- We continue our Introduction to Floral Carving series with Joe Meling. In this video, Joe will be demonstrating the Pear Shader. This tool will help start to bring in definition to the flowers and leaves on the carving. The leather Joe is using in the video is a 4/5 oz. Hermann Oak leather from our Journal Cover kit.

All I can say is "WOW!" Your work is so beautiful. Thank you for these tutorials. They are immensely helpful.
I've been watching your tutorials so far, nothibg short of excellent. Thank you so much.....!!
That was great. The techniques are priceless. I never planned on doing anything like this but now I'm interested. So eyeing a kinda scrap piece as I sit here. Please show everything in detail like this video. Thanks.
This is a master class!
Thank you, Scott!
You are excellent. Those flowers look real! Amazing!
I just found this video, thank you for making it and explaining what you're doing. It was very helpful to me, I am new to leather tooling.
Magnifique, quel merveilleux travail, vous êtes vraiment un artiste !!!
Je vous remercie!
You make it look so easy.
Whole bunch of good tips here.
beautiful flower, very nice artwork.
I just subscribed ! Fantastic pear shading , tooling music .Thank you !
Thank you very much!
Your video s is really impressive thank you
Always admire such/that Work! Still try getting clean swivel cuts as seen. Thanks for showing it‘s possible to craft outstanding artwork just by Hand 👍👍👍
Thank you for watching, Thomas!
Excellent demo and explanation on the use of a pear shader. Better lighting would add a lot to the quality of your videos.
Seems like the beginner kit should have included the steep beveler and the smaller pear shader, instead of the tools it did. Your work is very good and inspirational.
Really good advices but i agree that you should find a way to monitor what you're shooting to always stay into frame and maybe put an extra movable light .... apart of that, good video ;)
Hermoso trabajo muchas gracias por el PDF un abrazo
Is good!
I love how the first few people say they are the first one but in the end no one sees that comment and the people that do don’t care😶
DITTO!
Hahaha 👍
much prefer the shader to the leaf liner.
And I think the lighting is fine. Don't know what the heck people are referring to (in the comments below).
Weaver leather, I am getting an almost "black" color. Am I hitting too hard or is my moisture content wrong? How do I fix that problem?
Why won’t my pear shaper slide along the leather like yours? I’m just starting out and can’t figure out if I’m pressing too hard, not hard enough, or have my leather too wet. It looks like I’m tearing the leather instead of smoothly shaping it.
Hi there,
You'll want to make sure you're holding the stamp so it's not touching the leather unless you are tapping it with the maul. So it will hit the leather when you tap it and then lift back up off the leather and you slide your hand along, not slide the tool on the leather. This video shows more detail on what we are explaining and how to hold the tool, it uses a bevel but a pear shader would be the same concept.
