I am just barely sized out of the 157cm Transition Finder (max weight is 90kg, I am around 94kg w/ size 12 boot), and they just added the 160cm model. My question to you is this: if I have a dedicated powder board and I was looking to get a TF, do you think the 157cm would be okay even though I am barely out of spec? Or would you suggest I go with the new 160cm? I want the board to be nimble and quick, and the extra 1cm at the waist makes me worry about riding the 160 in moguls (I love riding moguls). Any thoughts you have would be appreciated. Thanks!
Thx for the comparison. Have you tried the korua pencil? If you have, what do you think about it and if you compare it with the nitro squash and the tranny finder which one do you think would work best for evereday riding and mostly riding in groomers?
Is the Korua TF and the Jones Stratos very similar? Looking to add to my quiver, a stable twin that's solid for carving and jumps.. the stratos would be my pow board on grromers and backcountry.
They do have a few similar features, but the Stratos is way quicker turning (as it has a regular waist width). The TF takes more work to turn it, can carve further over and floats well because of the extra volume. You can't go wrong with either, but there will be a bit of a learning curve getting the most out of the TF.

The Stratos is definitely versatile enough, it is just so nice outside of powder that I would put it as a "do everything" board, rather than just powder. The Hovercraft is a beast, and because it has been around so long occasionally really cheap second hand ones pop up, so it might be worth looking out for one, and just getting a Stratos as the main board.

I think it would be a board like the Nitro Banker. Good float without needing a crazy shape, quick to turn, good edge hold and fast. Nitro make a bunch of similar boards, so that could be swapped out with the woodcarver or mountain and be just as fun. Haven't been on either of those two brands yet. Occasionally would see some moss boards around in Canada, as well as some dupraz but they all seem quite niche.
Nice viedo! I got a question concerning the Nitro Squash. I want to get one but tested the 159 version on which I had no chance to controll it with my 140lbs. Would you think the 153 would be small enough for me to ride in tight trees and have a good controll while carving? As an alternative I would probably look into some volume shifted boards. Edit: Alternatives would be Rosignol Sushi, Jones Storm Wolf or maybe Nitro Pow
Thanks! Yeah I think you will notice a huge difference going from the 159 to the 153, it was like a completely different board for me. It has a nice narrow waist width, so tight trees and swapping edges is very quick and easy. I haven't ridden any of the other 3 you are looking at, but I would imagine that the wide width of them, it would slow down the edge to edge feel, but also give you tons of float - a bit of a tradeoff. I haven't tried those two Jones boards, but there is a chance I might be able to at some point this season. The Swift and Harpoon would be good options in powder (Swift being better with the stiffer tail), but it's just a preference thing for me where I wouldn't choose rocker between the feet as a top choice. I like the stability of camber in unpredictable conditions a bit more. That might change if I was able to ride one on a proper deep day, which hopefully I can get this season.
I have both of those boards. I enjoy the Storm Chaser here in Japan but not so much the Storm wolf which is stiff with little tortional flex for pow. It’s a better carver.

Nice boards. Wouldn't have labelled the TF as a pow board more all mountain + freestyle + carving but it seems to handle pow great, my friend has one and loves it. Out of all these I'm most interested to try the Squash. I think I am just lusting after a swallowtail :) My latest board which fits into this tapared pow board category is the K2 Excavator and it is phenomenal. Super fun charging and carving too.

You will be best off on the 163 - best for your weight range and boot size

The Stratos is versatile enough to be just a powder board. Just set your bindings back as far as they'll go for those deep deep days.

Did you have to set back your stance on your TF at all for pow? Or was their reg stance enough?
I actually set it forward a bit after a few deep pow days, the huge nose still gave me tons of float, but the longer tail helped that way.

Yeah pretty much, the shape/taper, camber and mid-stiff flex puts them both in the same category.

Yep definitely, I don't think there would really be any advantage at all going to the bigger one.
