Hey Andy, great to see you in the Cairngorms.....Nice video edit here on your intro... Extremely cold up there I am sure.. Great commentary from the tent I enjoyed that. Loved the spindrift in the porch... 🥶🥶makes my conditions look rather soft... ATB Tom
It was harsh shall we say. On my to do list for a long time. I’m glad I saw the frozen weather station. Was worried about breaking camp but knocking the ice off kept me warm. So wasn’t too bad. The biggest hazard was the skiers ⛷️ 😂 👍
Youngen that was fantastic I bought all the best gear last year ive done a lot of munros in my time. Then at 67 ive had a stroke but I'm still determined to get back out we are not promised tomorrow thank you you our kid will
Wow ‘pretty darn’ epic! Without the right gear up there you’d be a gonna although a mat fail wouldn’t help. That extra foil mat is definitely worth carrying as backup. Awesome night to remember 👊👊👊
Nice one Andy👍. Trudging through that snow is absolutely energy sapping. Like you say, it’s not for beginners up there in winter. It can go very wrong, very quickly. ATB - Dave
Going up the weather was constantly changing. Was worried about the pegs on top too. But I got away with it. Definitely not an easy hike through deep snow. Skis 🎿 are the future 😂😂. Cheers for watching mate atb. 👍
Hi Andy, thanks for making me feel colder than usual lol. I found your channel after watching you with Al on the Beda Fell camp and following his link to you. Jeez! That looked like a killer and me thinking I'm hard done by with central heating turned down. I'm a tad too old for adventures like that now but back in the day I reckon I could have coped - hopefully! Anyhoo, glad I've now subbed you and I shall be watching out for new uploads. Stay safe out there.
Excellent cheers for the sub. Yeah pretty cold and wild but pretty straightforward. I was well prepared for a bit of chill. A nice cup of tea would have been so nice though 😂 thanks for stopping by. Atb 👍
Love this vid Andy mate👍. The views and music are monster boosh!. Just watched it again as of today and we're appreciating so much more than we seen at first watch👍 thanks for fetching us along👍🙏
Cheers mate. I’ll not forget this camp in a hurry. Had everything I wanted. A bit of danger too. I was concerned about the pegs not going in. Tip for anyone heading up is take a little mallet. The rocks are all frozen solid 😂. What a place. Cheers 👍
Awesome video Andy! I love winter camps, they’re challenging but rewarding at the same time. Hoping that 2023 brings you many blessings. Cheers brother.
Hi Andy amazing camp, although looked another world up there on the top, certainly need the right gear and experience to camp up there. We walked up there about 10 years ago although it was summer and a nice plesent walk, we had too children in tow so never got to see much of the pubs in Aviemore, be nice to revisit again.........all the best Pat
Definitely worth going back Pat. It’s a lovely area. Lots of hikes and camping opportunities. It felt like I was on a different planet. Loved it. Hope you had a great new year. Look forward to your 2023 adventures. Atb. 👍 🍻
Proper cold. I was done in off the hike up. It’s hard in the snow. Skis would’ve helped 😂 yeah the cold can take your energy away. I just cracked on. Cheers for watching. HNY too. Atb 👍
Great video Andy, looked a proper winter camp that one. Another year and I still haven’t made it up to Scotland. Conditions looked challenging mate. Great effort 👏🏻👏🏻🥶
Cheers Craig. Ah man you need to visit. Some amazing places. I’ve not even scratched the surface. Definitely going back this year a few times. Challenging conditions but it’s what we prepare for. HNY mate. Atb. Get to the gym 😂 💪 👍
I see you are wearing gloves ? In extreme cold i swear by mitts so the fingers are touching and not separated. They heat up much faster with little loss of use. Mitts are also much easier on and off.
Ahh well. Once I’d stopped mucking about I put my mitts on. Those Rab gloves however are really good. Best gloves I’ve got they really keep your hands warm. I know what you mean about the mitts though. 👍
WOW!!!! Andy, hats off to you Sir, what an amazing effort! The Cairngorms on a winters night is certainly not the place fore humans. I did a winter skills course one January weekend from Glenmore Lodge some many years ago and I know how your feeling. We had to crawl along parts of the Cairngorm ridge on hands and knees until finding a suitable place to make our snow holes for the night. Yes it’s far too cold to enjoy a beer in those conditions. The Cairngorm area is truly one of my favourite wild places to be, can’t beat looking over Loch Avon. Yes, hats off to you Andy, that was BRILLIANT! Cheers Mike 👍
Cheers Mike. Good story that. It’s a wild area certainly. The plateau makes the wind wild. I’m glad I got tucked in a bit. When it opens up the views are incredible. Loved it. Cheers for stopping by. Atb and happy new year. 🍻 👍
Just another level. Extreme wild camping Mr Wardle, enjoyed following this trip on instagram and the vid was great. I'll knit you that warmer as discussed! Happy New Year
Cheers. Yeah it’s all boring from now. 😂 was a good trip like. Made the most of it. You’re going to need a LOT of wool 🧶 😂😂😂 best start now for next year. Atb 👍
Bloody ace that Andy, well done man! That was one hell of a nights wild camp. I totally agree you need to build up to something like that. You were in an amazing shelter that could deal with the weather you had thrown at you. Loved it! P.s. can't believe you never took tea or coffee lol
Cheers ant. Yep forgot the essentials. What a muppet. I was choking for a cuppa like. Definitely a camp to build up too. A good starter though it’s not really that bad up there. The cold is the key. As long as you wrap up well it’ll be fine. Watch the forecast though. They had 100 mph winds once 😖. Atb mate. 👍
Hats off to you Andy that's some challenge!! I once forgot I had a Morrison's frozen lasagne in my freezer and it was there for about 3 months..... when I finally found it and took it out it looked like your tent!!! Incredible conditions those. Thanks for the upload 👏👏
lovely video - its a different world up there in the winter, but beautiful. If you get the chance to go back on a still night, the plateau. in the winter, is a wonderful place to walk over at night with a bit of moon. a memorable camp for you - well done
I was hoping for a nice clear night but I settled for wild and windy 😂 definitely a great spot. There was a break in the cloud and the stars were amazing for a bit. So definitely one to remember for night skies. Thanks for watching. Atb. 👍
I thought it was cold and gusty when I was camping at Langlee Crags the other night but this is a different league. Thanks for sharing and best wishes for 2023.
I’ve camped there and the wind can be awful. But yeah a lot going on up here. It changed direction loads. So it was a bit odd. Hope you had a good new year Atb 👍
Mr you are bloody nuts haha that 3mile hike to the spot must of seemed like 12 walking up that high in snow mad as a bloody hatter you are mr wardle great video
Cracking opening footage at the beginning of the video, some lovely views 👌. It definitely looked like a cold camp. I can only try to imagine how cold, especially with no hot drinks to have, I bet you won't forget your tea or coffee next time lol. Great as always, see you on your next adventure 🤟 🤙
I find living for a short time in rough conditions it's a good way to reset the mind and body. Then, going back to the comfort of the house, all those things won't be taken for granted anymore.
A proper winter camp that one Andy , Cairngorm is the 6th highest mountain in Britain. Lol forgetting the tea and coffee lol .. Two cans is a good substitute in the heart of winter lol , magic lol .. nice one mate .. cheers Stevie

Tough in the snow like. Was steep too. Being a ski slope 😂 it felt good but it also felt great knowing I had this camp done. Tick list done. 👍 Atb mate 👌 😊
Hard walking on that snow and ice mind, especially when the weather started to pull in. Good to see you 'back' in the tent and the only liquid I would want out there is something red hot. I could not get a wink of sleep in those conditions and the tent did really well to withstand those conditions and looked a tough walk back down to the car. Pretty Darn Cold indeed, cheers Alan
Cheers alan. Yeah was a bit of a test a hot drink would’ve helped Loads. I couldn’t believe I forgot everything. Walking on snow is worse as you sink in. The ice was ok with the spikes. Earplugs helped me get about 6-7 hours kip. Also. Knowing the tent is safe helps. Cheers for watching atb. 👍
Another great video mate all. I can say that you must be keen you like all kind of weather ☁️. Braver than what I am. As can't stand the cold . Look forward to your next adventure any happy new year to you.
Just keen to do this camp for a few years now. Covid. Bad back etc. I was determined 😂 didn’t disappoint. Colds not for everyone though. Cheers for watching atb 👍
Great wild camp Andy. Noticed your toes were curling next to the jet boil lol and don't blame them. Glad it went well. Happy new year for 2023. Really enjoyed watching. Atb Steve 👍
Bet those midges were thinking this bloke is crazy if he thinks he can out whit us by going camping in the snow. Safe travels and happy new year Mr Yep Backout.
Epic Andy, that must of been one hard slog up to the summit in that deep snow, wild conditions up there 👌, soulo BL stood up well 👍, looked like an igloo in the morning, that’s proper mountain camping there, but like you said…not for beginners, atb Mick
Yeah it was quite tough on the deeper snow. But coming down was harder it was deeper again. The tent was awesome wasn’t even pegged out properly and it stood firm. Not for beginners but good for experienced. Well worth it. Atb mate. 👍
Whilst not really life threatening it certainly made for a more comfortable camp. I couldn’t get the pegs In properly so I definitely think the tent quality helped here. 👍
Cheers. Yeah I was happy with the tent. Was only about 35mph though. So a lot of tents would be ok. I slept well knowing it was safe though. Cheers for watching atb 👍
@@AndyWardle me and a couple of mates are doing our first winter camp on the Border Ridge in February so hoping the weather isn’t too wild. My mate’s got a Soulo but I’ve just got a Snugpak Scorpion so hope it stands up to it 😂
The weather station recorded windspeeeds upto 173mph. Think your Soulo could handle it? Not prefer something more spacious for bad winter weather like a nammatj 2? Weighs about the same as a black label Soulo
No tent could handle 173 mph. Soulo Max 80 I reckon then the fear would start. I’ve got a staika for when I want more space. Although there’s nowt wrong with the nammatj.
You madman, that and Ben MacDui are 2 summits I would not like to camp on, unless it was in summer with calm winds. I've come down off of there with winds hitting 50-60mph, I knew it was bad as I didn't see another soul for the whole 6 hours I was walking. I got off just before the wind was forecast to get really strong.
It’s been on my hit list for a while. First attempt was crazy. The weather was just right at the start of this though so I went for it. I looked at MacDui it seems very Rocky on top. One to consider though. Cheers for watching atb 👍
Definitely the tent was the star. It wasn’t even pegged properly. So yeah. I was grateful for that tent. I’m posting as much as I can this year. Hopefully get some good stuff done. Atb mate. 👍
Yeah I’ve not seen that before 😂 It’s a weather station. Apparently it’s mostly frozen up. But was a godsend in the wind. Got a little bit shelter. Atb. 👍
Surely this is just an advert for the BL Soulo! 😂 you told novice wild campers not to try this and that is the truth. I’ve camped in much milder conditions on Dartmoor and Snowdonia and my MSR hubba hubba and elixir tents have really struggled in the wind. I was up Cairngorm in the summer and found the descent quite tough with a big pack on my back, it’s a long way down to the car park
It’s some advert 😂 yeah definitely not for new campers but really not too bad. It’s the chill factor that can catch people out. I think people are underestimating the wind speeds. In this video it was maximum 35 mph. It can be intimidating though so they freak out. I think it’s an east camp and hike and memorable too. The walk down took forever 😂 the deep snow took its toll. Cheers for watching. Atb. 👍
@@AndyWardle thanks for replying, one question I do have is what pegs did you use at the summit as I know it’s pretty rocky up there? Did you use the Y pegs that come with the BL or something else? Thanks again
@@benvickery I used alpkit spikes. Like Eastons. And I buried delta ground anchors as deep as I could and packed the snow around them. I was a bit worried they’d pull out but they never. So it was all good. 👍
Nice one Andy, you are a Soldier, thank god you take that silver mat with you, you have inspired me to get one now. Touch wood i have never had an air mat fail on me but thats a wake up call. Do you take those hand warmer pouches with you ? I swear by throwing one of them in the foot box of your sleeping bag the the temperatures drop, they really do make a difference and they last all night too and they are less than the price of one of your fine Ales so well worth it. Have you got a link for the foil mats please ?
Cheers mate. The foil mat is unreal like. I got mine on eBay. Just do a search. I paid about £8. I also got the large one double sided so you can fold it over. Honestly it makes a huge difference like. That flipping air mat needs to go back but as usual they’re being awkward. Anyway cheers for watching. Atb mate. 👍
@@AndyWardle Just received one i bought for 6 quid which weighs nothing but not sure how long it will last because it doesn't seem that durable but at that price if it lasts a season its worth it, thanks for the tip :)

Bailing wasn’t an option at that point. Zero visibility. Plus I was actually quite cosy. Annoying though. Definitely better off staying put. 👍
Brutal weather but the black label stood up to it ,another awesome video mate keep on bringing us the good stuff john from Sheffield England
Definitely the tent was the star. It wasn’t even pegged properly. So yeah. I was grateful for that tent.
I’m posting as much as I can this year. Hopefully get some good stuff done. Atb mate. 👍
Now that's what I call wild......on K-Tel!!! Well done Andy, gudden!
HAPPY NEW YEAR.
😂 yep. Little bit wild. Certainty cold. Memorable. Atb 👍
Another great camp Andy. Beautiful views .👍👍👍🥶😀
Cheers. Yeah I’m glad i got some of the views was touch n go at times. Atb 👍
Great vlog …. Looked a bit chilli 🥶 but amazing
Cheers. It was a tad chilly 😂 but I reckon it was all worth it. Cheers for watching. Atb. 👍
Cracking hard core camp, was it enjoyment or purely to test yourself against the conditions
Enjoyed it
Keep em coming
Cheers
Mixture of both. I planned it years ago but it kept getting put off. Glad I eventually got there. One to remember. Cheers for watching. Atb 👍
The guy lines with the ice and snow 😮 what was the big structure you were next to?
Yeah I’ve not seen that before 😂
It’s a weather station. Apparently it’s mostly frozen up. But was a godsend in the wind. Got a little bit shelter. Atb. 👍
Definitely no tent envy now probably mat envy creeping in Been there on a white out its crazy to leave Aviemore pubs an grub 👊
So hard to give up the hotel 😂 had to be done though. Now I’m glad I did it like that. Flipping mat. Has to go back. I’m not happy 😂😂. Atb mate 👍
Great video Andy the weather looks amazing. Atb Wullie ✊🏻🏴
Cheers wullie typical Scottish summer 😂😂 been dying to do this camp. Glad I went. Atb mate. 👍
Proper hardcore , always tough going packing down tho ! Nee tea or coffee lol
Ahh man I was wounded. Packing it away warmed me up like 😂. Atb mate 👍
Brilliant video. Thanks for the plug :)
Nee bother. Cheers for stopping by. I think you’re in the next video 😂😂
great video, but next time build snow up against the base of your tent will stop snow blow
Cheers. I would’ve done. But it was -10 and the snow was frozen solid 😂
Nice one fella 👍 👏 I really enjoyed this one... you can tell you know your stuff... 🏔🙏🏴
Cheers bob. Well I like to think I know a “bit” still learning though. Never stop that. Cheers for watching. Atb 👍
Great that Andy ATB For 23 👍🏻👍🏻🍻
Cheers mate. You too. 🍻 👍
Amazing video, hats off to you!
Cheers. A nice change and a tick off my list. 👍
Happy New Year Andy from all of us here in Wallsend.
Cheers Terry. Same to you mate 👍 🍻 😊
I’m full time around Cairngorm it’s a great place for summit camps. 😊
It’s been on my list ages. MacDui next
@@AndyWardle I slept on the summit weeks ago minus 14 just mat and bag it was a great night
@@ACshinealight nice 😂 I’ll keep in my tent.
Sure that was an hard core camp , damn good walk
3 mile in deep snow plays havoc with the quads 😂 pretty hardcore. Definitely memorable. Cheers for watching. Atb. 👍
good video andy mate yes i have 2 pairs of goggles mate i use them with my e,scooter. get yeself a balaclarver mate you need one up there bro
Cheers. Aye I’ve got one but it makes me look like a terrorist 😂 goggles were a big help though. Made life easier. Atb.
@@Olan... they do feel flimsy. But I’ve been using mine 3 years this year 👍
Pack snow around the edges of your tent and stamp them down.
Tell me now 😂😂😂. It was the kind of powdery snow. The sort that doesn’t pack well. Probably the -6 temperature that did that. But yeah. Top tip. 👍
Chlly man, definitely chilly🥶
Little bit. 😂 I recorded -15 at one point. Wind chill. It was a steady -6 though. Tea would’ve been so nice 😂😂. Atb. 👍
New to the channel, really enjoyed the video and happy to subscribe.
Cheers. Welcome along. 👍
Thanks!
Ahhh thank you mate. I’m putting these donations in charity boxes. When I go to the lakes. 👍
Looked a great trip mate 👍
It was mint. Definitely do it again. 👍
Ballsy Andy solo in that. Heading up there in two weeks so will see what we get.
Good conditions for a camp that. I reckon if you go there’ll still be snow. It was really thick on top. Watch out for skiers though 😂. Atb. 👍
Amazing andy
Cheers. I loved it really. Despite my moaning 😂 Atb 👍
@@AndyWardle you dunt moan lol
@@tps3057 inside I was 😂

All the best mate
Cheers. You too 🍻 😊

Boom tingz
😂 👍
Great camp and inspired me to give it a go in February. Proper winter conditions.
Cheers. Yeah it’s doable. Just watch for skiers ⛷️ they don’t stop for you 😂. Spikes or crampons if it’s icy. It’s very steep in places. 👍
