One thing to be a bit wary of with the Kia MK3 and MK4 6 gear manual is that the Gear Selectors for 3/4/5&6 have had a tendancy to fail. There are Tabs on the Selector Rings that locate the Driving & Driven Gear parts and the Tabs on the Selectors can break off causing a Grinding noise. Happens around 70,000 miles. Costs in the region of £1,000 to have new Selectors (of improved design) installed - or a replacement Geabox. There is however a little bit of offset cost - as around 80,000 to 100,000 the car will prob need a new Clutch & Preasure plate and bearing / CSC which would cost a few £100's in Labour cost to replace. If doing the Selectors - it's worth doing the Clutch parts at the same time.
Another great review - thanks. I currently own a KIA Venga, and I'm impressed by the brand, especially in terms of low running costs, practicality and reliability. And should the clutch ever need to be replaced, on the Sportage and on the Venga there is no Dual Mass Flywheel (DFM) - thank goodness, because the cost of replacement of the clutch is only half that of a car with a DMF.
