I’m a new subscriber, been binge watching all the older video. I love your content, Brooks smiling voice and Gary’s calm demeanor and the beautiful ocean.
Hey there :) Welcome aboard and thanks for coming along with us on this journey!
Thank you! :)
It’s like living in Jimmy Buffet land
These 2 are awesome!
Me too
🐌 ….you made it!!! No wind, too much wind or head wind. That’s what it’s all about ⛵️. Can’t wait for you guys to show us the Cook Islands.
I think we could have walked there faster 🤣Hope you are doing great! 💙
@@SailingOneLife you need longer legs to do that 😂😂
@@ashleywynn4923 😅😅
living that slow sailing life. thank god for the whisker pole.
Whisker Pole always sounds to me like the male version of a Whisker Biscuit. Guess I am still rather juvenile.
🤣
So thankful for the pole!
As a solo sailer to be I really like the way your boat is laid out. The furling sails, the cutter rig, the on deck dock box, and the center cockpit that makes it hard for a kraken to sneak up behind you while becalmed and snatch you out of the boat! Lol
Thanks, Gary! We really like the way she is laid out, too. Very easy to maneuver around and adjust sails with a short handed crew.
@@SailingOneLife Maybe think about getting a crew with longer hands? ;-)
What adventure! You two are the real deal. Thanks again for sharing
Aw, thanks! We appreciate you coming along with us!
I enjoy your channel and how your based in realism. Might I say, you both and a handful of other sailing channels are the true reality shows. The exuberant amazement and joys, as well as, the cautions and fears you express are all based in facts. You guys are happy sailors and a wonderful couple. Keep up the adventures and great team work. Jim Rodgers
Thank you so much for such a nice comment! We are happy you are enjoying our channel and appreciate you coming along with us!
I've been following you two since you left Florida way back when. I must say, and I know you're further along than this location but, this video was a very top notch production ! The lack of wind, the drifting, the boredom, the everything.......you captured it in the video. What an adventure ! Thank you for your video and editing and sailing work and thank you very much for sharing ! Exquisite !
Thank you for coming along with us all this way! We are happy to hear you enjoyed this one. It was a bit slower paced but it shows are experience as it was....slow and boring! Cheers! 💙
Being becalmed really does look hypnotic. A master class in peacefully letting go... Zen exercise. I'm jealous, even of that experience, which might drive some people nutty. :)😊
Thanks, Larry! It's a hypnosis we have come to love. Just go with the flow!
Gary is always so calm! Great drone shots in this video! Thank you for another fun episode.
He is always cool, calm and collected. I'm always the anxious one! We balance each other well. 💙
Yay, you're back - great video. Love watching your journey - you are my favourite sailing channel and it was a nice Mother's Day surprise to wake up to a new video from you!
Ah, thank you! Happy mother's day! Glad we could share the day with you! 💙
More amazing drone shots! Another awesome episode guys! Love it!
Thanks, Hannah!! Hope Oz is treating you well!
In air on way home from a quick Mexi weekender and watching your video. How it all began so many years ago. Hugs and love to you and Gary. Best,
Hey Obie and Laurie!! Thank you!! 🥰🥰We saw all the yummy food you were posting on IG and it made us miss our Mexico days!! Love you guys!
Ohooo, I want to see the cook islands! This is good, thank you! /Catta from Sweden
Hi Catta! Thanks for coming along with us out here all the way from Sweden!
Outstanding! That cut was crazy! Reminded me of Whale Cay Cut in the Abacos. A bit frisky on a good day. Safe passage. 🙂🙏
It was the craziest cut we've been through! Thanks for the good vibes! :)
Kia Orana my friends and welcome to the Cook Islands! It is my most favourite place on Earth. The beauty is almost too much and the true friendliness of the Cook Islanders takes your breath away. I will give you a word of warning though - the Cook Islands and its people will get in your soul. It is heartbreaking to have to leave and you will yearn to return. The Cook Islands really are ‘a little Paradise’ ❤😊🇨🇰🇨🇰🇨🇰 so glad you made it safe and sound ❤
Ah thank you! Unfortunately we just stopped at Suwarrow so we didn't get the full Cook Island vibes! Maybe next time we will visit Rarotonga and some of the others! 💙
drone long shot really show how small and significant you are at times. WOW! love the episode!
Wild, isn't it?? We loved the drone footage in this one too! Thanks, Jerry!
Happy to see One Life today. Wow, what a slow sail, but you made i! Can't wait to see your adventures in the Cook Islands. Thanks for sharing. ♥
Thanks, Lois! We have been a bit busy and not able to edit/upload videos as much as we have wanted but hope to get back to regular posting soon! 💙
How awesome. I love how you said how cool to be here while looking at a map and then actually make it happen. 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙏🏻👍🏻amazing❤️
Hey Jorge! Yeah, it's crazy to actually come to the places we have been dreaming about for so long! I'll just keep dreaming and looking at the map and one day hopefully we will get to those places too!
Hey guys, great to see your arrival at the Cook Islands for a few days of rest, relaxation and exploration. The water is beautiful and I bet snorkeling is premium too. Have fun, be safe, and enjoy life aboard One Life. Cheers 👏🏻🥂
Thanks, Trent! Yes, we enjoyed a real treat snorkeling here and we can't wait to share the footage in the next episode. We hope you are doing great and the weather is warming up for you! 💙
What a great place. And the only boat there. I'll bet the ranger enjoys the company and conversation too...
Such a cool place! The rangers definitely like when sailboats come by so they can chat and bring some goodies!
Absolutely fantastic video, giving us a time lapse of life on board in the middle of the Pacific. Your drone shots really give us a perspective of the vastness of the millions of square miles of water surrounding your boat. Finally Land Ho, thank you so much for taking us along.
Hey Bob! Happy to hear you enjoyed this video. It is really pretty crazy to think about how far we are from society/land at some points during our travels. Thanks for coming along with us!
Of course, another very groovy episode. I love your story tell. The filming and sound is lovely. And you two are so groovy and cute.
Thank you! 🥰💙🌍💃
Patience! You need to have patience , where is no rush!
Great video into the real world of sailing 👍🥰🏴
Patience is key! Glad you enjoyed this video, thank you! 🥰
Cant wait to get out there!!! Hopefully see you guys!
We hope to see you out here one day!
Out of all the sailing videos that I watch, I love looking through your dodger the most. There is just enough fabric for the bars and the zippers, and that is it.
Thanks, John! We are pretty fond of all the visibility as well!
I've been watching some of your early videos the past few weeks. You guys have come a long way. Awesome.
We appreciate you going back and watching some of our earlier videos. We also believe we have come a long way both literally and figuratively. Thank you very much!
So interesting to see the realities of sailing long distances!
Hallelujah your back! You have been missed much. Praying you both are okay. GOD Bless!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed this video! 💙
G'day Brooke and Gary! Thanks for yet another great episode guy's and thanks for bringing me along with you on this epic adventure of yours ! I can not wait to see what you get up to there! Hope you both are safe and well!? Much love guy's!!

25;12 great edit!
always enjoy the passage videos the most for some reason.

Thanks, Dave! We love editing the passage videos too, good to hear you enjoy those the most! :)
Awesome video, thank you very much. Be safe out there.
Thanks, Gibb! Hope you are doing well our friend! 💙
@@SailingOneLife I am, lol I went for a three day sail.. I figured out that once I could no longer see land and all that was around me was a vast open expanse of "NOTHING".. that I do not belong on the open ocean. I never got seasick, even though we hit about 3 hours of 20 foot seas, but the desolation darn near drove me nuts. So .. my thoughts of getting a boat and sailing to Japan are forever in the land of the myth and legend. lol
Ah so cool you went out on a sail! Glad you got out there and it's awesome that you didn't get sick in those conditions! The desolation and vast expanse grow on ya after awhile 😂. Sending hugs your way!
You both are amazing sailors, congratulations!
Thank you, Federico! We really appreciate it!
Fantastic, thanks for sharing.
Thanks, Andre! Hope you had a good weekend!
Very cool 👊🏻👏🏻
Thanks, Sean!
Great video!
Thank you! :)
Looking forward to some great footage from the Cook Islands.
Welcome back, 25:31 awesome video very nice.👍
Thank you :) Happy to know you enjoyed this one!
I can see now why there was a bit of a delay in getting this next video out... Lots of time to reflect while on a slow sail, but not really a lot to film! lol I guess a slow sail is better than battling rough seas for 700 miles though. Looking forward to the next one and seeing some of the snorkeling adventures in the park, I imagine with all the protections in place, the sea life will be extraordinary.
Yes, we would much rather have a slow easy going sail then bashing into heavy weather for days! There was a delay in getting the video out but just because we have been busy! 😅Hope to have another episode out soon, we have some pretty sweet underwater footage in the next one!
Hello! In Suwarow you need to mention TOM NEAL! Read his book : “an island for oneself”
Hello :) We did read his book and we will show you a bit more of the island and some of things remaining from his time there in our next episode!
Hello Brooke and Gary. Nice to see your newest episode. ❤❤
Hey Bob! Hope you are doing great! 💙💙
Wow Sailor great episode ❤
Thank you! 💙
Thank you!
And thank you for coming along with us, Rick!
What a cool anchorage!!
Yeah such a wild place!
You're living your best life 😎 Love the vlogs
Thank you! Happy to hear you are enjoying them!
Enjoyed this episode, especially the “trance effects “. Glad y’all made it to the Cook Islands. Lots of Survivor seasons filmed there, I’m guessing they paid a lot in permit fees.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed this one! We didn't realize Survivor was filmed in the Cooks! Very cool.
I've been waiting for someone to stop by Suwarrow for a first hand report on where "The Hermit of Suvarov Tom Neil' lived - a fascinating story.
Tom Neil is certainly and interesting guy! In our next episode we will show some of what is left of his living set up.
Ohhh to live your lifestyle.
💙💙
Awesome, the Cook Islands! I wonder if you head south to Rartonga? I guess we'll see 🙂
Stay tuned! 😜
11:06 that enclosure almost serves like a pilot house🎉
It is SO nice! We are so happy we decided to go with the full enclosure and lots of visibility for the dodger.
Love the OCSC shirt!! Love from Tampa!
Right on!! Love reppin' OC!
Guessing its better to be ready and wait for better weather, than wake up and find out next weeks sail happens today or not for a few weeks! Glad the pass worked out. Thanks for capturing and sharing another amazing location!! Onward .. EVER so slowly. Its cool to think about what a small percentage of the population even knows about, much less gets to experience the places you've been!
Hey Matt! I had no idea Suwarrow even existed before we started sailing. I feel so privileged to have stepped on this island and experience such a fascinating place. Thanks for cheering us on the entire way! You da best!
Your new camera is a beauty! Great stuff.
Thanks, Dave! Glad you are enjoying the footage!
🎉🎉 you made it. I expect fantastic nature of Cook isln.
We are preparing circumnavigation with our jeaneau440 yacht. Your sharing is very hepful. Thank you~
Another awesome video Gary & Brooke!
Bravo! 👏👏👏👏👏👏
Thank you! We are happy to know you enjoyed this one! 💙
Buen viento y buena Mar amigos!
Muchas gracias! 💙🌎
Very professional! =]
😅😅
❤❤
Thanks for the love! 💙
Hey, for when you are becalmed, get 2 really long oars and a drum so you 2 can take turns rowing and beating the drum and/or a long rope with a harness so you can take turns swimming and towing the boat. 🙂 You smiled, didn't you?
Haha rowing sounds like a good job for Gary 🤣 I'll do the drumming
Damn....I have missed you guys!!
Leaving the island....pucker factor!! LOL
Seemed like a droleful trip to the Cooks.
I hope to meet you guys 1 day....I'm buyin......feel as though I know you, but I am just a dude on UA-cam to you...
Be safe, have fun, I am jealouus as you travel on the other side of earth!
Hey Tom! Its funny because we feel like we know some of you guys, too! Thanks for always taking the time to comment and come along with us out here! We've been pretty busy lately but hope to get back on schedule with our videos soon! Hope we can catch up for drinks one day :)
I have this crazy obsession of putting these really out there places on my google map, and I mark them. I see about three Islands which are part of the Cook Islands but no of them are called Soro. Maybe I'm spelling it incorrectly ? Can you help ? Mike (I do see a Station de Copra ?) The answer was the sign on the island. Suwarrow, Cook Islands. I was even able to find those buildings on Neg Island.
Ahh sorry we will make sure it's clearly written on the screen in the next video... The atoll is spelled Suwarrow 🤣
14:43 Time to start pushing the horses overboard.
😅 start rowing!
GEEZZ!! Water World
Ha similar!
Only seems like yesterday when you were fixing your rudder
Crazy that was a year ago!
That would be brutal (for me anyway). No way to keep meats frozen.. Yeah,,, my six months would have ended after the last package had thawed...
Ha, yeah luckily they are good at catching fish and have a nice little boat to get around in.
Thank you. We enjoyed your video and are about to leave Bora. One question : do we need new Zélande dollars in cash for suwarrow? I guess there are no atm! Best. Xavier
Awesome! We weren't able to get NZ dollars in Bora so we took out some US cash and the rangers gladly accepted that ....they accepted USD in Tonga as well if your heading that way.
🙏🏻⛵🐬...
Thanks, Smee! 💙💙
Wow, that looks scary. Are you coming to Australia? If so where?
We plan on coming to Australia for next cyclone season. Not sure where yet!
Brooke, please tell me something. Just after you put the zipper down in the window of the cockpit. Something crept interview and was in the scene for maybe a second or so. It looked like some old toes that had great big long nails on them and I just kept replaying it and replaying it to try to figure out what the heck it was. Will somebody or will you please tell me what it was thanks.
Haha what?! Can you tell me at what minute mark? I just replayed that segment but didn't see anything weird.
I have read that as of 2023, the rangers are no longer customs officials, and check in must occur on one of the main Cook islands? Or just to visit require permission along with permits from a main Cook Island given to the park authorities before being permitted to land?
As long as you get prior approval from the Customs officials in Rarotonga you can make landfall and do customs paperwork in Suwarrow.
@@SailingOneLife Have you had a chance to read Tom Neale’s “An island to oneself”?
@@bojangles8837 Yes! Such a great read. Fascinating story!
🧿👍
Thank you! 💙
Have you thought or reviewed electric engines, I know the refit is extensive
As demonstrated in this vlog, They sometimes use their engine for more than an hour at a time.
In our opinion, electric engines aren't practical for long distance cruisers. Like Captain Jim mentioned, we often need to run our engine for hours at a time to beat weather or power through a cut. When we transited the Panama Canal we had to motor for 8 hour days and maintain a speed of 6 knots. Maybe one day an electric engine will be up for the job but they aren't quite there yet.
Dude you have one awesome/ beautiful wife
aw thank you, John! ~ Brooke
How long can you stay there? I would stay as long as possible.
Unfortunately they limit our time there to only 10 days.
@@SailingOneLife You would thing they would like more company.
At some point, you start rowing...
That's Gary's job🤣🤣
No stepping foot on any of the outer islands ? What ??
Unfortunately, they are all protected by the National Park.
Interesting... so no one gets to enjoy the land there... hmmm...
You are only allowed to enjoy the portion the rangers live on, which has a nice beach area and a little walk to the other side of the lagoon. It's an interesting place for sure.
Any idea what the reasoning for no scuba allowed but yet snorkeling-free diving is OK?
We believe it is due to safety concerns since it is so remote and no way to get any assistance if something were to go wrong but that is just our assumption.
@@SailingOneLife if that is the rationale wouldn't that apply to a lot of FP too? 🤣🤣 rules are rules, I just assume there are certain risks in remote locations cruisers go. And you ultimately have to be OK with accepting that risk.
--Governments don't have to make sense. Many sailors suffered senseless hardship and expense because of cov-ideocracy, for example. Or Prohibition.
with all respect : Brooke you look so good on your bikini’s 👙
aw, thank you!🥰
OK I know for purposes of UA-cam guidelines you have to wear clothes. I seriously hope when the cameras are off y'all running around naked when you are isolated. I sure would be! You only live once.
haha that's right....One Life 🥰💙
