- The moving journey continues & this week I take you along as I spend time building my new home in Portland, OR. I build furniture, start to decorate, and find my best thrifting find yet....next video I'm showing you guys my room reveal so make sure your post notifications are on! Also side note: I feel like this month is a time of transition for so many of us. Whether that change is exciting, scary, disappointing, or boring, I know it's going to work out eventually. I furnished my first apartment with free furniture. Other people’s trash became my treasure. I painted and re-stained and recovered and reframed a lot of it.
Wow good for you that's amazing! I strive to do that one day.
In England we have Gumtree and Facebook Market. I’ve gotten all my furniture for free on it. My favourite piece is a Welsh Dresser. You have to look every day, every hour, because if something is good quality and free it gets snapped up within seconds. It feels so homey having quality wood furniture, I painted them to help marry the colours in the room. If ever I want to change it up, all I have to do is sand and varnish to have the wood show or paint a different colour!
I have gotten a lot of great items from thrifting. One time I was on the hunt for a chest to put my plants on and people were sticking the craziest prices on trash... But after patiently searching, I found a gold chest for $50 that was originally from One Kings Lane for $500! Nevertheless, I snagged it up and it makes me smile.
*One of my rules of thumb is I only buy what I love (clothing, furniture, and decor etc.) and not the things that I like!
You’re doing such a wonderful job Kiara! I moved into my own place at 21 and boy did I learn a heap of lessons haha! I changed my decor around 6 times my first year and it gradually got less. Never stop seeing what’s out there you never know what gems you might find and it’s okay to change it up. You grow with your living space.

Also I'd have to say my best thrift store find is a sun shaped mirror that was made in Spain by nuns. Woman was giving away all her old travel buys for so cheap, it ended up being $10 and my favourite thing I own!

hey kiara, for the pickle jar you could use a knife and make a small hole in the lid, usually those jars are vacuum sealed and the hole will let the air out and makes it sooo much easier to open! love your videos!! 💗

The best thrift store find i found while living abroad is a $20 ish couch. no bugs, came with a pillow, and its arms and the back is adjustable. it did have that weird thrift store smell so after spraying it a few times, it was almost good as new !

Unpopular Opinion: Taking your car to the dealer is the most cost effective way to keep your car in ship shape. They repair warranties and recalls free of charge & the repairs are guaranteed. It is so tempting to save money and go elsewhere, but the money you can waste on hack-job repairs (the GRIEF!!) It is just so much better for peace of mind and (over time) your wallet

Jasper is starting to etiolate because he's stretching for the light. You can snip the top part off, let it dry for a few days, and then re-pot it. Also, if you keep the bottom bit in its pot, it will make baby Jaspers. Nemo looks amazing.
