How to improve your Car Audio Electrical System
    RXC2D
The Rockville RXC2D is a 2 Farad/12 Volt Stiffening capacitor which features a Lucite encapsulated LED Digital Voltage Meter display and logic control circuitry. The RXC2D assures undistorted performance from your high powered car amplifier system. The IC logic controlled circuitry provides for smooth fast charging and discharging and includes negative polarity protection against miss-wiring. Though the RXC2D is a 12 Volt capacitor, it features 24 volt "surge capacity" and will supply surge voltage when your amplifier booms with that extraordinary SPL Bass note.
The array of 4 blue LED's in the top of the capacitor meter charging and discharging by their flashing sequence. The LED Digital Voltage Meter displays the current electrical system voltage so that you can constantly monitor your electrical system.
Also included are clear Lucite unbreakable mounting brackets for sturdy support, stainless steel screws for assembly of the brackets, allen wrench for connecting of lug terminals (not included) to the capacitor terminals and a resistor for initial, safe charging of the capacitor with instructions.
    Features:
Rockville RXC2D 2 Farad Stiffening Power Capacitor
2 Farad/12 Volt Stiffening Capacitor with 24 Volt Surge Capacity
Lucite Encapsulated Display and Logic Circuitry.
    Red LED Digital Voltage Display.
Blue Led Flashing Charge and Discharge Metering.
IC Controlled circuitry with negative polarity built-in protection.
    Dimensions: 13" long x 3.75" wide x 7" high
Includes Clear Lucite Unbreakable Mounting Brackets, hardware and charging resistor with instructions
    RXC4D
Today’s car audio amplifiers need huge amounts of current. Often a vehicle’s electrical system is unable to provide it. With your car’s air conditioning running, the factory electrical charging system may already be operating at only 70% of full capacity. When a bass note hits or when playing your system very loudly, there may not be enough electrical energy to power your amplification system properly causing your music to sound strained and distorted. Rockville capacitors are designed to store enough electrical current and to release this energy extremely fast due to their superior design and low internal resistance. In addition, as quick as your amplifier needs a new current surge, your Rockville capacitor will provide it. This continuous cycle of power discharge and recharge guarantees flawless bass playback.
    Features:
    Rockville RXC4D 4 Farad Capacitor
4 Farad/12 Volt Stiffening Capacitor with 24 Volt Surge Capacity
Lucite Encapsulated Display and Logic Circuitry.
    Red LED Digital Voltage Display.
Blue Led Flashing Charge and Discharge Metering.
IC Controlled circuitry with negative polarity built-in protection.
    Dimensions: 13" long x 3.75" wide x 7" high
Includes Clear Lucite Unbreakable Mounting Brackets, hardware and charging resistor with instructions

It would be good to have something between 2 and 4 Farads. It also wont hurt to have more than you need when it comes to farads. But I would say you would need at least 2 farads with that system

I have 2 fosgate p2 12s(400w rms each) running @1ohm on a pioneer amp that is 1600w peak and 800w rms @1ohm. not a huge sound system, but my lights dim. it's in a 2013 vw Passat s which still has the stock battery with the alternator at 140amps. my lights dim when my bass is hitting, and when I use a volt meter on my battery, volts drop from 13.8-13.9 to 12.5-12.9. what's the easiest way to fix this? don't want to hurt my car.

    • @PURESOUND4

No, it just stores energy like a battery. The main difference is that the cap can discharge energy more quickly than a typical battery, providing the amp with more "instant power" for musical peaks.

    • @toysareforboys1
      @toysareforboys1 9 років тому +2

Gabriel Jimenez How many farads did you install? How much is the maximum current draw of your amplifier(s)? I usually recommend 1 farad per 1 amp of current draw (in my case I'm drawing 400 amps so I have a 500 farad cap bank). If you have bone stock electrical (stock battery, stock alternator, stock wiring, no big 3, etc.) then maybe make it 2 farads or 3 farads per 1 amp draw. Let me know if you need more help :)

Capacitors don't magically add current to a circuit. It's a trade off, your headlight may stop dimming but your sub amp is getting a less clean supply. After that big bass note happens and the capacitor has discharged, it needs to recharge adding more load on your alternator and voltage dropping for the sub amp, causing distortion that could blow your sub. You're better off upgrading the main power and ground cables, aka Big 3 and or upgrading your alternator. That may seem like an expensive route, but if you've spent $1000+ on your amp and sub(s), forking out to do the power right and prolong the life of your equipment is better in the long run.
