Just to clarify, if it helps! When you were confused about Selene/Lanfear having seen Rand channel in the previous episode, men and women can't see each other's weaves (the colorful wisps). The only ones who can see Aes Sedai weaves are other female channelers. Same with the men. All you can see is the effects of it. So in this episode, for example, Lanfear couldn't see the orange streaks that went from Rand to the Fade, but she could see the effects of it, when it caught fire. Also the scene, about her having seen it before, was a dream anyway.
@@bidossessi It was also established, to some extent, at the end of S1 when Moiraine and Rand were going to the Eye and she told him that she couldn't teach him to channel... IIRC, she said something like it would be like a bird teaching a fish to fly, or something like that.
Every single reader will have gotten excited at seeing 'hopper' :) . I always enjoy seeing non-reader reactions and this was a good one!. Loved the reaction to the lanfear reveal :)
I would imagine that it's a (potential) problem for the daughter-heir to leave because she is the daughter-heir. How would the Aes Sedai explain her sudden disappearance to her (royal) family? I don't know if I'd say Liandrin is my favorite character, but she's usually the most interesting character whenever she's on the screen. Kate Fleetwood is amazing.
You are exactly right. Liandrin had planned to do whatever it is she's doing to the kids Moiraine brought in. But the daughter heir is something different all together. I mean I don't know how the people who have only watched the show would know this, because the show has done a terrible job of world building. But Andor is the strongest nation on the continent. She, Elayne, is the daughter heir to the throne of the most powerful nation. So having her disappear would be a lot harder to explain then a couple of nobodies from the middle of nowhere. But one of the major changes I have liked thus far is Liandrin. She is really only kind of like her book character, and in this show she is much more interesting, in large part because of he talent of the actress playing her.
@@briane8627 he didn't. They made it clear in the scene because while she healed everyone, she also is channeling in massive bursts and uncontrollably, so she also produced a bunch of bright lights and air (her hair goes floating up). That's what he saw
Moiraine’s sister said it’s been decades not six decades. Also Min was in season 1. Moiraine took Rand and the rest to a place where Min was the bartender and asked some questions to see if she was able to see who the Dragon was etc. Then Rand came back later and they had a chat with Min. Min told him about seeing his dad and him as a baby in one of her visions - her very first vision. It was in 1x07. I am not sure that you remember her from that. That guy is not the Dark One. He’s Dark One’s top guy. A Forsaken. Like Lanfear (Selene). His name is Ishamael though.
Women and men cannot see each other’s weaves. So Lanfear/Selene could not see Rand channeling. Obviously she can see the resulting effect though like the fire etc. Also, i think Rand was probably dreaming when he started channeling while he was lying on top of her and when he woke up, it resulted in him burning the shack he was sleeping in down. “They are cute” LMAO. Imagine how traumatized Rand will be after what happened with Selene. Poor Rand. He’s gonna suffer through a lot while trying to accomplish a lot….
She looked that old, but she must have been older. She was an accepted and near the shawl at least 20 years ago. And most accepted don't get the shawl at 18.
If you recall, back last season, when Alanna and Moraine were chatting while restraining Logain, Alanna comments how they can't see a man's weave. Easy to forget from however long ago, and it's sort of a throw away at the time, but it's become quite important now because it means the Aes Sedai in particular will have a hard time recognizing what Rand is. Otherwise Moraine would have been able to identify Rand immediately if you think about it, he did channel in front of her. So men can see men, which is why Logain could see Rand, and women can see women, but no cross gender weave-seeing.
yep they did the same in season one after Nyneave healed everyone in season one ... literally no reaction .... so annoying ... yep as it was something we see every day
Liandrin just betrayed Nynaeve... and it was planned in advance. So, any logical genuine reaction she might have had would have been boring. Of course, she could have faked being delighted at Nynaeve's return...
Yeah, I wish we could see Liandrins reaction too. Previous episode Rand was channeling but Selene/Lanfear can't see his weaves. In this episide she saw the Fade being killed. The weaves are there for viewers to see
One bit of confusion in continuity on my part, and I might simply have misinterpreted the scene from E3. I thought that Liandrin had returned Nanaeve's Aes Sedai/Accepted ring to the molten gold in the "magic altar". And here we have her wearing it when Eqwene brings her honeycakes. I'm hoping I simply overlooked something, but this looks like an editorial booboo. Hope I'm wrong, and someone will point out why. As someone mentioned below, the reaction to the reveal that "Selene" is Lanfear is priceless.
The returning of the ring is symbolic--the rings don't hold any power, they're just jewelry; Aes Sedai badges. Presumably they have several rings already made and waiting for whenever a novice is raised to accepted, so they would've just given her a different one. Honestly I think it just wasn't worth the screen time.
@@jonurbanovsky5438 In the books, the rings had symbolism relating (obscurely) to the bearer. I agree that it was not worth the screen time to resolve, but my confusion is why they spent time on melting the old ring. If they mean so little in the series, why melt it instead of simply holding on for the next candidate? Sorry, the scene in E3 with the easy unexplained scene in E4 still strikes me as odd.
@@kendavis8046You're misremembering. All Aes Sedai rings in the books are identical. They all wear the same exact ring. The reason for melting it is probably just Liandrin's wanting to mourn or think about things. The same thing could be asked about melting Kerene's ring. I think this is just a ceremonial thing they do in the show when an Accepted or Aes Sedai dies.
I mean they skip everyones reaction to Nynaeve being alive and present, the ring is very minor (if emblematic) compared to that. Its just a ring they probably have hundreds sitting waiting for accepted.
could you please not use the last scene of the episode as a thumbnail for your video. not everybody has time to watch it as soon as it comes out, sometimes it takes a few days to find a moment to catch up. it's not very nice.
They couldnt really "react" to Nynaeve coming out for several reasons... they kinda rushed her in first off which would not look good if they talked about it too much, and if Nynaeve got questioned by the brown ajah forever and ever that doesn't help the story.... and... what happens in the arches is private, which is stated a lot and for good reason... so they're kinda stuck and can't really ask her about it anyway. (My 2 cents)
Just so you know the showrunners said this is more of an interpretation than an adaptation, whatever that means, so I'd recommend you read the books if you haven't already. They are much better.
Maybe cuz i read the books that i have a different way of looking at things. But i cannot say i specifically cared about Liandrin’s reaction to Ny being alive etc. I imagine most people did not particularly feel pissed by not seeing that as in the grand scheme of things it is not important. But i understand you cuz the show made it into a thing…. Debatable how necessary that was at the cost of taking away the screen time to tell some other more important stuff. So from my perspective i don’t care if i don’t see too much about Liandrin or Alanna or her warders or even Moiraine and Lan etc. They are not unimportant characters. But your fave character being Liandrin of all people says something about how the writers are telling this story that I am not very happy about. She has more screen time or like more meaty dialogues than the Dragon or any of the other main characters except a couple of them probably. So of course the audience cares more about Liandrin. But at the cost of main characters. Which is a very bizarre way to tell this story. Especially considering that they have such limited time to tell it that they cannot even include Opening Credits in episodes now.
I read the books, but I also really wanted to see the reactions. Probably because show Nyneeave isn't very interesting to me; at that point, the reactions were the only thing relating to her that I was interested with. I really didn't like the way the arches were done. Show Alanna, on the other hand, is probably the most interesting character in the series for me. She's obviously very different from the books, but I don't mind that much. If she ends up doing the same thing as in the books, we might know the motivations behind that better. As for Liandrin, the thing that worries me is that they might be replacing E. with her. But they're very different, playing different roles, having different associations etc. I don't know how Liandrin can fulfill E.'s role, as well as her own.

When Rand channeled and burned down the inn, I think he was dreaming. That's why he wakes up without his coat and Selene is gone. Great reaction!!
