I'm a 70 year old widow. My granddaughter is in college and her 2011 Chevy Cruze kept having this tappen to her car. Your video was so informative, I feel that I could fix her car by myself. Now I'm going to take it to a repair shop. I'll order the sensors and thermostat and advise them to also clean the blectrical plug-ins. I'm wishing I could be younger so I could tix this thing by myself with the help of your video. Thanks so much for sharing.
I had that message in the cluster as of yesterday. I’m ordering my parts and will do the replacements as needed. I knew you would have a comprehensive video on this. Awesome channel !!! The very best !!! 👍🏻
I just tackled the replacement of the engine temperature sensor on a 2015 Cruze following these instructions and it fixed my problem; At least for now! Really great video and awesome UA-cam channel.
As an original owner of a 2012 1.4L Cruze I love this content. Keep it coming. 1. There's a white plastic air bleeder on the radiator tank on the passenger side. With the engine off, coolant tank full you can easily bleed the air fairly fast without the fill funnel. If you don't have one. 2. I'm not a huge fan of Dorman parts, but they do make the o-ring for the lower radiator hose to thermostat. Spray Silicone works great on these connections. 3. I'd like to see how bad the replacement of the lower water pump hose is with the bumper cover on. I think you'll get it off, but I'd be interested in seeing how it's done. The upper hose of the drivers side is a real "bear" to remove from the radiator side. 4. Any codes with this before you started, besides what was just on the interior display? I thought the temp sensors would have set codes if failed. There's also a very weird fan control for the cooling fan speed on these cars. If the car can't see all the various fan speeds it goes into limp mode. The radiator fan speed resistor I believe might be part of the fan assembly. Maybe by now you can buy it separately. I think South Main Auto did a video on the radiator fan speed controller and ended up removing the entire fan. I've seen your engine/trans video on this car, so pulling a bumper cover is probably a no big thing for you. But kind of sucks to access the fan. Thanks for the content.
I had this happen a few times where it turned off and threw a code while driving and the temp gauge dropped to Cold and after a bit the needle went to normal temp did this for about a week. Didn't worry about it to much but I started looking around under the hood to change out sensors and found that the wire that ran along the fan to the radiator sensor unhooked from the fan and then I realized that wiring was hitting the catalytic converter that gets hot. So if you have this issue check the wiring and make sure it didn't come out. My issue was solved.
Great video man !! Fixed my problem. I was not aware that there were 2 sensors the one by the engine was my problem .. thanks again for such a detailed video!!
Sometimes it's just a fluke. Use a scantool to erase and see if it comes back on before going through this process. Codes or no codes, a scantool will erase this.
I have a 2014 & I am experiencing the same problem smh now my car dont wanna turn over & im not sure what is the problem it was cranking when i tried to restart it & now its grinding when im tryna to start it
I've had the same thing happen to my car in the UK, done the same. Changed the thermostat and sensors but my dial will not move. I haven't disconnecting the battery to see if it reconfigures yet.
I need some expert advice …I already replaced my head gasket and the larger temp gauge last year…my engine has started over heating again. My radiator hose popped off because my water outlet broke off into my radiator hose and I replaced the entire outlet (which had a new temp gauge on it) I also have checked and there is no more coolant leaks..oil and fluids are good but I have no clue what needs to be fixed so I can drive again…the codes that come up when I scan my car say I’m having issues with my cylinder 3 in my engine…I know I need a new engine at this point but I just need a “bandaid” solution to fix my car until it’s payed off at the end of the year…unfortunately Chevy just notified me that my engine is recalled but my car’s mileage is outside of their coverage, never buy a Chevy cruse!!!
The cheapest route would most likely be cylinder head replacement or rebuild. Even at that you would be looking at 700 with gaskets , so not really cheap. However considering the 1.4l engines now appear to be made of gold , its the better option as long as the block is okay. Best of luck on whatever you decide and thanks for the feedback.
@@Jaywhite305 replace all of it. Upgrade the thermostat and the water outlet with aluminum piece and do your radiator sensor and fan speed regulator. Also the reservoir
Hey mate, I have some questions about your fn4a-el swap between a mazda3 and 6 you did some videos on 3 years ago if you don'tmind helping me out with some info? What's the best way to contact you?
Question, I’ve notice on another video that they sell 2 different types of sensors but you’re the only UA-camr who is working on a 1.8L like mines. Do you think I need to buy two of the sensors u linked in ur description, or buy the two different sensors? I’m planning to change both sensors
They are basically the exact same. I was looking into this a while back and believe I came to the same conclusion. I appreciate the feedback and thanks for watching.
Great video. Need to do this on my son's car. Instructions were perfect. Have you had any issues with your gas gauge ??? Mine at empty all the time. Changed the float and level sensor assembly and still nothing. Any ideas ?
I would first check wires , maybe a connection or wire issue. Next thing would be the guage cluster. Possible fuse but unlikely if all other gauges are working. Definitely could be gas guage or bad cluster. Thanks for watching.
@@s33therfan Thanks for the reply. I kept digging about after replacing the the sender. I saw evidence of mice activity under the battery tray. I lifted it up and found a section of wires chewed up. Will try to clean it up and re attach the broken strands. Hoping it will be that 🤞🤞
Super awesome video man, i cant do anything to my car at work but i could inquire more info from knowledgeable people. I have the same problem, temp gauge staying on C and the AC off error when i turn the car on. I also noticed that no matter how far im driving when i get out of the car under the hood is LOUD like a fan noise, i didnt know if that was any different of a situation than what you have here. Any knowlege would greatly be appriciated, i like fixing things myself
My 2016 Cruze had an engine light a couple years ago and scan tool said it was thermostat. I put new thermostat on and it fixed. Did you have engine light on along with AC OFF DUE TO HIGH TEMP?
Took my wife to her clinic this morning around 4am I was going around 65 on the highway when the message came on I turned on my ac to check it was ice cold but the temperature gauge was all the way down saying the engine is cold I turned the heater at max and released the hood just to let airflow better and for it to stop it from overheating faster you think it might be the sensor just got this car 2 weeks ago heard it’s a bad car never had one just Hyundais😅
My 2014 malibu is having same issue, all components have been replaced, when you try to turn on AC you can hear a grind nose in dash😮 temp hand doesn't climb, but the fan will run minutes after you turn car off😢
My 2016 Cruze is doing that right now. It's 30°F outside (heat on, no a/c) and my temp guage keeps going from normal to almost the red zone, then back to normal over & over very quickly. The fan runs, even stays on after I shut the car off. Was low on coolant, so added a mix and it stayed normal for about 20 minutes, then the temp started fluctuating wildly again and right before I pulled into my parents driveway (my stepfather has his own shop) the a/c off due to high engine temp warning came on, but it went away after about 60 seconds....
I would perform a simple block test before changing any parts just to rule a headgasket issue out. Autozone has a loaner tool . Thanks for the feedback.
i have a 2012 cruze 1.4l turbo and im having an overheating issue. Water outlet broke so i replaced it . Then stated doing it again. I replaced the thermostat still doing it. The temp gauge will go from normal to hot and then drop all the way to cold and heater stops working. any ideas? water pump sensor or head gasket? oil looks fine no murky discoloration. I am trading it off just need to get it there lol
It could be trapped air and sometimes it is difficult to remove without driving it around a bit. Once driven and cooled off remove the overflow cap and any air . Keep the coolant topped. If the heater still is not working and it wants to overheat it may be a headgasket. I would try to remove the air first. If the temp gauge is working and both big coolant hoses are warm or hot the thermostat should be opening up properly. Hope this helps and I appreciate the feedback.
Was your fan clutch constantly on, while the issue was there? I’ve got the “ac off” warning and my temperature gauge doesn’t move, but my fan clutch is constantly on as well, assuming that’s a precaution since the computer doesn’t know the engine temp?
Can you drive the car with this message displaying on the dash " ac off high engine due temp" I'm worried if I am messing something up especially because I live in Michigan and is really cold
Yes , as far as it running on the cold side I have never had any issues. I drove a grand prix like that for years just because it was not worth replacing just because it ran on the cool side. Great question and thanks for the feedback.

I would suspect the wiring or connectors at this point. Possibly bad aftermarket part also . I know on mine disconnecting the battery would buy a little time with the ac by resetting the computer. It usually would get me a day or so before throwing the code. If the temp sensors are good, thermostat & sensor good, wires & connectors good then there is no reason it should be throwing the code and shutting the ac off. I have the same problem now, 2014 Chevy Cruz. But my coolant is not flowing to the radiator. My heat gauge would be on the line before half then move to the line pass the half line a little then back to the line before the half. Fan run loud and still run after car is off. But no leaks
UPDATE: Entering the hot months of summer and ac is still working flawlessly, no more shutting off . Thanks for watching.
