One of my all time favorite songs. Level 42 has a great sound and of course Mark King is amazing. Watch a video of a live performance and you'll see him singing, playing bass and chewing gum all at the same time.
Great deep rabbit hole! Yes they are British! “Lessons in love” is the next song to check out. One off their first album, “Love Games” is very Jaz funk.
Yes, they’re British. The blonde guy, Mark King, is the main vocalist and also the bass player. Funnily enough, he does play with the bass high, on a short strap, just like you were doing! The higher register vocals come from Mike Lindup, the other guy pictured in the middle of the group shots, who also played keyboards.
Hi!! Other Level 42 classics are Lessons in Love, Running in the Family, Children say and Leaving me now. This was one of my fav bands of the 80's. Best regards from Chile!!! 🙂
These four members of Level 42 were a magical combination of talent and drive. Mike Lindup is an outstanding keyboardist who is an incredible sound designer and sings those high parts masterfully. Boon (RIP) was a versatile guitarist who wrote deep lyrics. Phil Gould is a groove master with everything to say musically.
Yeah, my gf back in the 80's took me to a Tina Turner concert which L42 was the opener and been a huge fan of them ever since! The lead vocalist is also one of the funkiest bassists on earth as a bonus! Good stuff guys.
One of the best bands of the time. I loved their funk - the lead singer is a very well known bass player and gave such a wonderful depth to the songs. I adore this song so much. We were so lucky growing up with class music like this. Can I recommend a band called Simple Minds? They had huge hits, but I love ‘And The Band Played On’ which is less well known but is brilliant.
Please do running in the family next. You have to check a vid to see mark playing his bass. Mike lindup on the keys takes the higher register cause mark can't.
Lucky so and so 😂 I've just looked up to see if I can see them, I'm 42 never seen them and my 16 year old daughter really wants to see them. Hope they come up to Scotland soon. I've slept on them for well too long.
The finest, most underrated band ever....staggering talent, incredible songs and still touring 44 years later!!
I agree!

Really good analysis and reaction. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
Saw level 42 three times in 80s
Go see them now. They are still touring

Level 42 is a reference to Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy.
You realize he sings and plays the bass...respect because that isn't easy.. they are simply the best and the 80s were magic
You are right Mary, the 80's was the best music ever produced and based on the late 70's disco, it never really died :)

They are English. , not British, And yes it does matter, and yes there is a difference . Geography of UK. Familiarise please
Mark King is one of the if not the best slap bass players on the planet with a golden voice.
Mark King and Les Claypol from Primus (don't know if I spelled his name right lol)
@@KatherineSkullr Thank you Katherine you're right. I am on a journey down the Primus rabbit hole. Enjoying every single minute.

running in the family was my fave of theirs
The lead singer is also the base player. He was the first to use slap base in pop and liked it because he started off as a drummer.
i am old and had this on cassette tape lol
Vinyl for me. ❤
It's all about the Bass, no Treble. Mark King's iconic Bass plucking will stand out forever. (Correction, slapping, not plucking, thanks ianlove1215)
Think there’s a song about that
I love level 42
He also plays bass slap style, hitting the strings with his thumb to produce a more funk sound.

UK #1
USA #2.
Pretty much every iconic band is British.
Don’t believe me? Look it up.
I love this song! ❤️❤️
This came out when i was in junior high and i was obsessed with it for quite awhile and still love it.

If you like this, then try Love Games by Level 42
The song World Machine is awesome if you like bass!
Watch this band play this song live, crazy good!!
I actually think the live is far better
You can see the talent unfold right in front of you
here are a few more by them not mentioned below....The Chinese Way.....Living It Up..... Hot Water
Yep, British. hot water (song) was cool too. And I love funky bass guitars.
Please do running in the family next.
