This was the model that taught me you can use foot pieces as things like shin, shoulder and chest armor. It's flawed as can be, but I think it made something click in young moccists-to-be like I was at the time.
Nice to hear that while you aren't necessarily a huge fan of the set that you still got a really large takeaway from it. I imagine that this period of Bionicle really lit a spark for MOC builders
This was the final Bionicle I ever owned. My godmother bought it for me as a birthday gift, unfortunately, I had already moved away from toys at that point. It didn't help that I never had much money for Legos to begin with. Still, it was the most stylish sophisticated set I owned.
Review on point per usual! I was a big fan of his colors and the tube eye. I remember watching the movie and being so confused when he was portrayed as the “dumb” brute. I felt like in the books and comics he had more of a scary presence. But I still love the depiction in the film. Alongside Nidhiki they make a fun dark hunter duo!
Thanks man! I completely agree that him and Nidhiki made for a really fun Dark Hunter duo. The tube eye and a few other system elements thrown into this set were definitely a nice way to switch things up
Just recently purchased Krekka, put him up on the shelf with the rest my 04 collection. Something about the Metru aesthetic really pulled me in as a kid, and even now it's one of my favorite settings/waves. They were some of the first sets I purchased when I got back into Bionicle.
I was pleasantly surprised by this set, loved having it as the introduction to the Dark Hunters in this series. Those future Titans look incredible, but we'll wait and see how close Krekka can keep it
This was around the time my interest in Bionicle was waning for whatever reason, so I never even knew this set existed. Looking at the titans for this era, they all seem really cool. I agree that they totally nailed the bounty hunter look, and I appreciate how much of an individual Krekka feels like. Definitely gonna be moving this up my list. Great video as always.
his left arm could have had one of those white-stripe ball-joint connecters for the staff-head attachment point, as the one they used has been implied as "hands" up to this point. that is one thing i liked about the Glatorian sets, the hand pieces for models of Toa proportions(less than a titan in size eg. titan Mata Nui), they help stop confusion.
I always dug Krekka's design. One thing I thought was interesting is that I've always had the impression that the weapon pieces were in-fact his arms (based on how massive they are in the movie).
When I was younger I couldn't believe Krekka was an official set, thought it was a moc made by someone since I saw it online. The feet and the arms just look, humm... ugly? not in an "ugly cool" way like other sets, more like this wasn't well planned.
good review, i would like in future reviews if u could talk a bit more about the articulation, how far an arm can go or a leg, besides that, it`s cool that brnigs this toys back, they are my favourites
Just built mine after purchasing the Ultimate Dume titans + sidorak last month. My experience was like yours, although mine still has decent friction. Sidorak did not, so I think it depends on the condition of those parts. Back in the day they offered better friction than regular joints, so I think some just wear down after heavy usage. By the way, I loved Krekka's build too. He feels very mechanical and augmented because of it.
I've always really liked Krekka, his design just has tons of personality. Sadly, those leg joints, which ironically were designed for friction, become pretty loose over time. I'll try adding super glue or floor polish to mine to see if that extends their usability a bit longer, but yeah it's an annoying problem.
I always saw his 'weapons' as being forearms and clawed hands, making those 'wrist' joints his elbows, which is an interpretation the movie seems to have gone with.
I think you're on point.. The rahkshi staff arm definitely pulls off the "silver weapon being the forearm and hand" look better than the Vahi tool hand, though. The vahi tool arm already has a static joint from the mata limb, so it really makes no sense.
@@TheGuysSayHello yeah one of the arms works but the one with the vahki staff looks messed up. it sort of gives it a "broken thrown together" kind of look though.
I still remember that day when my Parents bought me this Set at Marktkauf in Germany. He was one of my First Titans and I really like him. Also keep up the good Work :)
Yeah, Krekka has way loose joints for me at least. I suspect the rubber on the new parts for the joints has deteriorated a bit by now, hence the slippage.
Those arms, they really hold this model back especially in terms of play value and posability. And those ""friction"" joints are definitely a problem, they seem to be quite variable in my experience and really hurt the big combiner model.
The arms for me was such a moment of "ugh you were so close!" From what it seems the friction joints were a problem for a lot of people, which is a shame because you'd figure that they'd play test these models enough to realize that
The more I look at him, the more I appreciate his design. So many clever details, drom the shoulder-slung cannon, to the missing eye to give him a more unique silhouette and character (and also probably not to interfere with his launcher mechanism.) I actually really like the feet (screencap), they look like they have those stability flaps that large Republic/Imperial Walkers have in Star Wars, I picture them folding down and planting into the ground as he walks. I'm a little more torn on the arms, since I do enjoy the idea of that bit of tasteful asymmetry, and with that long thing Vorzakh limb and that small and stout Vorahk limb (I had to google to make sure I got those names correct...), he's got a sort of crab/lobster thing going on where he has a leaner snipping/cutting limb as well as a stronger crusher limb, but it would've helped if he had just a touch more armor on each of those upper limbs. Ah well, great review as always! Top notch presentation and insight.
Krekka was the only 2004 Titan I never owned, and never knew anyone else who owned him. I honestly don't remember even seeing this set in stores for some reason. There is actually a plethora of rare recolors in this set, including the only other standard set appearance of the Vahki head in white (aside from Keerahk of course). The Rahkshi foot in earth blue/Metru blue is actually exclusive to this set, while the Nuva armor piece and Rahkshi torso beam in the same color also appear in a parts "tub" (6620). Even down to some more minute Technic pieces such as this being the second of only three appearances of the Technic 2x2 cross block/fork, the only standard appearance of the 3M Lever, 4x4 and 3x7 angular beams, 90 degree cross block, and the debut appearance of the 5M beam and first of only two appearances of the 3x3 M 90 degree Lever in earth blue/Metru blue-which actually debuted in 2002, not '03. Some other pieces like the Technic HTO V beam, Double Cross Block, 3x3 Lever M, 2x2 cross block/fork, and Foot with Cross axle appear in white in fewer than 20 sets, including this one. This is also the final standard appearance of the Technic cross axle Extension in silver. The socket joints that are introduced in the Titan sets of this year only appear in one other standard set in Earth blue, along with this year's combiner "set" and another of the same fashion in 2006. They appear the most commonly in black after this. Only two other standard sets contain the Voodoo Leg in earth blue/Metru blue, with one being a system playset. This set is the first appearance of the Metru feet and knee armor in silver, and it definitely isn't the last. Moreover, this is the only other standard set (aside from parts "tubs") to contain at least one of the Staffs of Erasing from Vorzahk and is the second of only four standard sets to contain the end of the Staff of Hunger from Vohrak (the Black Rahkshi). I think this is also the last appearance of the Metru Matoran Disc Launcher.
When I thought it over I would’ve used recoloured rahkshi upper leg assembley for the upper arm, relatively beefy has options to connect other pieces for further bulk, and have a socket connector for use as an elbow joint

Turaga Dume and Nivawk uses the same leg piece and mine is loose the same way. I live in a warm country, but the piece has been wobbly since I got it, so you're not alone on this.
Loose joints are because you got used version. Thewhite striped parts were the new friction joints to add more stability to bigger models. most likely, this Krekka was play piece and got its legs moved alot around, causing rubber and friction to wither away.
I used to play with him as a kid, I was already disapointed by the arms but he was one of my fav anyway. Also I didn't had that joints issue, these were even pretty solids actually
Not really. I know they paved the way for Bionicle in a way especially with the canister designs, so maybe once Mata Nui Mondays are complete I would consider it
i looooove krekka. My one has the same issue though, the legs/feet joints like to collapse, they just don't have the strength to hold up his massive upper body after ~17 years
I put this comment on the Toa Metru video, but I wanna put it here in case You see it! While I like the level of this reviews there's just one thing that I would like if it changed: In most of the videos You make the comment that the set comes with advertising material, but You never really show what that material is. IKR Nidhiki is a really cool character with a cool design, personality and intimidation factor. He's just so made for me and I love him so much. Probably one of my favoritr characters in any kids media if Im being honest. And the backstory is really good???!! Probably one of my favorites. I think the joint stiffness is just that model. I had this set as a kid, got it in 2006 and the joints were sound. Loose enough to move without difficulty but stiff enough to hold position.
The rubber on those joint pieces add more friction and make them stiffer. There great brand new, but they break very easily. I had to replace all the joint pieces on all my Metru titans.
Agreed they couldve made him bigger around the body maybe some vahki legs as arms and proper hands like axonn, krekka was meant to be a tank and other than the body itself it’s a bit lacking, similar i think to keetongu
honestly im considering getting him, because all i would want is to make his arms look more like in the movie witch would not be that hard to be honest.
Krekka would had been so much better if the creators replaced those cheap asymmetrical arms for symetrical ones like in the movie. It would require 2 Metru Blue Mata Limbs, 2 White Metru Upper Torsos and 6 or 8 Silver Bohrok Eyes for fingers. The actual "Weapons" from the set (from the green Vahki and Black Rahkshi) are supposed to be his "hands", just like the Hordika when compared from set to movie version.
Yeah so I definitely had a slip up there 😅 but then it would just shift over to the con of having no wrist joints and using a single weapon piece to represent forearms and hands.
i work in a non benefit company which restore toys for less privileged familys and in my department we repair and put together lego sets... this week i put together the 10202 wich is composed of this and 8621 & 8622. it was barely 2 hours on the shelf before a kid grabbed it ^^

The movies kinda ruined everyone's characterisation. Hell Onua went from being the 'eldest' and wisest of the Toa Nuva to being somewhat brutish

honestly im considering getting him, because all i would want is to make his arms look more like in the movie witch would not be that hard to be honest.
my first bionicle...
By the end of summer were gonna reach 2006 where shit gets real with Titans.
Kinda confused when you said he has no elbow articulation because the silver weapons represent his arms.
Yeah so I definitely had a slip up there 😅 but then it would just shift over to the con of having no wrist joints and using a single weapon piece to represent forearms and hands.
I love dark hunter and even myself moc is dark hunters
It's the end of the line toa
Mmm nostalgic
From what I can tell his weapons are meant to be extensions of his arms
I think he has claw hands, and the wrists are his elbows
When you look at the movie character I think you're right on point here
Do you think they went this way?
I found this set randomly at Walmart in 2010
i work in a non benefit company which restore toys for less privileged familys and in my department we repair and put together lego sets... this week i put together the 10202 wich is composed of this and 8621 & 8622. it was barely 2 hours on the shelf before a kid grabbed it ^^
Missed opportunity on changing Mata Nui Monday to Metru Nui Monday smh smh
I did consider it, but I want to keep the series as one consistent name
Where's the toa?
I got disappointed when he mentioned the arms, now i can't unsee it and unhear it. But he is still an amazing set
Krekka needed real arms but other than that a great set.
too bad these reviews are only once a week :(... love the content tho
The less frequent the reviews, the longer Mata Nui Mondays will last though! :)
Krekka = B tier
his head is somewhat similar to Nitroblast
I have that one
Based
yo yo waddup
Nidhiki, where the toa go?
You must have let him slip past. Circle the other way back.
@@matthewmurnaghan2583 where did the toa go? Did you let him get BY YOU?!
You bought this used? That's like, illegal or something
Can't get them all new, I wish though...
