Fantastic design and tutorial. Love that you tell us the exact WindsorOne moldings you use and how you use them. So then we can duplicate the design without struggling.
I understand why you pocket join, having that Castle machine is very nice, I have Kreg Machine, it's not as fast or as good as the Castle, but it motivates me to pocket join a lot, I also glue up, the caveat is, GET IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME, you know what I mean. Nice work by the way.
Absolutely, tape measures are great for setting a baseline, physical fitment for marking and final cuts is the most accurate method for final cuts and assembly. I like building custom furniture I don't like rebuilding the same thing over and over but you have totally inspired me to start learning and doing some fancy trim work, I'm gonna start with a complete home re-model. You have given me so many ideas to brighten up my home and to make it feel more cozy, the goal is to make it feel like I never wanna leave. About 10 years ago I started my woodworking journey and got addicted, I've always worked with my hands, went from electrical and HVAC to being a master automotive technician with an L1 specialist certificate, I will always have a passion for custom automotive work but I'm equally passionate about anything wood related. Now that my home is paid off I will be building a hangar style garage with a lift in it in the back yard with an attached metal shop and next to that will be a 15 × 30 woodshop.
Man you Texans go fancy. Up here in Canuckistan everyone tore that stuff out decades ago, all solid wood or stone now, i started out as a youth working with that kind of mouldings so it's been nice when a customer asks for old school look's. Rare though.
Richard, u are a great tutor , I ve learnt more from your Chanel that I ve in any college , that’s why I love watching your videos all the time , nice one , u ve made me a fan of Windsor one
I’ve been watching this channel for years. You’re a skilled carpenter and craftsman. It’s obvious that you care very much about your work. I tried so hard to find people like you when I was remodeling my home, and it was impossible. I even shared your videos with the carpenters I hired to install wainscoting and they did NOT do as good of a job. Frankly, I don’t think they watched the videos. Anyway, thank you for making these videos. I’ve enjoyed them for a long time.
watching this, it occurs to me...that if your customer watches this and you keep saying "it's easy" they're going to want a cheaper price! Great work Richard. And....it's all set up to do legs if in the future the customer wants them.
No harm putting the glue on the primer joinery at all imo, Definitely cant hurt. I do this also, would be interesting to see how much stronger it actually makes the joint!?
I’m glad you chose me to win a prize, but I have no idea how to get hold of you in any event have a happy, happy Thanksgiving I learned so much from your channel
5:08 Hey Richard, those Collins Miter Spring Pliers and Miter Clamps (on Amazon) are not in your EVERY TOOL I USE link in the video description. You can thank me later.
I don't think it's quirky to use the piece to make your marks instead of the tape. Faster and more accurate that way. Good work. I like how accurate your miters are. Nice and crisp.
I've done many fluted mantels before. I use a different jig that is better in my opinion that what your using. I wish I could post a photo of them but UA-cam won't allow me to do so in the comment section.
I once got yelled at for using a carpenters pencil from my cabinet maker friend. Always uses a 7mm or 5mm mechanical. I cracked up when I saw you using one. Great video man.
Measuring lends itself to three more possible chances for error. 1. Reading your tape measure wrong 2. Writing your measurement down wrong 3. Marking your work piece wrong Marking in place is the only truly accurate way to measure
FASTCAP GLU-BOT on Amazon. They work really well until the seal goes and what that happens it's frustrating. I'm on my third one. They last a couple years. Maybe I just got lemons.
As FULL DISCLOSURE as a viewer, I have had lunch with Kurt twice....ADDITIONAL DISCLOSURE...my wife has given him homemade jars of FRESH PESTO....WINDSOR ONE IS AWESOME!!!
Why use pocket screws when you could drive a screw in from the top that no one will ever see? Your work is excellent but you leave me scratching my head at least once per video Also, Don't know how you get such accuracy with a pencil that fat!
It would need to be a long screw to get a good bite. That moulding is 1-5/16 thick. Thanks! I love the carpenters pencil for many reasons! I’ll make a videos on it !
Great tutorial Richard, thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Like this type of video too. Straightforward. Thanks.
Yeah, but can you make a cutting board?
Awesome Richard thanks for sharing!
Fantastic design and tutorial. Love that you tell us the exact WindsorOne moldings you use and how you use them. So then we can duplicate the design without struggling.
Happy Thanksgiving do you and your family great video as usual
When stacking moldings your only limited to the amount of space you are covering and your imagination. So much fun combing trim like that.
Those spring clamps are pretty nifty. I'm curious to know if they leave detents on the material?
As always, you have taught with patience and elegance, and we enjoy seeing you and thank you for sharing your experiences.
I appreciate that!
Looks great Richard 👍
Happy Thanksgiving 🍁🍽🦃. Thanks for the video.

Beautiful as always Richard
Nice video!!
Kinda has a New Yankee Workshop feel to it. Keep it up! I really miss Norm.
Nice job !!!! Looks Great !!
Classic Finish Carpentry Tv here. Should have 350k+ likes
Awesome thanks for tips
Simple but elegant,nice job.
Especially when building one off custom pieces, using direct measure is the mark of excellance.
Thanks for sharing.

Gorgeous mantle, looking forward to the install video.

“I want tile or quartz around the fireplace”. That’s what I hear on every job. Yuck
That’s a awesome mantel love to see more simple project thanks

Great to hear!

Really nice work. As always.
What's a good interior trim reference for all these designs?
I would like a video of the makita miter saw
Any chance of you doing a video showing how you calibrate you makita saw
Thank you for your videos. Great job
Looking forward to the install and hopefully finishing the wood/paint
As an old aircraft guy, I do the same when marking pieces to cut rather than measure. Worked for me for 35 yrs keeping the USAF birds flying...
Good video 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
That is so neat.
Excellent and aspirational as always! Shame you had what appears to be aunlucky nail shoot through into the center flute at 10:32!!!
Simple build... Looks amazing to me!!!
Awesome video.
Beautiful piece. I really enjoy watching your videos. Inspirational!
I been watching your channel for years
Richard, you're my freakin Hero!!! So skillful Man!! Hoping all is well Bud, Dirty Jersey out!!
Ha was literally looking for a mantle tutorial or example when I got a notification of your new vid. Awesome thanks Richard.
Nice one bruv 👍
Nice work
Richard can you please recommend your favorite work shoes?
That mantle looks gigantic.
Wish I could get the Windsor One trim pieces, but they don’t deliver to KY. Love the mantel.
I almost never use a measure when I can just hold the piece and mark it. Nothing quirky at all. Nice build! 👍
Quality work again. Nice job
I appreciate that
I have tried getting Windsor One here in Richmond Virginia to no avail.
Great stuff
Great video, thanks!
Great job....
Good content. 👍
Looks great. I want to see it installed and painted and so so pretty!
Coming soon!
Do another one great information
❤

Would be cool to see a strength test of a primer on primer glue joint.
How wide is that fireplace?!? That mantle is loooong!

Bro, what's that patreon you, Brent, and his son started? I can't find the video. Want to get that!
New to the channel, Curious as to what the story is behind the title "Dewaukee guy"?
Scott brown has just started using the spring clamps.
I've done many fluted mantels before. I use a different jig that is better in my opinion that what your using. I wish I could post a photo of them but UA-cam won't allow me to do so in the comment section.
How much did you charge for that mantle
pretty cool. You just need a cartouche in the middle field now. 😁
Nice work! Is it just me or have you turned away from using CA glue? Used to see you using it all the time.
I think CA glue is for some fast stuff. Here he's nailing and clamping everything so wood glue is gonna be cheaper, easier and stronger.
Tbh it’s simple if you have all of your tools, templates etc. otherwise it’s still a good amount of work.
Sweet!
I’m curious why you didn’t use ca glue?
@Dm me 👉finish carpentry 👈 on telegra'm I feel really stupid but I don’t know how to do that😖
Which brand is good to go with for those spring clamps?
Collins Miter Spring Pliers and Miter Clamps on Amazon. Kind of spendy but I've used mine a number of times.
I once got yelled at for using a carpenters pencil from my cabinet maker friend. Always uses a 7mm or 5mm mechanical. I cracked up when I saw you using one. Great video man.
Measuring lends itself to three more possible chances for error.
1. Reading your tape measure wrong
2. Writing your measurement down wrong
3. Marking your work piece wrong
Marking in place is the only truly accurate way to measure
I disagree that it's quirky, I think it's more accurate to use relative measurements over tape measurements when you can.
Молодец парень!!!!!!!
I'm a custom furniture Maker and I can give you some advice good job
I dont know.....I think you could have squeezed another dozen pocket holes in the construction of this. 🤔
I made one just as nice with legs without those fancy tools. A table saw, chop box and router.
A lot easier to do your routing first then cut to size
What glue bottle are you using in this video?
FASTCAP GLU-BOT on Amazon. They work really well until the seal goes and what that happens it's frustrating. I'm on my third one. They last a couple years. Maybe I just got lemons.
Everybody loves a cheap date!
A carpenters pencil? Try Stancils’ ✏
Why 16 ga. rather than 18 ga nails?
Pretty sweet...................
First
I thought you said basic tools!
I have a hand saw, a hammer, and a screw driver. What can I make with them?😂
Dewaukitosch
Lucky you didn’t get any nail blow out based upon how the nail gun was positioned
As FULL DISCLOSURE as a viewer, I have had lunch with Kurt twice....ADDITIONAL DISCLOSURE...my wife has given him homemade jars of FRESH PESTO....WINDSOR ONE IS AWESOME!!!
Haha! That is funny. I haven’t met Kurt yet but I read somewhere he has shirts available 😂
Looking forward to when you switch to stain grade on these projects.
Good BBQ can be a serious bribe. I've got my eye on you now Richard.
Never showed us how to install it?
nice job looks great.Where are the safety glasses?
🕶🇺🇸
Last.
Too many lines for me. I like a little more modern look
