Small correction: Wind Waker Link _was_ destined to be the hero-- at least in retrospect. Since Skyward Sword establishes that whenever the Demon Tribe appears, the spirit of the hero will return to stop him. The main difference with Wind Waker is what the world itself believes. The people of the world are under the impression that the Hero of Time is a literal time-traveling hero that will return to save them from Ganon. This is what happens in the legend that begins the game. Ganon returns, and people expect the hero to save them, but he doesn't appear. And then throughout the game, there are namedrops of the Hero of Time, because everyone who is old enough still believe that the Hero of Time is a time traveler (Deku Tree, Jabun, King Daphnes, and I believe Ganondorf?) . Wind Waker Link has to prove himself as his own hero. He rises up to the occasion and proves himself, becoming the hero of Winds. People often misinterpret the story as Link not being a destined hero, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Link's shield was passed down through his family, implying that he's a descendant of the knights of Hyrule (a qualification for being a chosen hero, alongside possessing the spirit of the hero). That doesn't make it any less awesome though. Every Link has the capacity to fail, and Link, knowing nothing of prophecy or anything, set out to save his sister, became a legend, and ended up saving the Great Sea. Sorry for going off on a lore tangent, but I think Wind Waker's story is especially interesting with how it both differs AND goes along with other games' lore, so I thought I'd bring that up. Wind Waker HD was my first Zelda game, and I think it might be my favorite. It's a very special game, and even though others are much better games, something about Wind Waker just stands out to me. Glad you gave it another shot
to the point about Tetra: while it's disappointing to watch her design and agency slip away in the second half of the story, I argue that this is actually thematically relevant to the point Wind Waker is trying to make. the King, in his strict adherence to the Traditions and making Tetra fit into the mold of Zelda, chose to hide her in a classical fashion rather than letting her continue to evade detection on the sea as her good ol' Pirate self. and this was what enabled Ganondorf to steal her, and nearly bungled the whole plan. it's what makes him realize that it was not just Ganondorf clinging to "the old ways", but also himself. and this inspired him to his ultimate sacrifice and his wish for the future ...I can't help but love Wind Waker, I was Link's age when I first played it, and even as an adult, the Great Sea and the story told there are the most compelling in the entire franchise. I don't play this game to be challenged, I play this game to feel At Home.
Correction on the framerate: the game caps at 30, not 60. That being said, the hd version does have a lot of framerate issues that the original never did
Also worth noting: Most of those "Frame Rate Dips" are actually a game mechanic called "Hit-Stop". It's where the game freezes for a second after a big hit to help convey the power of the impact. It is a gimmick, however, and games made after 2005 pretty much just stopped using it altogether. Well, except Street Fighter. XD
@@HTMangaka im not referring to the hit stop, i mean actual framerate issues, which are most common when there's lots of particles on screen (ie, big gunboat fights at reefs for example)
While I enjoyed each of my 5 playthroughs of wind waker and have some first Zelda game bias. I haven't played it since 2008. Also the farther you get from this game, the more noticeable the areas of it being rushed are. And you'll see moments of that, scrapped mechanics, dungeons and islands that got lost in the deadlines. All behind the scenes development. Still what what they managed to do with Wind Waker as a package in spite of those cuts can show what Zelda can do.
I don’t know, on paper Wind Waker kinda struggles. Fewer dungeons that while consistent are kinda mediocre, lack of difficulty, and the triforce quest (I actually kinda enjoy it but I know most people don’t), BUT I adore this game and have it at the top of not just my Zelda list but my favorite games list. It just feels good to look at and play, the exploration is incredible, and the older I get the more I appreciate the nuance of the story and the direction the developers took the game. I really wish it hadn’t been rushed because it’s so good already but the amount of clearly missed potential is also painfully obvious I also think BotW makes me appreciate WW more because I’ve increasingly enjoyed games that focus on exploration and getting lost in the world rather than the dungeons that are priorities in other Zelda games. These days I don’t mind a short dungeon that isn’t super hard because I prefer spending that time just roaming the world and doing sidequests
I will say saying that having a boss and getting a new item. That just doesn't apply to Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom. You get litelrie everything you need at the start of the game
Now 100% Minish Cap and get even more mad about the time that fusing all the kinstones for sidequests and farming all the blue shells for the figurine collection takes..😅
i never get the "the boss are easy in wind waker" ... for me, MM OOT SS, all the boss in a zelda game are easy (TP for me is an exception for this haha)
I wouldn’t say that I hate the game but Wind Waker and Twilight Princess are my least favorite games in the series honestly. I like Wind Waker better however. I don’t know even why I don’t like those games. I just don’t care for them. All the other games I like better. Even Skyward Sword!
Playing through Twilight Princess for future videos and I won’t lie, it is REALLY hard to get into. Especially in the beginning when there’s about 2 hours pf downtime before you enter a dungeon. Second half is so much better imo but I know what you mean
I couldnt agree less tbh. I really like the endgame because it forces you to head out and explore the game, do what it wants you to do. The game suffers imo if you just run from main quest to main quest, and you'll get much more out of it exploring the side content
After the first temple and outset island the game feels like it was rushed and was not fleshed out. There is so much going on with those early islands. Then after that, a whole lot of nothing If they were do a remake, they better add a bunch. Most temples and bosses were forgettable as well. But it did have a great ganon fight
Dude your videos are so underrated I clicked on these videos thinking you had thousands of subs. Keep it up man it’ll happen soon

Windwaker is one of the many Zelda games I’ve yet to play, however, it’s definitely high on the list of which games I want to try first
Don't play the original

I loved WindWaker. The Zelda title I don’t care for is twilight princess, though it is adored by critics. I hate the art style and it aged poorly.

I unapologetically still hate this game. The triforce hunting killed the pacing for me.
