Jefferson says he "missed the late 80's". He means he missed the late 1780's, but here he is, singing jazz in a hip-hop/rap musical, almost as if he missed the 1980's.
Basically Laurens, Alexander’s impulse control died and everything went to shit.

And here comes Jefferson. An American hero and in this case, a major antagonist. He’s really fun.
This song is a great one by Miranda. He wanted Jefferson to sound completely different when he shows up because of being away for so long. Because of that, this song is purposely supposed to sound like a jazz song, which sounds very out of touch in this musical, to show how out of touch Jefferson was with the politics of America when he returned.
Miranda is a genius!
I loved it! Helps liven it up! Lafayette and Jefferson just make me laugh through the rough parts. And love his dancing during this number in the filmed play
When I first discovered the brilliance of the show, I only had the soundtrack to enjoy, and this is the first time I've ever seen actors having different roles in different acts, so I was so confused when looking at who sang each song and saw the same actors. I was probably most surprised to learn that Oak (Okieriete Onaodowan) played both Hercules Mulligan and James Madison, as the two had very different styles and sound.
2:34 The girl is supposed to be Sally Hemmings, one of Jefferson's slaves who he r*ped when she was 14
