Today: Germany sends dozens of warships amid rising tensions in South China Sea to support allies.
A German warship, the Frankfurt am Main, and a frigate, the Baden-Wuerttemberg, have set sail from Europe for Asia. In reaction to China's aggressive behavior in the South China Sea, Germany is sending vessels to show its support for its friends.
Participating ships will participate in naval drills alongside others, and the exercise will be attended by fleets from France, Japan, Ireland, Canada, and the USA. One of the most prominent aspects of these drills is the RIMPAC maneuver, the world's largest maritime exercise and an operation run by the US Navy. This maneuver is performed on a biannual basis off the coast of Hawaii. There has been a dramatic worsening of the political situation in the Indo-Pacific area during the last three years, and as a result, conflict is being feared more frequently. Meanwhile, places like Gaza and Ukraine are repeatedly bombed every day.
