    There's a movie called "Not Without My Daughter", where an American woman married an Iranian man with dual citizenship, and they moved to Iran with their daughter and the first thing the husband does is destroys the passports and basically enslaves his wife and kid.
    Apparently, that's something that used to be more common a long time ago. So I don't know if I'd joke about that? Especially around American women.

      @Mishel Kamal My friend's sister married a Saudi business man and moved to Saudi Arabia with him, and whenever they get into an argument, the first thing he does is takes her passport with him when he leaves. So I know it's definitely a tactic some people use.

      I was in college at the time she would've been in Iran. The Ayatollah Khomeini had just taken over as Supreme Head of Iran after the Iran Revolution and the ousting of the Shah and his family. His family specifically wanted him to return because Iran was now a theocracy with an Islamic Sharia legal system. He told his wife it would be a two week vacation. She was suspicious before the trip. She tried to get him to go without her and the daughter, but he wanted his family to meet his wife and child. However, her gut feeling wasn't good. After being there for two weeks she packs her things for the return home, and then he tells her the truth. We're never going back. You will never see your family again. It was awful . She literally risked her life to escape.

    This poor woman is on sensory overload at her husbands home. It looks like she’s in literal pain in that entire scene. I can relate and understand how that can be. It’s pretty remarkable how out of her comfort zone she’s willing to go for her relationship.

When we stopped in Casablanca the guide let us know women were not to go into the businesses downtown. They drove us to a cafe just a few minutes away. I still think the Europeans waited, but since I was welcomed, I went in and it was so memorable. I only had a small glass of mint tea topped with pine nuts. The servers were men. I preferred the way they kept their eyes looking away from me; it was like having privacy. I could see the Mediterranean from where i was sitting. It was so peaceful. I might have been misreading the signals (without nervous Mahmoud there to tell me the truth) It’s a place I go mentally as a safe calm space when I need it. Nicole has placed herself in a situation that could have become very bad. We know it won’t because the camera crew is there but if they weren’t?
    I hope she realizes this isn’t love, you don’t have to change yourself and your ideas completely for love. He says he doesn’t want to change her but yes he does.
    My other thought and I mentioned this somewhere else it’s seems odd that such a strict traditional family two of the men married foreigners. Why didn’t they marry someone from their culture and beliefs? Is there something about this family that families there don’t want their daughters to marry into?
    The slacks she had on were not tight in the groin so there was no camel toe he simply wanted her groin area covered, he is extremely controlling.

    Something very strange about Nicole. It seems like she is running away from her old life in a small town and trying to reinvent herself to find a new identity. She wasn't satisified in LA so she thought why not a completely different culture across the world. She doesn't seem to take marriage, inter faith, inter cultural relationship seriously. She just thinks he will get over it...they will live happily ever after like a fairytale.
    Even marriages within the same faith, race and culture dont work out based on differing *values*
    Regardless of faith, her and Mahmoods values are inherently different and this is not going to change. The fights are not going to stop. Accept people/situations for what they are and learn when its not working. They both want to change each other and they are both inherently using each other.
    She wants to have a new fun exciting life without respecting the local culture and people.
    He wants a greencard without respecting his relationship with her.

    I saw the episode and she is crying in the toilet because miss American life and the lack of freedom and independence to roam away like in US and the gender interaction, she has fights with Mahmood due the cultural differences they have clashes. She feels losing control over her life and doesn´t like living with extended family she feels needs privacy and be alone with her husband enjoying each other company. But Egypt as India and Pakistan are collective people. I lived for 4 years with pakistani punjabi muslims adapted really well, and didn´t need go out with friends we had neighbours in the same block of flats in Spain and went to the houses of each other and the doors were open something unthinkable in a white local area without immigrants around; people keep privacy and you cannot enter unless you are invited on advance. Family are only nuclear parents grandparents and grandkids, uncle, aunts ,cousins live away and visit weekends or occasionally in european families.

  • @Lucinda_96
    @Lucinda_96 Рік тому

    I have very little sympathy for Nicole. She spent time in Egypt and yet she had no idea what it was going to be like after she got married? Like, do you not understand the types of human rights issues affecting people in the places you visit? Do you think you’re granted a free pass everywhere you go simply because you’re white? People need to be more socially responsible. But she has never had to be accountable for her actions since she could just float like the wind, so… its a hard adjustment indeed. That really is American culture though, having very little accountability because you owe nothing to no one. If there’s nothing wrong with that then there’s also nothing wrong with the opposite. 🤷🏻‍♀️

    Your his little captive bird and it won’t be long before he starts putting his hands on you ! Your lucky there’s a camera crew otherwise it probably would’ve already happened ! Run Nicole he and his family are incredibly creepy and women mean nothing to these people you are low on the food chain over there and he’s creepy ! I’m certainly not saying all Muslim’s treat their women like this but it’s definitely a fine line and be careful what ever happens don’t get pregnant by this guy otherwise your going to be miserable and lucky if you ever get Togo back home and see your family! Your life will never be yours again ! Be careful dear !
