I have been watching as many of your videos as time permits since becoming obsessed with LOTR after reading only the first four books decades ago. I've ordered The Silmarillion and a few other books. I cannot bring myself to watch any of the youtube videos about the newly remade story where none of the characters resemble the original characters I have loved for decades. So it is always a joy to see you post new videos of LOTR history with imagery I can identify with. You explain the complicated history and genealogical family trees in a way that anyone can understand. Your speaking voice is perfect and conveys your passion for this remarkable life's work of Tolkien. Thank you so much for treating us with continued LOTR videos from time to time. Regarding the "rings of power" series, I tried it. I didn't last long. Luckily it can't ruin Tolkien for me though, because it's so badly different that my brain won't even allow me to connect the two.
Gotta love how dwarves, one of the smallest of fantasy races, are always shown to build giant-ass statues of themselves in their cities and fortresses. At least in movies and video games, not sure it´s ever explicitly mentioned in Tolkien´s books or other novel series

This might be a stupid question, but why didn´t the dwarves make their halls "dragon proof"? Dragons are huge, why not make the entry to their halls a narrow long tunnel?
To a certain extent, because that wouldn't have looked as pretty. They made sure to put the "art" in "artisan", and it'd be a shame to restrict what people would be able to see of their craft. Also, I'm pretty sure there _were_ lots of long, narrow tunnels, like what the Fellowship went through in Moria, but the Grand Halls were meant to be just that, Grand.
Because dragons just lays in wait outside blowing fire in till they’re killed or scared off. The more likely answer is a combination of they thought they were far enough off from the withered hearth as well as got greedy for bigger halls.
As far as depicted in the LOR movies, I dug Dwarf culture and design. Their cities.and royal places all.looked like “Runes of Power upon the door” to me, as mentioned in Gimli’s chant about “ Durin’s Day”. Strange folk, but fair, they’d devised a culture oriented from a stature shorter, maybe, than most other folk, but they understood power from a unique perspective, and were the Weapon Masters of. Middle Earth.
I like the art work of the balrog at 1:25. I'm not sure if it was AI or not, but it's a more interesting, different and still menacing representation of the balrog. I love John Howe, I love his Balrog artwork. I have his concept art for gandalf vs the balrog in two towers tattooed on my arm. But balrogs don't have wings. This shows the balrog can be look terrifying without looking like a pseudo dragon.
Hey I had a question that I thought might make for a good video. What would have happened if Faramir had gone to the council of Elrond and Boromir had stayed behind to protect Osgiliath? Would the fellowship still have broken at Amon Hen if Faramir had not tried to take the ring as his brother did? Would Osgiliath have been recaptured by the armies of Mordor if Boromir had been there to lead his people? Also, how would Aragorn’s feelings about his legacy as Isildur’s heir have differed without having Boromir to discuss it with? Would love to hear your thoughts.
The Fellowship was breaking reguardless. Boromir was only travelling with them as far as their road took them towards Gondor and then he was heading home. Aragorn was going with him but then Gandalf fell in Moria and buggered everyone's plans. They had finally reached the point that Boromir had to leave if he was to return to Minas Tirith so I think Faramir would have likely just gone back home and Aragorn would have tried to lead Frodo to Mordor. Of course, with Tolkien, Boromir trying to take the One helps to set up the One's destruction as the breaking of the Fellowship was vital for Gollum to play his part.
Man. I Wish the Hobbit movies had focused more on this aspect of home and finding a home. It was mentioned, but drowned out with All the other stuff in the movies. The problem with focusing on home is that it become more of a dwarf story and less of a Hobbit story which is not what the Book is telling, so The movies would need a new name and marketing which would be bad for business.

I think the meaning of the "Secret Fire" is pretty well understood, and "Flame of Anor" is rather less so. So, I think I'll be asking less about those two remarks themselves and more about his other demonstrations of fire. Since, almost all of Gandalf's power moments are either traditional fire or lightning (sky fire if you will lol), I wonder if all of that affinity came from Narya or if he instead was practiced with and comfortable with "fire magic" prior to his arrival in the Grey Havens.

OK... If Khazad-Dum fell _before_ Erebor was fully settled, how did Gimli not know about it, before heading toward the Mines of Moria? That crucial piece of info would have been passed down through at least three dwarf generations.
Balin led an attempt to retake Moria, and for a time seemed to be succeeding. What Gimli didn't know was that Balin's group were eventually defeated (though in the book Gimli was worried because no one had heard from Balin for a while).
So new question, did the dawrfs ever have a plan to retake Khazad dum from the Balrog? Even if it’s deep down and seems to be uninteresting in leaving it is still a Balrog and there had to been interest interest in dealing with it.
