Hey blackcarguru you should talk about the original Aluminum ZL-1 427 big block
    Chevrolet came out in 1969.
Also You can still build an all aluminum chevy 427.
An all Aluminum 496 stroker with a supercharger is Amazing.

An iron block LS actually weighs more than a big block. The LS is only lighter due to aluminum heads. Aluminum LS engines are obviously much lighter than both.

I used to work for a family that owned 3 grocery stores and they loved Drag Racing...
They gad a Sonama and a 68 Chevelle... The Chevelle was 5.9 in the 1/4 and at that time the sonoma was a 6.3.
I was close with the family they liked my torino.
But after a wedding we was drinking at the shop, the 400 sbc was pulled out. (Sonomas engine) And it needed rebuilt
So my ass sipping jack takes it apart, hones the block, instead of using that 400 sf crabk... I used the sf 265 crank, modified the oilers, used the dome top pistons, (truly i fucked compression) they had one turbo in the shop thry was going to put on the Chevelles big 496...
I attached it to the sonama and set the engine back in it and Lonnie (Old figure head for the family had watched this from his TV said nothing for 5 hours.
Came out as I'm putting it back in the truck.
Says " we aren't telling anyone shit, we just going ro run ut at Huntsville tonight."
    It pulled a 5.8 in the 1/4
I told him, still needs better tuning.
So we adjusted it Ronnie (oldest son, Donnie, and lynnie helped albeit upset that the turbo was used on that sonoma.)
After we dailed it in as much as we could that night, best pull was 5.5(which we couldn't replicate that weekend)
Track told them "You have to list that as promod."
But i was watching a civic with a 3 turbo setup stomp promods skinnies on the back and krinkles on the front.
I was saying "We'll go to Steele from now on" that honda was pulling alwicked numbers ..
had his computer set to stages...
Sound like a weed eater at line up then, jeystroke and if is chopping more than a master chef on meth and behind on minced Onion.
Daytona is where we made money on that Sonoma...
It made my ass enough money to buy and build the firebird i had outside the Torino...
I can work BBC(Big Block Chevy, get ya minds out the gutter) but a lot can ve done with a LS and cheaper.
Don't sleep on the LT 90's engines either, once you fix the optispark you can crank out numbers.
And if you run a NA BIg Block or NA small block, you can get a efi sniper to adjust fuel better. (750 cfm or bigger)
Never want to rebuild a quadrajet again though...
Things have gotten simpler over the years... But where i find old is better than new is Ford Modular (Cost point)
351w bored to 427 using a sf 289 crank, dome top pistons and running a turbo, with a 850 cfm (sniper attached) on a dual plane intake will cost less and beat modular ford engines.
But this is based on price... If you got money to burn and want that modular do so, but at price point 351w will cost less be more efficient

Yessir! Big Blocks make crazy torque. It’ll sling a 7000lb vehicle around like a rag doll. Can’t knock the LS it’s good for what it is but it doesn’t have the cool factor like a big block the deeper sound the rumble, etc.

Chevy big blocks leak oil like a mf and tolerances aren't that good unless you blueprint it. Fuel injected LS wins in hp per cube. No way to put it any other way. 2 NA engines, one big block, one LS, if they have the same displacement, LS walks all day.
