    Of course you can make this anyway you like. Simply use vanilla, however the Fiore di Sicilia does make it extra delicious!

    The heavy cream yummy. That must be delicious. Great texture for cookies. You can even make it thicker. Great idea

  • @noreenskitchenchannel
    @noreenskitchenchannel  11 років тому +5

    If you can't get the Fiore, just use a bit of both orange and vanilla extracts and if you have it, a splash of rosewater. As for the color, I would mix the glaze first a bit thicker than you want it and then add the color to the desired intensity.

    If you try this without sifting the powdered sugar well enough, will it cause the icing to taste bitter? I tried this same thing before, but didn't really sift the powdered too well. The icing tasted very bitter and gross. Wasn't the sweet-tasting icing that donuts are glazed with.

    Hi Noreen I love this recipe and I was wondering if this
    glaze would work for my rolled sugar cookies or not? I
    don't really want to use royal icing due to the raw egg
    whites so I was wondering if this would work as a
    substitute for the raw egg whites? I just want to thank
    you in advance for your quick response. it is very
    much appreciated. I hope that you and your family are
    having a wonderful holiday season. Looking forward to
    hearing back from you.

    • @noreenskitchenchannel
      @noreenskitchenchannel  7 років тому

      Jill Green no this is not a substitute for royal icing at all. This will make the sugar cookies go very soft. Royal icing will not do that. There is no need to worry about the egg whites in royal icing due to the sugar which actually cook the egg whites in a sense. You can always use pasteurized egg whites from the grocery store if you're worried about salmonella.

    Mine does not turn out tasting bitter. My guess is that you have an aversion to the taste that the corn starch is adding to the mix. Confectioners sugar has corn starch in it. You may want to try making your own 10x sugar by running regular sugar through the blender until it is very powdery. Then make the icing. Otherwise I would try using some organic confectioners sugar. I can't think of one reason that you are experiencing a bitter taste other than that.

    • @noreenskitchenchannel
      @noreenskitchenchannel  9 років тому

      You don't have to use the Fiore Di Sciliia. Just leave it out. It is a combination of orange oil and vanilla flower extract. There is no substitute for rum. Rum has a unique flavor. The only option would be to use rum extract, however extracts are made with alcohol.

    • @noreenskitchenchannel
      @noreenskitchenchannel  9 років тому +1

      No you have to use confectioner sugar for this glaze. Using granulated sugar will render a syrup and not a glaze. Confectioner sugar is granulated sugar that has been ground very fine and has corn starch added to it it is very different from just plain granulated sugar. This recipe requires The exact ingredients.
