Everything about this scene is perfect. The irony of it all with what he’s saying compared to what we’re seeing, the sideways camera angle on Walt’s face, the way they slowly introduce Heisenberg. So perfect.
Back in 2008 when this aired, this was the first scene of the show I ever watched. I was flipping channels and landed on AMC, and I didn't realize what I was watching until the title sequence. I intended to watch the series from the beginning because I liked Mad Men and wanted to give the new AMC show a-go too, but I ended up missing the first few episodes and it just got away from me. This show was a well-kept secret back then. It wouldn't be until 2010 that I started bingeing on it. Wish I didn't wait so long.
I remember seeing this scene and thinking it was a flash-forward from at least a season down the line, maybe more. Finding out it was from that same episode was insane.
I just started Breaking Bad and I was shocked at how good this opening was. It is an absurdly good show. Update: I just finished Breaking Bad in tears. It is without a doubt the best show ever made.
+Arch Stanton Wait, what about Gus? Was Tuco just not aware of Gus's whole operation? That would be odd seeing as how Tuco's uncle and cousins are well aware of Gus.
When I first saw this intro I was so excited because I thought it was a glimpse of things to come rather than happening just yet but the fact that it was just this episode's ending blew me away and it was only in its first season
I loved the unique style of each season. The first utilized intercutting between two complete polar opposites of what was being discussed or portrayed. This is progressed from the intro of Hank giving his "new players in town" speech, with him describing Walt as this dangerous criminal mastermind, all the while we see a dopey looking Walt brushing his teeth in his underwear. I think THIS specific intercut intro is made all the more epic due to that buildup and progression into something more serious and intense. The editing and framing is BEAUTIFUL, and done expertly to the point it's seamless, leaving us to be easily submersed into Walt's transformation into Heisenberg.

Yeah, the first season uses a lot of the comedy style from Malcolm in the Middle, showing absurd and sad realistic humor, I love it.
This is where the series really kicked off. That's the brilliance of the first season, it set the pace and solidified the tone Breaking Bad would take for the other 4 seasons. I know of some people who stopped watching after episode 2 or 3 and boy did they make a mistake.
I’m glad Walt came to his senses and decided not to take another life. I’m glad he still has the decency within him to prevent himself from killing another human being so he can live a peaceful life with his family.
I will never forget this intro. Seeing a sinister figure walking away from a trail of destruction while Walt kept insisting "No more bloodshed", I was on the edge of my seat. I had to know who this mysterious new villain was. When I realised it was Walt, I knew that Breaking Bad was destined to become the best show I would ever watch.
How about Kafkaesque? It's particularly effective when you're actually watching it on TV, as you'll initially think it's just another commercial. Then they mention Los Pollos Hermanos, and you're like, wait a sec...
Anyone know where the tune at 0:55 to 1:03 is from? Is it an original belonging to the series? Because it sounds like something Paul Ruskay would cook up.
Imagine watching this scene for the first time again with no promotion, teasers or clips and seeing Bryan Cranston walking away from that building with the shaved head and chaotic music blasting over it, you would've been like "holy s**t, what's gonna happen next!?"
I got super lucky. I knew nothing about the show other than "guy gets cancer and cooks meth to cover expenses" and got to binge it with my friend after it finished airing without spoilers or even commercials. Every scene was fresh, and this one was absolutely amazing.
By the time I saw this episode, Breaking Bad was already on my top 10 best shows ever watched. It was exactly this intro scene that made me realise it was about to become my number 1 of all times. This was literally Hisenberg's intro.
Jaw dropping. The whole episode really. What is it that makes this show so... Special? When I watch it... I don't feel like I'm watching a television, I feel like I am watching Life. Breaking Bad is a great achievement in television.
Me and family just to watch Malcolm in the Middle back in the day and Hal (Cranston) was the best character so when we binged this season for the first time we all burst out laughing.
After seeing all the ads showing Walt being bald, I first saw this and went like, "YES! He's finally bald!"
Me too!!!! I said the same thing
Me too, and it was still a shock.

Dangodemic HAHA SAME

the best intro was when the 3 mexican guys were singing about heisenberg
Yes
Ballad of heisenberg
"Ese compa ya esta muerto, nomás no le han avisadooo" Talking about foreshadowing (translate it)
Nah best intro was the los pollos Hermanos commercial leading up to showing us how they package the meth
Totally!
The scene that got me hooked to Breaking Bad forever.
That scene hooked me up on Breaking bad more than that fine meth

Breaking Bad has too many mindblowing openings. Hard to pick a best.
what about the one with the three mexican guys singing about heisenberg
@@JAYANESTHETIC that, the Los pollos Hermanos one, and this are the 3 best intro scenes imo

Favorite intro was Walt coming back to his house all trashed and looking like something out of an urban exploration video.

My personal favorite was when Walt popped his trunk to show a fucking machine gun in there

gotta love this show !

This still gives me goosebumps till this day, everything about this scene is FUCKING PERFECT
I think one of the best opening scenes was the one with the bear in the pool, especially the one where you see the body bags in the driveway.
Mountain Drew what was the meaning of the bear?
Bobby Greene Gus
Bobby Greene it was foreshadowing the plane crash I think. The episodes that the bear appears in are “Seven-Thirty-Seven” “Down” “Over” “ABQ”.
