The exploration company which I optioned a block of claims to in AZ uses a tile saw in the field for VG gold ID in ore. The cut face, like you demonstrated in the video, is easier to ID visible gold in samples. These tile sawsa are a bit cheaper than a demo saw and use less water too for desert areas. Thanks for all the work you put into videos, I've been rewatching the smelting and assaying ones in order to learn how to do them myself since 1 batch of fire assays costs as much as all the equipment and supplies I'd need to do my own. Your vids on this stuff are the best because you test out so many different things, always with an eye for maximizing efficiency. Nice work man!
Like the show, we have a guy in a unknown location in Black Canyon Az who cuts the Quartz in slabs large enough to make counter tops. Those slabs go for bottom dallor around 5000 for a 3ft by 4ft slab with gold .
I have watched a number of your videos the past few years Jason and I have to say that this one is right up there as one of the best. Love how you showed and described the different minerals in the slabs you cut and showed how to flash the particles of gold in the slab.
I enjoy this video..you are cutting a rock with a special cutter and use of useful magnifying len to watch the grains and minerals in the rock..it is a great video..i am still learning..thank you.God bless
I appreciate your time! I just leased my first to mines in AZ. Have zero clue about mining but, I work good under pressure! Lol. I wanted to do something that I have never done before! Being from an areas in Texas that gold is the farthest thing away from, this is going to be fun. Lol
Hi there my name is Bruce I am in Fresno California right next to gold country LOL. Been watching your videos for a little while but just subscribed this is probably one of my favorites. Showing the precious metals under the microscope with something nobody else does especially pointing out what all the minerals are. I find that very informative because when I'm out in these motherlode mountains I really would like to know what I'm looking at and cutting the Rocks open and looking into the glass is freaking awesome thank you
Great video Jason. I have been cutting rocks and gold ore for many years and have never thought of using a demo saw to do it. That's definitely a tool worth considering to get an analysis in the field of what's going on with your specimens and ore. Great idea. I have only used lapidary saws, which are expensive and it usually means you have to always bring your specimens to cut home to your saw. I believe using a lapidary saw on smaller pieces is a better way to go because the cuts are much nicer and won't take too much work to get the saw marks out. A flat lap is a great tool to clean up your cut faces and with gold ore, you only need to polish to about 200 grit to clean up the cut face and get the gold to smear and "pop". The saw itself will accentuate the size of the gold encountered, but a quick hit with the flat lap will do even more. Done hundreds of them. Also, I would avoid using a sealer on any specimens. It will mimic a polish, but in my opinion is a cheesy shortcut.
Oh... I DO have some samples of this stuff! It was used as patio gravel 50 years ago! It's all streaked with sulfides and very metallic pyrites that don't oxidize, even after half a century of weathering!
As a kid I was interested in geology. I had a rock & mineral collection that included Pyrite, Quartz, Amethyst, and Galena. I haven't collected in many many years, but, this channel brings back a lot of nostalgic feelings. I'm really loving the content.
Im 62 and i would try to be a geologist. It facinated me. Of course other more important things like making a living took precedence. ! Now im rediscover my childhood wonders cause i can ! Jason is such a wonderful jewl himself! Thank you Jason. Your video's mean more tban you may know!
As Far As I'm Concerned, ALL These New Gizmos Are Something, When I Was Growing-Up Ya Had To Wait Till HS To Even Have Access To A Micro-Scope & Then It Was To Be Applied To ONLY What Was Being Taught In Science Class....I'd Be Doing EXACTLY What You're Doing & Making Those Numbers Work....Keep On Keeping On....
Just brought some that look like those home. And now I'm breaking out the tile saw. I'll check back. Wish me luck. Thanks for the great advice and video.
Thank you very much for that piece of information. It was so important for me ,because I suspect that each and every day I pass by a piece of gold some where .
I don't know why, but gold is more evident with sunlight or candlelight as opposed to light from a filament or led light. If everything is held with no movement, your phone can take clear pictures that can be expanded to expose the gold. I wish I could include a picture with this comment to demonstrate my point.
This is very useful information that really helps in identification of rocks containing precious gold thanks for the research and compilation of the info. David
If people are like me and they prospect for gold they have rock samples all over their computer bench , lol , i'm surrounded in rock samples , i think it is similar to doing core samples , so probably a good idea for quick identifications of minerals , but sure there's a market out there for specimens , and i have even bought some myself . Great vid Jason ,very interesting , i just love rocks !!!! ha ha ha .
That would make for some nice tiles. Sliced gold bearing ore !!! Especially if the gold really stands out. I'm planning if I ever find a lode source too get core samples and polish them up
I like to manually break my quarts finds and enjoy picking up all the pieces after...I'm no professional but I have net 280. Ounces of found gold in last 3 years at my weekends and hobby days ...I just don't give up and take every spec I see ....don't give up friends
This mineral identification was so helpful. Maybe it would get long, but I’d have liked to see the close up of the outside of the rock minerals, too, and how they differ. Very cool.
Jason... Ive just subscribed... your videos are great. I detect in areas around the Victorian goldfields in Australia. My prospecting is limited to about one field trip per week using a Minelab gpx 6000. I seek small specimens usually (alluvial) on the surface around old workings. I believe that understanding the geological aspect is a also a big help. Your videos do exactly that. Thank you for the heads-up and great insight.
Good job! I sure enjoy your videos, so nice to see this side of the small mining world. Also, your knowledge and info sharing is a great refresher for a wannabe miner like me. I love it all! Much appreciated.
What would be cool is if someone cut rocks up in slabs. Then they could line them up and pour Clear epoxy over them making really cool looking tables. I’ve seen people do it with wood. I bet people would pay for a table of gold rock ore.
Yeah your information is useful & has suggestions for better uses & applications. One thing I was thinking while watching is that we need to make sure to check for All of the different types of metals we find in samples. Some metals have beneficial uses for other things that production companies could make better uses of if a lot of it or enough is found. Then there are the metals that are currently paying well, and as well or much better than gold.
That is awesome being able to see raw gold right inside the rock geometry with a microscope! Thank you for posting this valuable info! Have a big thumbs up and may God bless you & your family.
I find Big huge viens of this while drilling all over ;) . You can actually pick the gold out of the wash returns while drilling 😂 and coring big peices of quartz and granite
Crazy , I have a football sized white quartz littered with gold flakes and silvery stuff . Vinegar , magnet , then took some off an edge and again no question . But what's the silvery looking stuff , it kinda coats itself over the quartz just like gold . I've got some nice rocks cuz I see things in rocks and I'm not a big rock hound , it's overwhelming for me cuz I see more than gold . Like everyone focuses on the gold but it's like I see what it is .
Thanks Jason, interesting to identify the minerals that gold is associated with in a lode or ore body. I think the GREY white mineral may be Arsenopyrite.
Hey Jason - great video! Now I want to get a demo saw and take it down to the claim! Trying to figure best way to hook up a hose to it though; guess a pump! Thanks again!!

@@hardrockuniversity7283 for sure bro. Mine is made by Carson... I picked one up for like 15 bucks on Amazon. So it won't break the bank, like the one I really want. Lol.

Best video I have seen on the topic and excellent visuals as well.
it beat going to school to study very educational for sure Jason
what a great method to see the minerals in a rock sample in the field , well worth doing . a great visual assay of samples..
Those silvery minerals are likely some type of telluride or selenide, or maybe some type of sulphosalt
on slabs that are really intresting i use a clear poly resin on one side to sow the intresting patterns, and leave the other side unfinished

Those silver bits could be silver or platinum. I noticed they flashed like the gold did. If it is a sulfide, its most likely galena (lead sulfide).
