to black metal daily, and I LOVE (old) Ghost. Basically satire both musically and image wise. Love Papas "papal" mannerisms. Those days are gone, but the past stays alive if we keep it alive.

The Crowd should be the ones backing Papa up. I think Ghost's songs really should be sang along to. I cant imagine a more perfect sound than the crowd belting out the chorus along with him..

They don't and never have hidden the backing tracks. You have to figure that the band all wear masks so they can't sing so someone has to do the backup vocals - so they are all on tape. I couldn't give LESS of a fuck about that - this band is fucking brilliant.

Adrianna Fahrenheit yeah. Ghost is my favorite band and has been for few years. But slipknot are, to put it simply, metal gods. No one makes slipknot look like Disneyland. Slipknot makes most bands look like Disneyland.
Slipknot is literally a completely different genre of music. It's like comparing Garth Brooks to Taylor Swift. I don't see how they can even be compared other than the masked gimmick.

So quickly? They haven't toured since last spring. The a7x tour doesn't even count because it was with shitty bands and it didn't come to California (wouldn't have gone anyway).
I guess im counting Oct because they were here with deftones and a7x - I just wanted to see them ::)) i'd go to see them open for any band but totally fukking psyched they're headlining this tour and doing so many dates. Happy I can see them a few different times. Last spring yes :)

I have been listening to all three Papa's vocals. The character has changed, but I will swear to Satan it is the same guy. The voice is too similar.

It is the same guy the only flaky spot in the band has been the bass player... Omega / Alpha have been the same guys since the beginning and I believe t hey have a different drummer now.

Every performance from these guys I've heard the vocals sound a little too perfect..I hear the backing track so I know he's not opposed to lip synching.
The fact that you hear the backing track proves he doesn't lip sync. The track is just the backing vocals, no leads. And I've heard him mess up before.
I can assure you that there is no fake singing.

Since the band doesn't do the backup vocals, they use a track of the harmonies and choir vocals to back up Papa's live leads. He is singing live, but the way the production is on the album, it would be impossible to reproduce that sound live without touring with a choir, so they are currently using a track.
TheRealConcertKing It's actually posible, there's a microphone pedal that gets your voice in different notes to do a backup choir when you need it. :)
***** I've got one (a vocalist live 2). It's OK if you want to harmonize at specific intervals... but if you've got a shit-hot drummer capable of playing with a click, it's far less hassle to just give the engineer a cable from a laptop.
***** Unless you're talking about a different one than what I know of, they are very artificial and electronic sounding. That wouldn't fit with Ghost's sound. fun. uses it live for Some Nights and it makes the song infinitely worse than the album version with the actual backing vocals.
TheRealConcertKing Have you tried the Helicon? It sounds incredibly real and good, man. I doubt this is the case, I'm just saying it is possible.
