    Dude, I’m sitting on a train going into London and can’t stop flicking through your videos. I’m a dad skater with two little skater girls and despite owning five different boards, I still want the waterborne adapter now to add to my collection! Thanks for the video and keep at it.........right, off to work now ☹️

      The Longboard is lots of fun going down hills and on smooth pavement flats. If you can find an empty clay tennis court it is like riding on a cloud. But for skateparks and getting around where there might be some uphill involved, I am finding the shorter board to be my go-to.

      This was my first foray into making videos that I thought others might find useful, and I kind of shudder watching it now... Such bad surfskate technique and video work a little unrefined, but I stand by the content and conclusions, if not the quality of riding 😁. Thanks for supporting from those early days!

      Hey, having watched some of your rad bowl skating videos, I think you would have lots of fun with a Carver C5 or CX series trucks. If you are looking for something different for pumping and cruising the flats or going downhill, that is where I find the Waterborne thrives. For me, as my skating has progressed and I now do most of my surfskating at the skatepark, I would go with my Carvers, but it is the Waterborne adapters that helped me progress to this stage.

      @MarktheLandlockedSurfer what trucks do you use with the Waterborne adapter? I think my set up on a longboard is too high from the ground which is costing me stability. Was thinking of swapping to a drop through to maintain clearance, but wondered if this was necessary. Skated a bit in the 80s and 90s, but very rusty. I'm on a board for the same reason as you - nearest coast is only 20 miles away, but the consistent surf is a 6 hour drive!

    (reserve kingpin or traditional kingpin trucks)

    • @MarktheLandlockedSurfer
      @MarktheLandlockedSurfer  3 роки тому

      So much of the movement comes from the adapter itself... I have tried it on both and I don't know that it made a big difference, but I felt like it was smoother on the reverse kingpins. I'd probably start there if I had to choose.

    Great videos. All you guys with your channels are just gold to people like me. At 54 I learned to skate bowls and transition the last couple years with my son and I am hooked. I've surfed, windsurfed, and Sup'd for years. I just ordered the Waterborne set up, front and back. What is your opinion on using just risers on the back to start or going straight to the rail adapter? I'll be using one of my old school bowl riding decks around the 9.5-10.5" x 32"ish and 16" WB dimensions & Ace 77 trucks. Not really a mention of trucks in the surf skate world....Thanks!

    • @MarktheLandlockedSurfer
      @MarktheLandlockedSurfer  Рік тому +2

      I currently prefer mine without the rail adapters - They definitely give extra lean but it actually takes away some of the drive you get from pumping. So they are excellent if you are trying to get some deep turns in a tight space, but if travelling any distance, you get a lot more energy return from having risers at the back and the surf adapter up front.

    What do you reckon is the ideal wheelbase for these adapters to feel as if I’m riding a shortboard?

    • @MarktheLandlockedSurfer
      @MarktheLandlockedSurfer  4 роки тому

      I think it will depend on your height and stance and other factors, but it seems the sweet spot is between 14" and 16" based on models that are sold for that purpose. Because the rail adapter pushes your back wheels forward by an inch, it might be good to err on the wider side.

    • @MarktheLandlockedSurfer
      @MarktheLandlockedSurfer  2 роки тому

      Hey, these are 70mm wheels as well. I would jackknife it (get the edge of the board bottoming out on the ground) well before getting near the wheel. So I think either way if you lean it that far you are in trouble. No issue with wheel bite generally unless I try to cut a turn that is way too tight.

    • @MarktheLandlockedSurfer
      @MarktheLandlockedSurfer  2 роки тому

      Hey! This was the first video I made on surfskating back over a year ago! I still like my longboard with waterborne surf and rail adapters for doing carves going down long hills or on really smooth flat surfaces like a tennis court. But I don't find them very efficient to pump because they have so much lean and because they add a lot of weight. If there are tricks to improve that I am afraid I haven't found them yet! YOW and Soothstar are my new favorites for all around performance.

    Props for the detailed review & rad surfskate clips. Got landlocked in TO this summer & fall and didn't get to go to SF for my usual surf sessions. I got a Penny Highline Surfskate from Surf Ontario in April and it is pretty sweet and kept me sane, it's better than a C7 Carver in my opinion. I received a Waterborne surf and rail adapter and a Landyachtz Dinghy Blunt as a gift. I haven't tried the Landyachtz yet in stock form but thought of installing the Waterborne on it. Should I proceed with the Landyachtz & Waterborne combo or replace the stock Penny Highline Waterborne setup with the Surf and Rail adapter? How's river surfing like compared to real surfing?

    • @MarktheLandlockedSurfer
      @MarktheLandlockedSurfer  3 роки тому

      Hey man, you probably know, but if not, it is Lake surfing season right now in TO, I am actually thinking of driving up to Sandbanks on Monday to surf if the wind forecast holds. Get yourself a wetsuit and get out there! I guess if you usually surf SF you probably already have a decent wetsuit! My understanding is that the Penny highline uses a Waterborne licensed adapter up front so I think you’d be better off installing on the Dinghy, which has a really nice shape for surfskating. Also, I have a review posted for the Bureo Ahi Surfskate on my channel, and one of the problems I found is the flexibility of the plastic prevents getting any pop for tricks that require an Ollie. Is it the same with the penny? If so, maybe another reason to have a maple deck surfskate option. Follow me on Instagram and we can get a session in next time I am headed to TO: @surfskateottawa

      @@MarktheLandlockedSurfer Thanks for the reply Mark, yeah, have heard about the surf scene in Lake Ontario and checked out how it looks like at Jack Darling in Port Credit a few years ago. My surf gear & Carver C7 is in my bro's place in SF, didn't even have summer clothes here at all during the lockdown, it's my first summer & fall here since 02. I rock a decent 4/3 when I surf, no booties or gloves, kinda draw the line there. The water does get cold in my local spot, Lindamar in Pacifica but not icy cold when I am there. Paddled out a few times in OB but it is too gnarly for me. I would check Santa Cruz once in a awhile if it is really good but mostly stay local. I am way older than you, so I just cruise on the Highline and do not do tricks at all. I snowboard during winter but with the hills shut down here, looks like I will be surfskating when it is possible. I will try the Waterborne on the Dinghy and see how it goes. @microchannel 3 роки тому +1

      @@sandralilamaya I tried the Waterborne Surf & Rail adapter and CX trucks on a Dinghy Blunt UV Sun & a Shape 9, with 130mm Bear trucks both are wider than the standard Dinghy. The Wateborne felt better in terms of being surfy, the CX is almost as good if you set it at the most loose setting but the lock nut on the trucks can disengage which happened to me. I have a C7 but never tried them on the Landyachtz. You are correct, the trucks & board width of the Dinghy is a bit narrow for a surfskate, I would suggest an ATV Ditch Life which is wider at 9.75 inches & has 155mm trucks. If you are set on the Dinghy, I would go for the Waterborne but will switch to 60mm wheels instead of the 63mm, it'll be a bit higher compared to the CX but more fun in my opinion.
