You are a breath of fresh air! I always feel so guilty for buying too many books and not reading them fast enough/ not finishing them etc which is ridiculous as reading is meant to be fun, not flipping stressful!
I don't over do it with my Goodreads goal, I start out low and gradually make it higher throughout the year
"Release that pressure" is such real advice, the interwebs makes that you feel like you need to be reading all the time bc so many thangs are coming out and you feel like you want to support but I do want to read the books I have even the ones that have been here for years. I also think I shall read all the ones I own, oneeee day. Oh my gosh I remember when she said Life of Pi & giggled at your nod, such a moment! Love this corner so much by the way, you look so comfy, yay cute outfit!
I'm not sure if this is the "new" you, but I love that you're practically giddy with happiness -- it looks like you're in such a good place and it's an infectious attitude! I agree on the hating thing (so many things to love, who wants to spend time talking about anything else), but have to say that Life of Pi is one of my all-time favourite books and a distinctly memorable reading experience for me. So I'm pretty sure you were nodding to MO on my behalf, lol. And series are another of my favourite things, but I tend to only read ones that are complete or so long that my interest is waning by the time I'm up to date. Tags are so much fun! So glad that they're enjoying a resurgence. I might give this one a go in the near future! I'm with you on book series. I always feel like I HAVE to reread the previous book(s) in order to appreciate a new entry, and it takes me away from books that I just picked up and am excited to read. I've moved away from reading new series for that reason, but I'm completely fine with reading ones that have wrapped up. Also, I'm loving the Animal Crossing amiibo watching over your books. 😍

For me, whenever I get into a series, all of the books are usually already out 😂 I don’t know why I somehow don’t pick up new series it just happens. Gets rid of the stress of waiting for the next book at least!

I love your reading set up; the shelves and the lights are beautiful and the chair looks so comfy and zen. The last book I sobbed at was The Book Thief, I was sitting on my deck on a sunny day and got to one point that made me tear up and I put it down like "if I stop reading they can't die, this'll definitely change the outcome of the book". Man that book was so beautiful and powerful.

Damnn I relate so much with what u've said. This year I had the biggest reading slump everrr. The best thing I could have done was to simply embrace it. I was pressuring myself way too much to upload the status on all my readings on Goodreads, I was pressuring myself to read all these classics and hyped books that most people are reading, and I just got tired of it. I just stopped reading for a while until I really felt like reading something, now things are way better. Just embrace the slump guys, give it a little tap on the back, share a cup of coffee/tea and everything is gonna be fine 😂💙

The crying about books in public thing really got me. I remember when I was 15 and reading The Sorrows of Young Werther, I made the big mistake of taking the book to school with me to read between classes. Which ended with me being absolutely devastated by the ending, but not being able to go and cry because my French class was starting. So now I mostly just don't read in public. 😅
I love the way you're lounging in that chair bestowing wisdom about reading the way you want. Yes Queen! Also, I share your gripes about Life of Pi. It was required reading for me in 11th grade. I was the only person in that class who wasn't feeling it at all.

I have loved 3 series of books in my life. The three being Harry Potter, Series of Unfortunate Events, and The Princess Diaries series. Now I love them as rereads and whip through the books in a row but when they were coming out I think I just got lucky that these series kept my interest enough that it didn’t fall to the side and become the books that I pick up and put back down again 5 times. Also I love the Michelle Obama story- I thought your interview skills were superb.

Genuine question here: Could someone explain to me why lending books to other people is seen as such a terrible thing here?
I do get that you want to be protective of your books, but if someone you trust not to do terrible things to your property asks to borrow a book, what's the harm?
Personally, I've actually been known to actively suggest that someone borrow a book of mine if they seemed intrigued.
My local library is not at all well stocked, either, so I tend to get excited when someone wants to borrow a book because that means we'll get to discuss it together!
In my mind, sharing is caring - and if it adds to the whole experience, then that's even better!
Aside from graphic novels, every time I let someone borrow a book from me it gets stolen!! Even by teachers! I've lost quite a few favorites because of this. 😂
Hopefully it's because they loved it.
My thing is, is that when I lend my books to a friend that I trust them another friend that I'm not so sure about I can't really say no because, you know...
@@miless7428 This was a bit of an issue within my friend group about 10 years ago. I was very protective of my books and I had friends who often wanted to borrow them. The problem is they didn't take care of them. I had some friends who would eat as they read and leave crumbs in the book. It's one of my biggest pet peeves. It still is. Now if I said no to them, it would cause some kind of tension. Eventually, we talked it out but it caused a serious rift back in 7th grade.
There are a few books I own that I am a bit protective of. But even those I will lend out to people I trust. The other books on my shelves I just lend out to who is interested. I love to encourage reading and if I don’t get the book back that is not the biggest disaster. Maybe it’s getting read and loved instead of collecting dust on my shelves.
Actually most of the time I reread books that I love so I need to have them near and also I always annotes things in books so it feels too personal that people could read an underlined sentence about death or idk and be like "damn she relates to that" you know the kind of intimacy issues

Okay so I feel CALLED. TF. OUT. to your answer for question #3 LMAO. I was in a HUGE reading slump (new job, new schedule, etc.) I usually read anywhere from 5-8 books a month. I read like 2 books all summer. I wanted to get back into reading again and my way to do that is through comics and graphic novels so that answer is my life right now lol I currently have 20-30 graphic novels from the library but I don't really find it stressful, I feel like I'm in my happy place again!

Love this filming setup (and your outfit)! Unfortunately I'm still trapped in the mindset that if I'm over halfway through a book, I need to finish it. I don't know why! I know it makes no sense. Hopefully someday I will free my bedside table of all of the in-progress books I wanted to love but just didn't.

Totally agree with most of your points. Now point forcing yourself to read something you just dont want to! Re goodreads, I give myself a target I know I can reach but is a little challenge (1 book a month this year since I went off reading last year). I do try to reach it and will sometimes do this strategically by picking more easy reading if I am behind and something more heavy if I am ahead of myself/on target. But I think if your goal is to read like 100 books and you can only reach it by reading very short books then maybe you should decrease your target. It's not about the number!

Extra question concerning question 2: is there a book you've really not enjoyed at first but found yourself loving by the end? For me it was Brooklyn by Colm Toibin. For the first half I wasn't that into it but at a certain point it clicked for me and I loved it.

When I’m in a “reading slump” I tend to read a lot of manga
I don’t actually think reading slumps are a real thing I think it’s more like you go for a period of time not having interest in reading, which is normal for everything else in life, food for example sometimes I’m in the mood for Mexican sometimes Indian and people put some much pressure and guilt on themselves when there’s literal nothing wrong with it. And that makes me feel a bit sad actually 😂

The more I watch Ariel the more I think she would be incredible learning a signed language. She is always so expressive.
Considering goodreads challenges, I tend to read short stories and poetry books at the end of the year to catch up. I don't usually choose to read those kind of books so the challenge works as a motivation to choose something I wouldn't normally read.
