I’d been to Hillsborough and stood on the Leppings lane terrace about 2 months before the disaster when my team Manchester United played Sheffield Wednesday. We got directed to the corner pen, the one by the banked terrace in the corner, because the central tunnel was closed off. This was about 2.40-2.45pm. We were on a good run of form at the time and we always took a lot of fans to Hillsborough back then so we probably had about 15,000 at the game. You could see where problems could occur. On the day of the disaster me and my Dad were standing on the Stretford end, watching United getting beaten by Derby County, and we heard bits and pieces about some trouble at the Hillsborough semi final by people with little radios. It wasn’t until we were on our way home that things became clearer. I always remember my Dad saying “ I bet it’s overcrowding at that bloody end where we were “. I’ll always remember him saying that. There had been problems at the previous 3 semi finals at that ground as well. The 1988 semi final, Liverpool fans wrote to the FA complaining of overcrowding on the Leppings lane terrace. One bloke said his umbrella snapped in half because the overcrowding was that bad. It was a death trap and hadn’t had a valid safety certificate since 1979.

The most significant problems were 1. That dividing the stand into pens combined with the narrow tunnel and the fence at front, basically turned the pen into a death trap with little to no escape. 2. Look at every FA cup semifinal played at Hillsborough. For instance Coventry-Leeds 1987. That stand was far far beyond its actual capacity and should have been reduced or rebuilt. I have zero understanding for why the concept of standing terraces were at fault. You could technically achieve the same result in an elevator or a train just by having too many people in there. If you have a certain capacity with seats, you would get the exact same result by just having a standing terrace with the same capacity
Yeah, it was band from being used for like 6 years just before this disaster as it was unsafe, i think it was spurs who also had lots of injuries (luckily none fatal) at Hillsborough years before and it was notorious for being dangerous
The 2 central pens capacity was 2,200 when they actually held about 1,600. That end of the ground, the Leppings lane end, hadn’t had a valid safety certificate since 1979.
All seaters are safer. The capacity is reduced to the number of seats available. For example the Leppings Lane end supposedly (and I use that term very loosely because they didn't have a valid safety certificate after the pens were put in) had a capacity of 10,100 people. All seated it was 2,294.

The lack of police presence? The South Yorkshire police committed depraved indifference homocide and then tried to hide it for decades. Are you one of them? Your victim blaming just reveals how vile you are.
This bullsht about fans always causing trouble is one of the reasons why even more lives have been lost in football. Before Hillsborough, the Bradford City fire in 1985 saw people able (thank god) to get onto the pitch as there were no pens, but far more would’ve made for the pitch rather than the cramped and locked turnstiles at the back of the stand if it wasn’t expected that you’d get your skull cracked by a police baton and banned from football for life by going on the pitch. For too many years, fans were treated like animals and we constantly told police and politicians that it was making more problems than it was solving. Sticking us in cages and then blaming us for problems is classic police and political behaviour. No-one should ever go to a football game and lose their life. I remember watching this game live on tv and the cameras cut away as it soon became clear that what was happening was a horrible disaster. I know many Wednesday fans were very angry at the way their ground had been used and the crowd control had been such a disaster. Hillsborough was not safe for a large match of this type. The policing was a disaster from start to finish. None of this should’ve happened.
Until today I thought the catastrophe was due to the Liverpool supporters bad behaviour. I'm not a huge football fan. I watch the world cup when it's closing in towards the final. So I have not been following what happened. I've heard through the years from media that the blame was the Liverpool supporters. How can they do this to the victims? That's so evil.
@@jamesfletcher474 every sports fan isn't a hooligan and even hildren were killed. Just because one is passionate and exhibits a certain type of behaviour doesn't mean they deserve what happened here.

Good video and as detailed as you can be in 15 mins, thank you. However I’d like to ask you to change the thumbnail. It’s unnecessary and extremely upsetting for the survivors and families. JFT97
The photos of the crush is disturbing and I can only imagine what the journalist who took those photos was feeling at that very moment watching those people suffering and dying before his eyes. I can’t imagine being there and seeing than and not being able to help them. I have been to many concerts with festival “seating” which is no seating. I have been in small crushes where I was actually lifted off my feet and carried around by the many bodies pressed together. It was quite frightening not being in control of your own body. I remember pushing my way out slowly and thinking. It’s just not worth trying to get closer to the stage. There was a huge wall separating the crowd from the stage and when I see those photos of that crush it reminds me of what it Musi been like to be crushed up against that wall with nowhere to go. This was also back in the 80s during a particularly hot summer day. I made my way out and my friends looked at me and said “why are you all wet? Were they spraying water into the crowd or something?” I realized I wasn’t drenched with water but with the sweat of all those people.
@@Kate-lk6tw The football fans in Indonesia is more violent, similar to what happened in South America. Even so, certain incidents involving football fans have resulted in notable deaths during high-profile matches. The Persib vs Persija match looked this big example in our country when heightened football rivalry might result in unwanted consequences, as football fans between the two sides often clashed each other. And of course, the recent tragedy that saw 135 deaths after the game between Arema and Persebaya, although it was happened because of security mismanagement in terms of crowd control (the police deliberately fired tear gas against the crowd on the stands). As a result, the Indonesian FA had imposed a ban for all teams to have their fans presence during away games, which really affected the football a lot.
The authorities lied, but they also were set up for failure that day--and spectators set to lose their lives--due to an outdated facility and hooliganism that had marred prior contests.
Hooligans necessitated the fences so the authorities thought. Not coming in good time and not wanting to miss much of the match led to pushing and pressure outside the ground, (there may have also been some ticketless fans like when Liverpool went to Aston Villa on a previous occasion.) Fans usually (get away with pushing those in front to sometimes get friends in.) but never would have imagined that fellow Liverpool fans would die as a result! The police supervision was not as effective compared with previous years and they should have admitted so. Warning signs of overcrowding at the Leppings Lane end in previous years wasn't heeded! People became heroes helping rescue people after the calamity, it's a pity more people didn't (or were restricted from) preventing it in the first place!
Because people like you don’t stop talking about it because you don’t seem to understand the difference between the two tragedies, Heysel charged and imprisoned people for their actions and Hillsborough was covered up and an enquiry into the deaths of 97 people was ruled as unlawful yet nobody has ever been convicted or sentenced to prison? Do you understand now? Or maybe you just need to use Heysel for a cheap pop at Liverpool fans? Why don’t you mention Ibrox or Bolton v stoke? You have no interest in any of the disasters other than using it for your predictable posts
Go on a article about Heysel then and talk until your heart is content or do what other nobs like you do on Heysel articles and talk about hiilsborough?
I was there in the stands and saw it all happen watching the middle pens fill up to capacity duckinfield was to blame no major officer was ever charged Liverpool were also given the smaller end dispite being the team with the biggest fan base the way the police falsified the truth faked statement is beyond belief how can somebody cause so many deaths end up getting a full pension he should have been given a prison sentence if you agree let me know Ynwa 😢😢😢
RIP to the all Liverpool 96 fans I don't know why Liverpool was given that end in the first place even they had that end the year Before yet got bigger fan base than Forset no disrespect but facted. I've never got my head why they had cop.end home of Sheffield Wednesday insead 🤔???
It was down to geography; same reason Manchester United fans got that end v Derby in 1976; NW teams approach the Leppings Lane Eand first, Derby, Forest from the South.
But it is not the truth and that is why the people who have no idea about what happened are the most vocal critics? Can’t read the inquiry but can assume that they are the most knowledgeable? Sadly they have no clue
That's because you always play the victim card whenever anything goes wrong and nothing is ever you're supporters fault, the day they accept culpability for their actions at Heysel and Hillsborough maybe it will stop JFT39 ITALIANS
Funny thing is that you can’t stop mentioning it because it’s a very popular topic to begin accusing Liverpool fans and talking the Hillsborough disaster as a point scoring excuse to keep the club from being allowed to remember the tragedy, it’s strange how you have so much sympathy for Heysel yet never mention Ibrox or Bolton v stoke disaster? Not interested in any other club but love the opportunity to play the ‘what about Heysel’ card! Lazy and predictable as usual
@davidclarke6718 what victim card? The only one pulling out the old card is you “victim” and “never to blame” is the usual response from a hateful individual

You’ll Never Walk Alone from a Man Utd and Celtic fan❤
Until today I thought the catastrophe was due to the Liverpool supporters bad behaviour.
I'm not a huge football fan. I watch the world cup when it's closing in towards the final. So I have not been following what happened. I've heard through the years from media that the blame was the Liverpool supporters.
How can they do this to the victims? That's so evil.

Good video and as detailed as you can be in 15 mins, thank you. However I’d like to ask you to change the thumbnail. It’s unnecessary and extremely upsetting for the survivors and families. JFT97

The manu fan that mocked the 97 was shocking and im happy he got arrested
Nice one! Never Sub The Sun!
Great video

Football disaster in Indonesia is still worse than Heysel or Hillsborough, but I would accept those tragedies as the one that will never forget.
Why do you want to compare?
Can you do a video on the tragedy of gate 7 in 1981?

The authorities lied, but they also were set up for failure that day--and spectators set to lose their lives--due to an outdated facility and hooliganism that had marred prior contests.

R.I.P
Hooligans necessitated the fences so the authorities thought. Not coming in good time and not wanting to miss much of the match led to pushing and pressure outside the ground, (there may have also been some ticketless fans like when Liverpool went to Aston Villa on a previous occasion.)
Fans usually (get away with pushing those in front to sometimes get friends in.) but never would have imagined that fellow Liverpool fans would die as a result!

Another document about Hillsborough and Liverpool fans, why do we never talk about Heysel?
Who is ‘we’ because there are several documentaries on this platform about Heysel.
People do talk about Heysel there’s loads of videos on that. Go and find one shithead💩✌️
I am a RSB fan,but....YNWA❤

RIP to the all Liverpool 96 fans I don't know why Liverpool was given that end in the first place even they had that end the year Before yet got bigger fan base than Forset no disrespect but facted. I've never got my head why they had cop.end home of Sheffield Wednesday insead 🤔???
It was down to geography; same reason Manchester United fans got that end v Derby in 1976; NW teams approach the Leppings Lane Eand first, Derby, Forest from the South.
R.I.P 97 this was violent drunkens barging and pushing purposely and many didn’t have tickets and broke into the stadium
But it is not the truth and that is why the people who have no idea about what happened are the most vocal critics? Can’t read the inquiry but can assume that they are the most knowledgeable? Sadly they have no clue
And how would you know?? You weren’t there. Just another shit talking troll
We still get called the victim by scum football rivals
Just show their black heart....if they have any...
That's because you always play the victim card whenever anything goes wrong and nothing is ever you're supporters fault, the day they accept culpability for their actions at Heysel and Hillsborough maybe it will stop JFT39 ITALIANS

Funny how Liverpool never talk about heysel.
And that negates the impact of a tragedy like this ???
Funny thing is that you can’t stop mentioning it because it’s a very popular topic to begin accusing Liverpool fans and talking the Hillsborough disaster as a point scoring excuse to keep the club from being allowed to remember the tragedy, it’s strange how you have so much sympathy for Heysel yet never mention Ibrox or Bolton v stoke disaster? Not interested in any other club but love the opportunity to play the ‘what about Heysel’ card! Lazy and predictable as usual
@@jennydunn9014 your victim card doesn't work anymore. Most football fans know exactly who to blame for Hillsborough.
