I was able to correctly guess each one, which is good since I also did my own comparison between the BassRig and Quad Cortex. My biggest takeaway from it is that I'm really happy with the QC model. The pedal is still my favourite as I prefer it's higher gain sound, but the QC is a very close second and I don't have to regret using it.
My ear liked the BassRig in the mix. Possibly because I recently got one myself and have been using it allot haha. My ear is getting tuned to it.
This is a really awesome comparison!
Glad to hear you liked it!
Good tones from all of them, thanks!
Thanks for watching, Wagner!
Interesting. Standalone I liked the plugin a lot but mixed with drums I liked the Bassrig the most followed by the Quad Cortex. I thought the QC needed more low end though.
Great video! My favourite is the plugin; there is a kind of "mellow touch" on the overdrive, that I really like. To me it is the best representation of a tube amp, in this comparison.
I agree. Although the other two don’t fall that far behind 😁
Cant go wrong with any of these, all 3 sound killer. Just a matter of application , and personal preference. Thank you for this video! I’m super impressed with how well the BassRig stacked up against the QC. Would love to hear a comparison with the hx included.
I can make that happen. I have Helix Native (plugin)
@@IvanBassist Cool! And maybe also the Boss GT1000?
In my ears the origin rig pedal sounds in this video really great. It has balls. The plugin sounds boring. The quad cortex is somehow in beween the origin pedal and the svt plug in. I have listen this video with headphones. Ivan you don't need any longer your plug in. Only when the production should sound as clean as possible.
I completely agree! I think the OE SV pedal sounds the most organic and best all around!
I liked the sound of the BassRig in the samples, which is good since I just got one a couple of weeks ago!
Great pedal!!
first time listening to it blind, A stood out a lot and was a lot more pleasing and interesting to listen to, B was alright felt like it was the plug in, C felt somewhere in between the first two but overall A had that special something to it, made me happy as I just ordered that unit and just confirmed I made a good decision. I noticed anytime I listen to A/B of plugins vs analog devices I always pick out the plugins, something about it never sits well with me.
Thanks for the effort! Overall, I liked the BassRig best. How about a BassRig vs Tech 21 VT Bass comparison? 😄
I’ll ask around if any of my friends has a VT Bass 😁
I think the vt bass is easily outclassed by the bassrig when it comes to being close to the svt sound.
@@IvanBassist have you tried the Super 300 pedal? I head it's pretty good
Checkout Atomic Pedals BassBox, would be good to see BassRig vs VT Bass vs BassBox
Interesting. I had a clear preference for the QC for the first set of samples. I preferred the BassRig on the second set.
I was able to correctly guess all three of them. The BassRig was my favourite, followed by the Plugin, which was a little tamer to my ears. I didn't like the Quad Cortex too much, tbh. It sounded more like a model of the B7K than an Ampeg. YMMV.
I guessed right. I liked the bass rig the most, then the quad then the plug-in.
I’d say the plug-in was my least fave of these 3. It’s good of course, but the character seemed comparatively “subdued”, while the pedal and cortex were both punchier, which is my personal preference. Out of the those two, I’d say the Quad Cortex had the slight edge, as it seems to have a bit more “depth” than the pedal? Thanks for the cool video!
Agreed
Cam to the same conclusion after listening blind
Spot on
Definetly the bassrig for me, sounded the most tubelike and warmest.
Great pedal!
Thanks for this video.
In order, plugin, quad cortex and the last but not the least the origin effect.
The first is the darker, the louder, really fat. I prefer this kind of sound.
The QC is more dynamic, but the sound is already loud. Very interesting in the mix of a rock And roll band.
The OE is the clearer, with a lot of medium frequences. It’s not the sound I like.
In french : les goûts et les couleurs…
I agree with this opinion. The plug in had a lot more depth to it. As a QC owner I was hoping it was going to sound the best to my ear, but it didn't. 2nd best though.
There's just something else in the Quad Cortex sound, whether it be guitar or bass amps. They just have a distinctive grind to their sound. Must be the way the software was built.
It took me a really long time (and I'm still tweaking) to get a useable sound out of the official Ampeg VST. Listening here I think I might prefer the Quad.
This is not the official ampeg VST, though
@@IvanBassist right! just going on a bit of a tangent, mentioning how much trouble I had getting a good sound out of it.
Ah gotcha! Yeah, i not a big fan either. I prefer the one by UAD/Plugin Alliance. Much easier to dial in
I just bought the bass DI box A+ CabZone Bass by Shift-Line from St Petersburg, Russia, i know.... lol... It's got 2 SVT 8 X 10 Cab sims in it, 11 iconic cab sims and 11 amp sims, so quiet and perfect for some drunken late night playing as it has a real headphone amp built into it, sounds like a real SVT 8 X 10 ?..
It's better than i thought it would be, small box, not pedal box, with XLR DI output, ground lift, input level pad button with straight thru output as well as XLR... my favourite box right now, the perfect bass players recording tool, well impressed... i do like that Ampeg sim pedal
Nice! That one has cool IRs
@@IvanBassist... lol.. i meant i like the SVT pedal you were reviewing, Ampeg?!?! don't know where that came from, though i do like some classic Ampeg amps & cabs... i luv the SVT cabs and cabs but at my age it's gonna have to be the IR
box now, a little bit easier & lighter (& cheaper) to move around for sure..... 👍
por lo que yo escuche,
A:se escucha mas analogo, tiene ponche y saturacion sin tanto brillo.
B:se parece mas ala señal Di
C: lo mismo que el A pero con mas brillo.
mi favorito el A
Thanks for the vid Ivan! Any experience with the DSM Humboldt, if yes, how does it compare to the rest of the list?
Unfortunately, I have no experience with that one
@@IvanBassist you should definiately try it, I’m using that with a Cali76 and there is a Catalinbread SFT in the effects loop. Sounds awesome.
I feel the Cortex not precise or sharp enough (when there is no saturation). Therefore, at the end, I prefer the Brainworx plugin (at least on a clean sound), which is precise and deep at the same time. That's the one I use (I got a free version that is good enough).
The free version is also great!
I guessed them correctly, but I don't agree with your "thin" description of the BassRig either. I reckon it had more feel than the others which is why I guessed it in place A.
I had to boost about 7db of bass in post to match the sound 🤫
Man, GREAT comparison! I prefer the plugin 😃
Origin Bass Rig was my favourite. It was more meaty and focused. The other two sounded somewhat thinner.
Good stuff! Thanks for watching!
You should've done the test, ask people to guess which "amp" was used, and reveal what you were playing in a next video!😁
That's how Glenn Fricker did it. And the number of people hearing correctly which "amp" you were playing through would've been much smaller. 🙂
If people want to cheat themselves, they can go for it 😄
I prefered B - the plugin!
You'll need to re do this with the new Ampeg DI pedal
I’ll see what I can do :)
+ a real SVT or V-4B

No binding similar to SVT or not

Cortex>BassRig>Plugin - BassRig very veeeery close to number 1 on the more driven tones...
I miss Sunn.
Origin sounded the best to me and the SVT plug-in was too dark and the Quad was to brittle and artificial sounding

Super disappointed by the Origin, too much high-mid.
