Cool to see you react to this 80's classic! Level 42 has awesome instrumentation. Definitely feel the 80's vibe, but still holds up fresh now. And props to having 2 vocalists on the track, Mark and Mike (falsetto parts), if you didn't notice. Definitely check out Lessons in Love by them.
Level 42 is one of my favorite bands from the 80s, and you are correct, they are a British band and this is their most successful hit. Please react to more from them. Thanks.
This specific type of music is called sophisti-pop. A popular genre in the 80’s from UK bands such as Sade, Go West, Swing Out Sister, Curiosity Killed the Cat, Spandau Ballet, Kajagoogoo, Pet Shop Boys, and a handful of others. This album is perfection btw. Definitely give it a listen.
No problem Jack! I'm glad you enjoyed it. It's my favorite pop song of all time, and you've only scratched the surface with them. Level 42 is an incredibly versatile band that started out doing instrumental jazz-funk in the early '80s (they formed in 1980), R&B/pop in the mid-80's, and some pop/rock in the late '80s to early '90s. Their live performances are just incredible. Some other great tracks of theirs are "Love Games," "Weave Your Spell," "Lessons in Love," "The Sun Goes Down (Living it Up)," "Out of sight, out of mind," "Children Say," "Hot Water," "It's Over," "Leaving me Now," and so much more.
Yes please, do more 80s pop and rock. That era has the best music then and even more so now. I’d even stretch it to the 90s and early 2000 and that’s where it all goes downhill for me! I really like your reactions to these older songs Jack. You have such great musical knowledge and are very respectful of the artists and musicians and are very aware of how classic and iconic these songs are. 🙏🏽
One of my favorite groups from my youth! This is a great rabbit hole to go down!! Deep and great songs! Lessons in love, Running in the Family, Love Games, It’s Over, Children Say. All songs to check out from my boys Level 42
Omg I totally forgot about this song!!!! I remember it playing a lot when I was a kid in the 80’s. And every once in a while you would hear it at the grocery store or department store in the 90’s. Good pick!!!!❤
Omg ... You reacted to my favorite Level 42 song. I love the 80s era especially Duran Duran! I was in high school during the British Invasion (this is what we call it today & it's meant in a great way). Thanks for reacting to this song. 🤗🤗🤗
Their song "Childen Say" is an excellent one! The lead singer, Mark King is a top notch bassist, has played with Ringo Star All Star Band and other rock legends. He is known for his slap bass styling. Hope you check out more of their songs!
I love this song! I hadn't heard it in years until like 10 years ago and the joy I felt hearing it before leaving the car for a night of dancing was such a highlight of that night!
I was in high school from 1981 to 1985. Best of times!!! British invasion, synth pop etc. And my college years too like bands like yaz and duran duran. Best ever!!
This was my high school soundtrack. This was everywhere in the 80s and i have nostalgia. I entered college in 1985. So i think maybe college? This was everywhere!!!!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
"Something About You" was actually from the band's fifth album World Machine. Their other big hit "Lessons in Love" was on their next album Running in the Family.
I first heard the Anthony David cover of this years ago but since seeking out the original I listen to it more lol. "Something About You" is a single from Level 42's sixth album World Machine (1985); it peaked at #6 on the UK Singles Chart, #7 on the Hot 100, and #4 on the Billboard Dance Club Songs chart.
Please more 80`s songs! Level 42 has a lot of good music with a variety of styles with groove bass. Check it out : Love Games, Starchild, Children say, Live it up, Kansas City Milkman etc... Cheers from Brazil
Level 42 is nothing like Depeche Mode (electronic pop!) and certainly nothing like East-European or German bands. :) Level 42 is way more funky and jazzy and not as corny as the Easter European bands. Don't forget in the 90's the wall was still up and music from behind the wall was millions years behind. I think Level 42 is more in the same category as Simply Red although they are more soul. Listen to Love Games from Level 42, my favorite! Mark King (lead singer) is one of the best bass players ever! LJ
@@gabrielmcdonnell8699 Maybe :) The lyrics that DM used were a little darker for sure, while Level42 was more nostalgic or recovering from a broken heart. LJ
Brian Ferry - Kiss & tell good tune. He also has many other songs. Also Level 42 Something about extended version is much better. react to them please. Also Depeche Mode -Strangelove "88 (Official Video) A MUST ! react

One of my favorites! Lyrics and harmonies are amazing. Level 42 is an underrated group for sure...Lessons in Love is nice too
This song doesn’t take me back as I’m still playing it regularly here and now...and will for the next 40 years. A classic!

Love all those bands; had their CDs. Would be a great rabbit hole for Jack to go down. I’d incl Style Council as well as guilty pleasure, Breathe. ☺️
I would also throw ABC into that category as well.
I thought ABC and Kajagoogoo were New Romantic. I guess there was a lot of overlap. When I was younger I would’ve just called all that stuff New Wave.
The production on this song sounds very modern, even though it's over 40+ years old. 🔥
1986, so not quite 40 years.
@@jediwalker2010 Details... Details... 😌
Somehow this song always takes me back to the 80s everytime I hear it. Absolutely amazing song
Holy fuck 😊😊. Let's go Jack Jack!!!! We definitely requested this on 80s night. It's mandatory. And the guitar 🎸 solo? Chefs kiss
Thank you AllenCarterComix for the request!!!

excellent choice @AllenCarterComix ! Loved your react Jack. This is an absolute favourite of mine.
Great song request. This band is soo great! Lessons in love and Running in the Family are pretty funky tracks too.
Yes to EVERYTHING Level 42!!! They are a fire band and will always remind me of my mama because they are one of her favorites! ❤❤❤

Actually I think the original "British Invasion" we had was around 1963 with the Beatles and the Stones.
Me too! 1981-1985
The bass part alone of this song really wonderful. Hundreds of covers of it solo all over UA-cam. Worth a listen.
Their song "Childen Say" is an excellent one! The lead singer, Mark King is a top notch bassist, has played with Ringo Star All Star Band and other rock legends. He is known for his slap bass styling. Hope you check out more of their songs!
Always was a fan of their first album "Level 42" from 1981. Featuring "Love Games" and "Starchild" :)
Always loved this song from Level 42 from mid-Eighties! Still have this on cassette mix!
Overtime, Lessons in Love,World Machine, are few from this excellent group!!
Great reaction. Lessons in Love by Level 42 is also a jam.
This song is one of my favorites from the sophisti-pop in the 80s.
The vocals are great, the melodies are wonderful.
This song was/is my ISH!!!
My favorite song of all time. ❤

Yep 80s funk pop love level 42 baseline that is all 😊
Level 42 came out of jazz funk and had some pop hits like this. Good musicians!
Oh yeah, 80s classic.
I listen to Pandora while at work, mostly 80's pop. I hear this song a lot! I love it! 🔥🔥
My college roommate wore this damn song out. I'm having flashbacks! 😂 It held up well over time and there have been a few remakes.
This was from the Running In The Family album. A lot of good cuts.
"Something About You" was actually from the band's fifth album World Machine. Their other big hit "Lessons in Love" was on their next album Running in the Family.
Y'all be coming Thur with theses requests lately 😂😂😂 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 OMG amazing much love ❤❤❤❤
One of my faves Anthony David did the song also he did very well
LOVE AD’s cover of “Something About You”! 👏🏾
Culture Club please
I’ve always liked this one. It’s still on my playlist.
Yesssss one of my favorite 80’s jams
You should definitely give Lessons In Love a listen. This one's great but that's their masterpiece.
8th Grade memories. “Lessons In Love” was just as good. 🇬🇧👏🏾
1st grade memories over here🥹
@@jediwalker2010 You have a good memory. I looked at a list of hits from 1978 (when I was in 1st Grade) and I _didnt_ know the majority. ☺️

a song equivalent to this song (in my opinion) is their 1991 song "A Kinder Eye". serious stadium anthem vibes with that one.
The soundtrack of the 80s.
Level 2.... I love this group!!!
Nice little 80's jam
@Jackreacts - If you liked this , you will love : Lessons in love.

Marc King the leader of this band and the lead vocalist , is also one of the best bass players ever. They're from Australia.
