I once lived in the country side, and a feral cat was scenting around my property. This really stunk and having 4 cats of my own at the time did not want another. So it took me some time to get the feral cat to trust me, as soon as he did, in a box he went, and I dropped him off about 3 miles from home. Next day he was back, so in the box again 10 miles from home dropped him off. Four days latter he was back. He was a old tuff looking big cat with big bones, and I realised he must know the area around here like the back of his paw, there was no getting rid of him. So in the box he went again, but this time to the vet for a snip, the vet commented on how big boned he was, and when he gave him a injection said even his skin is tuff. Five years latter he fell asleep on a sun lounger and never woke up. But for that five years he was the most loving cat I've ever had, and he demanded fuss all the time, I do miss him now.

When I was a teen, I had a brown tabby named Tiger. He was an inside/outside cat. We had to attach a good sized bell to his collar to scare away potential prey. One day, while in a friend’s car more than 1/2 mile away from home, I heard Tiger’s bell. I looked over and there he was. I called his name and he looked like a kid who just got caught where he shouldn’t be. Anyway, Tiger took off. We drove to my home and who’s there walking up the street? Tiger! He got there almost as fast as us. We drove, he ran!! It was then I learned how smart cats are.

After about two months of feeding a cat that was apparently dumped at small college campus where I worked, I stupidly carried it in a cardboard box to a vet's office about 2 miles away to get it spayed. When I got out of the car with the box, the cat, of course, punched her way out of it and ran off. I called and called, but the cat seemed to be gone for good. About a week later, she showed up back at the campus. The only ways to get back involved roundabout routes--no easy trail to follow. Whether it's a sensitivity to the earth's magnetic field or some other "super power," cats seem to be capable of utilizing a remarkable homing instinct.

U re a very bad person. First of all if it is a male cat u should no neuter it after 1 year of age - it will fall ill and die. Second of u do not have a proper carrier u have no business to transport animals - that cat could have been mauled by dogs or hit by a car. U want to do good - take that cat home. Otherwise get lost

Shilo, male baby cat, had never been away since arriving in our home after having been found on a major street in our city. We moved about 10 miles from where he grew up. After 3 days,he found his
way back to our old dwelling , would not stay at our new home, after 3 trips back to old place, so we left him there and the new family adopted him.🌸

We moved 40 miles away and I was concerned that our cat might want to escape and head back to the old house. So we ordered a Trac gps unit that weighs less than an ounce, affixes to a collar and sends signals to my mobile phone that maps out his travels away from home. It’s great. He’s travelled as far as half a mile away but always comes back. I think he knows we’re tracking him from the vibrations the unit sends out. My family thinks I’m reading into things but the cat’s pretty intuitive already so…

And still so many cats get lost. I think cats on the countryside, find their ways home better than citycats. Because on the countryside they have more smells than in the city.
I myself live in a town with a population about 35.000 people. And the first thing I got my cats used to, was a walk around the block (the street I'am living in and a bit of some neighbouring streets. There is not much traffic here, so they are relatively save.
So they can find their way home... and so they know their borders. All my 6 cats during those years, always returned. Even when they were very ill or wounded... yes sometimes they hided for one or two days, and then decided to come home again... so I would take them to the vets.
I walk my cats without a leash, because cars usually drive here about 10 - 15 miles an hour. And my cats can sniff to all trees, flowers and even parked cars. And yes sometimes neighbour's cats walked with us, feeling protected by walking in a group.
So I repeat; still so many cats get lost: but you can walk about the block too. If there is heavy traffic, with a leash... or if you are living in a town like me, you can consider walking without a leash.

Cleocatra might be lazing on the back of a couch in the living room and I can noisily move things around the kitchen counter such as silverware and etc.

If I so much as GENTLY [place a can of fancy feast on the counter, she is RIGHT THERE.

    And SCENT!!
She can be in another room seemingly dozing.

It's me, the bot-bitcher again. These videos are informative, but i still take exception to text-to-talk narration. I think what I don't like is the idea that somebody thinks they're fooling viewers into thinking there was a narrator paid to narrate. But a human narrator would never pronounce fourteen like "fourTEEN". The narration-by-bot is definitely getting better, though, I will admit that. But descriptive text is GOOD for you. People ought to have a little eye exercise and READ captions, or *read* educating text along the bottom. It's good for you; makes your brain incorporate more circuits to associate with the video.

It's 3 weeks since one of my ~ 1 yrs old never returned home, all mine 5 indoor/outdoor cats everyday wander a while after dinner. Unlike others the lost one often preferred to be single or sleepy or may be depressed, made peculiar meow seeking mate that he could not find around. Now I'm left to my imagination wondering why he never returned - whether he was depressed or just went out of adventure & lost or chased by some dog or killed in road accident somewhere, or may be god given instinct to wander away
