ileana823100 a year ago i never thought i’d be crying with joy to see her place 7th at nationals, but the joy on her face and the passion in that last minute of her free skate made me so unbelievably happy. i’m so proud of her.
In this exhibition skate we see the Evgenia of 3 years ago. Relaxed, happy, no pressure, free to skate her own choreo. Her artistry talent still unmatched. Even her few jumps here perfect. She is still the CHAMPION! Why is Evgenia happy when she has reached the depth of failure in competition? Consider the 'square curve'. For 2 years won everything, 2 World titles in a row to break all records. Olympic Silver. Then drop straight line this year into no title, low rankings. Won 2 Worlds, then a no-show in the subsequent 2 Worlds. So why is Evgenia so apparently happy in this ex skate of RussNat where she hit #14 in the Short? Because she just found out she has grown up. She has tasted failure and discovered she can take it. It's a huge burden of FUD (fear uncertainty doubt) off her shoulder. So stressful this year. Only when one had big failures will big successes re-emerge. She now have half a year to focus, fix, learn, prepare for the next season. It has taken her this half season to appreciate the advise of Orser. But the Orser way is to be not his way. It's Evgenia way, the coaches to assist. Evgenia now has to figure out what is her way going forward. It a freedom she never enjoyed before. She now realize it will take one full year for her to cut off from the ways of Eteri. That she actually have the power to define herself as a figure skater. Clarity brings happiness.
Also, Brian mentioned smth. About being independent. And this is smth that can be observed among anyone coming from that part of the world. Evgeniya will eventually learn how to be independent. Hope all works out!
Totally agree; less migration in spins and recovering landings is aided by softer knees and firmer ankles from feeling passionate yet relaxed - low panic low stress but still being on top physical form and as prepared as possible- that state of being you cannot really teach (knowing when you are 'primed') but also comes with true love and emotional maturity but can be lost with over-pressuring a candidate. And it is so sad to see that loss of passion in someone still relatively young with such huge talent!!

The skater is the artist. Not the cameraman or the view mixer. The sooner the mixer shows the viewer a constant middle distant view of the artist giving context of flight speed, the artist will be showcased. The camera work was shit.
She just looks so happy. I am so happy as a fan to see her like this. This is worth more than any placement could ever be
